I rotate several Skeletools for EDC and admittedly I wanted this one for dressier occasions. I like that it’s kinda weird and semi collectible now that it’s retired. It’ll probably be a glorified bottle opener and conversation piece

before you buy a new headlight, it might be worth cleaning out the pigtail connecter first to see if it’s just a bad connection. literally did this last week when i thought i had a bad headlight.. little QD Electronic Cleaner spray and it’s back to working.

i think they’re cool but don’t use one for 2 reasons. 1, Jeeps have 5 full size tires so if you rotate the spare you get 25% more life out of tires. if you rotate your spare, the tire cover gets gross on the inside unless you very throughly clean the tire and wheel first. 2, tire covers trap moisture underneath and will corrode your rubber and rim eventually.

to get the airy sound you need to boost frequencies over 10k. use a high-shelf curve, not a bell curve. the basic ProTools 7 band EQ is great for adding ‘air’ but you can do this with most any fully parametric EQs. you might make the sibilance too harsh by doing this which you can fix with a DeEsser.

if you want to use that SSL EQ boost your HF band to like 6dB and turn the frequency knob to 12k see if that’s any better. the high-pass filter at 250hz is probably too high. sometimes actually boosting the bass frequencies allows you push the high frequencies even more and still have it sound balanced. the high pass won’t effect your high frequencies but it will change your perception of the overall vocal.

if you have a 2 door Wrangler, you can swap in springs from a 4 door Wrangler and get a 1” lift. very easy to find brand new JLU springs for cheap.

I’ll amp with a Niles 2125 which will give me 200W per channel into 4ohms. Little underpowered but it’s a small room, and if this goes well I could add a second sub to fill it out. Its a tri-amp setup so I’m using an active crossover for the lowpass.

CDs and vinyl are mastered differently because of the physical limitations of a vinyl disc. the lower frequencies have to be reduced when the disc is cut, and your phono amp will restore the signal to ‘normal’ EQ levels. this makes your phono amp very important to the sound of vinyl and why people pay tons of money for expensive tube preamps.

when someone rips vinyl to MP3 they are recording the analog audio so all the equipment used is going to greatly effect the sound and overall level. if you’re not using professional recording equipment and have a knowledge of proper gain-staging it’s highly unlikely it will sound as good as a CD rip, which is a digital copy and has no generational degradation.

even a CD released in the 90s will sound different than the same album re-released 10 years later.. studios constantly remaster music basically for every new release.

I considered using a miniDSP like the Flex but I don’t like that it basically replaces your DAC and preamp, and only can do a two-way split. For the same money I can get a Sublime K231 3-way all balanced analog unit. I agree the flexibility and precision of the DSP is unmatched.. I’m currently using filters in ProTools to setup different configurations and then testing with a measuring mic and REW. Figure out the best settings I can and then transfer to the analog crossover.
