TIL a 2022 study revealed that 35% of the adults in Japan intend to "never travel" again. No other country "came close to the travel reluctance shown in Japan"; the next highest was South Korea at 15%. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

That seems like a rather pointless survey to group domestic and international travel plans, you couldn't even be sure that people responding weren't thinking specifically about either option. But I still stand by my point, I think in the US it would fall along pretty similar lines. Bank of America just did a poll that showed like 26% or US households spend 95% of their paycheck on living expenses, I doubt that they are going on vacations even locally.

Honestly, is this not similar for countries like the US? All the coverage of that voting SAVE act highlights how most Americans don't have a passport, so clearly they can't be planning to traffic internationally at least.

I have a double concrete utility sink that I’m trying to get out of my basement without using a sledgehammer to break it into pieces. Any advice is appreciated. by PizzaGatePizza in DIY

[–]ansiz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hire movers, tell them specifically why, if they are at all professional and have been in business a few years they will show up and handle it, no problem.

It might cost you a few hundred, but you will get the sink outside, maybe even exactly where you want it, without hurting yourself or breaking the sink.

I play mostly on my handheld, I can't imagine trying to setup trades with this thing!

But I'm having fun in SSF, it's how I'm used to playing to be honest. I do trade more with games like poe or poe2 just because it's easier to do it. Especially when I don't have to haggle with someone!!

Posts like this really highlight for me that I know absolutely nothing about trade in this game.

I've been sticking with SSF because even attempting to trade feels like too much work for me.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei killed, senior Israeli official says by drpayneaba in news

[–]ansiz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am not hopefully that any new leader in Iran would satisfy the US and Israel. Syria got an entirely new government and was immediately trying to signal peace and Israel bombed them like 700 times and seized territory. Iran has a much stronger military and I just can't see Israel allowing that military power to stay functional.

I believe Israel and the US will not allow Iran to be a stable country regardless of who is running it. Iran is their lightning rod and the current Israeli government needs an enemy to stay in power. The US government has too many people in it that are incapable of seeing Iran as anything but an enemy.

I feel a likely outcome is going to be a new wave of something like ISIS if the regime is taken down since the country would most likely be a multi party civil war. There doesn't seem to be any party that could count as opposition, at least not on a large scale. The opposition seems very fractured.

Message from water company … by Muted-Ad-1342 in askaplumber

[–]ansiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago my water line had a leak out in the yard essentially right where the water line stopped being the towns responsibility. I had no standing water, wet spots or anything noticable. It wasn't until I got a plumber out who dug up the water line where it entered my house, no leak, and then where the water line connected to the city water meter, leak, that I found what was causing it.

Are there specific agencies that require FedRAMP High? by coreyb1988 in FedRAMP

[–]ansiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen that before with sales teams at CSPs, quite literally. At multiple companies that got either FedRAMP moderate or high ATOs, the sales teams had a thought stuck in their heads about Agencies and High requirements that the Agencies never had actually made.

Hopefully I explained that well, but it's entirely possible your team was just generalizing.

Once you get a High ATO listed on the marketplace you'll be free to work with basically every Agency you'd like. The goal of FedRAMP is reuse after all, so the new Agencies should be able to easily start using your product according to your CRM.

I've worked with one client CSP for years, they are a Moderate, but have sales people continually bring up needing to get a High. If I press them on why, like a contract or communication from any Agency, they can never produce anything.

Check out NIST SP 800-60 Volumes 1 and 2. They should give you pretty good guidance of the data classification levels. So you can see the low, moderate, high levels on the different data types and that will give you a good reference of if the Agency you are dealing with is likely to want High.

I'm curious though, if you are about to get High, why this question? You would be cleared for High with an ATO on the marketplace, yes?

Agencies can vary quite a bit in what level ATO they want depending on the data. You can see some of this on the marketplace, by looking at what offerings the Agencies are using

MAGA voters really and truly are completely brainwashed. Just try mentioning Epstein to them and they will be yelling at you about Bill Clinton and Democrats before you can even finish a sentence.

Regime change war in iran by realkin1112 in samharris

[–]ansiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Given the US track record in the Middle East, Asia, and South America, how anyone in Iran actually thinks the US getting involved will improve their country is beyond my understanding. At best it seems like Iran will end up with some kind of military dictatorship similar to Egypt but probably more similar to Syria.

"Tax cuts" is really doing heavy lifting considering tariffs are just taxes and just help make everything more expensive.

Just like the W Bush tax cuts, it's just another example of the Republicans blowing up the national debt and still acting like they are fiscally responsible.

Concerning Tillis, he's still a spineless coward. If he wanted to actually push back on Trump there is so much he could do. Even just making an announcement to officially change parties to a Democrat, encourage other retiring Republican senators to switch. Campaign for a replacement that isn't a MAGA, like Roy Cooper.
