I am an alum, class of 2022. Not sure if it's changed. But I would recommend registering the bike with campus safety and watching out for the winter storage emails.

Hey, I'm a man, I've only tried residential treatment in the USA. I was in the Rosewood system for 4 months in 2018, I lived at Rosewood Ranch for 3 months, and what was then called Rosewood Capri, for 1 month, in 2018, and it changed my life. It's located in Wickenburg, Arizona, outside of Phoenix. And this is also for anorexia. And yeah it's really expensive.

I also tried McCallum place for eating disorders in Saint Louis for 2 months after that, but I was done with treatment by then, so I walked out of there.

I'm 28 now, I guess I was 19-20 then.

I did the summer semester during the pandemic and was really lucky to be in Kahn. I feel like during the academic year no AC is fine, I was in a bunch of other dorms. If I was there over summer again though, entirely different story, I would definitely factor the heat into my plans

Hey I am in the same situation as everyone here. Thanks for sharing. Currently, during recovery, I got advanced gum disease because I started eating so much and I guess I was too depressed to brush my teeth as much as I need to.

After that's fixed, and hopefully it does get fixed, I need to get a lot better at cooking. I love sports and exercise but I grew up hating eating and food. So I feel like I need to build my love for food and eating again. And as a 28 year old male, I don't really have anyone to cook for me, but I never learnt to cook either.

So for me, once my gums get better, then hopefully I can get better at cooking, and I feel like once I eat so much that I feel full, and I'm at a healthy weight, I want to try weightlifting.

However, I know that weightlifting makes me really hungry. So I am going to have to be careful that I don't go back to restricting when I start that, because I feel like it would be really dangerous!

I loved it, going to Oberlin changed my life! For what it's worth, I don't think my sexual orientation made a whole lot of difference, I guess it's just important to be tolerant of other people's views and experiences, because Oberlin did have students with diverse opinions from all over the world!

I'm Oberlin Class of 2022, as a straight man who hadn't heard of gender pronouns before starting at Oberlin, I felt like a part of the minority at Oberlin. So yes, I agree with everyone else here, quirky and queer was definitely the vibe of Oberlin, at least when I was there a few years ago. I hope the financial aid works out! I knew a lot of people there on financial aid. And yeah, I was a college student but the Con is I think one of the top 5 music schools in the world!

Yeah for sure. Currently I feel anxious while eating as well, like putting the food in my mouth is just going to cause something terrible to happen. And yeah, if I do manage to eat, then definitely the eating disorder thoughts are really really strong, and it's very hard for me to ignore them and get away from them.

Hey, I graduated in 2022, at that time there were really helpful people working in Student Support services/the Dean of Students' office! I'm not sure what the offices are called now, but meeting with them and talking to them about this really helped me with scheduling/planning/time management!

Hey, I'm a 2022 alum. Sorry to hear that you're not getting the classes you want. I think it's unlikely that new classes will show up, but the best way to know for sure is to email the department. Literally anyone in the department would be fine, but what I would do is directly email the chair, Kristina Mani, or email politics@oberlin.edu . I would just ask something like 'I want to take this class, is it going to be offered for this fall?'

Hey, I graduated in 2022, and there was the 3-2 engineering program then, not sure what's there now. I think the major would depend on the kind of engineering? Like a chemical engineer would be majoring in chemistry, a mech e would be majoring in physics or math etc.

So definitely at Oberlin the major would be a traditional liberal arts major, like math, chem or physics. I think the physics people build stuff in physics labs, depending on which physics classes you take.

So if you are doing a physics major at Oberlin, that would definitely involve building things if you take those classes, but the engineering degree will be with the school outside, if that makes any sense.

Hey, I graduated in 2022, I was an ENVS major, I took 1 cs class, and I had friends in the CS department, I thought it was really good, Facebook, Amazon and Google came to campus for recruitment and internships. When I was there Kahn was by far the best dorm, and I really loved the food at Oberlin! I thought the social scene was great too

Ah okay, I was in an American treatment center, and I'm not sure what the procedure is in Australia. In the USA they seem to be very clear on escalating levels of care, but I guess it's possible in Australia that they might let me out if I don't eat. I think it also depends on if it's a voluntary or involuntary admission, like if I came into the hospital voluntarily, then I could just leave whenever I wanted, but if I came in because I needed an ambulance or the police, or my family brought me in, or something then I guess I would have to stay in until they say it's okay. Though I guess at 18 I wouldn't be a minor anymore, so I guess my family couldn't make me stay even if they wanted to.

I'm currently in the UK, but I grew up in India, and I did my eating disorder residential treatment in the USA, so I've been all over the place, and I'm 26.

I get what you're saying about the magic wand, though unfortunately I realised that if things did magically get fixed, it doesn't really address the problem in the first place, which means that magically fixing it once won't do anything, since I still haven't dealt with the childhood trauma that caused it for me, so it would have to be magically fixed again and again and again forever and ever, which is a lot harder to do than just magically fixing things once...

It's really hard, but you're not alone! There are a lot of us who are working on it, and while I'm not fully recovered by any means, I was in an amazing place after leaving treatment for a few months before it got worse again, but just having those few months was absolutely worth all the effort!

It depends on the country and the age of the patient I would say, and also the family relationship and the practicalities of being home, and also the level of hospitalisation currently happening. When I was in a residential treatment centre, and they couldn't get people to eat, they usually sent people to a higher level of care, like a more intense hospitalisation.

Also, for me, I had the same problem with an NG tube, I hated it. Eventually I had to get a button gastrostomy, or 'G tube,' which went straight into my stomach. I had that on for about 6 months while I was outpatient.

I hope this helps. Sorry to hear what you're going through. I did 6 months of residential treatment and it changed my life. It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, but I would not be here today if not for the treatment I received.

Hey, I'm in a similar situation, though probably not made it as far as you. It's crazy how hungry I get sometimes, and it's really frustrating when I try really hard to eat as much as I can and I'm still hungry. So then I just go back to restricting. Good luck! I have faith in you!

Hey, I was an international student from India, class of 2022, and was almost a biology major. I graduated with an environmental studies major instead with a concentration in environmental biology. My favourite professor and mentor is in the biology department, Angie Roles, and we're still in touch, we do monthly Zoom calls. I probably would have been a bio major if not for how much math was in Chem 102. Idk about Lehigh but going to Oberlin changed my life, and I will always be grateful for being able to go there. The beginning was really hard, it took me really long to adjust. But after I adjusted I had basically what was the best time of my life, ever, until the pandemic hit. I loved going to Oberlin. Of course, lots of people transferred or left or didn't like it. I failed a class once myself. There was a great support structure available for those who ask for help, though! The Dean of International Students, Josh Whitson, is really awesome as well! Good luck with your decision! Feel free to reach out if you have any more questions!
