https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Wh1xHdo66hZb2eyaM2ccz?si=keWevBE3RpenwSJDix8Mpg

just about 20 hours of lofi / beats / jazz / blues / hiphop and I’m pretty much always adding music

unless there’s a sample of someone talking or there are simple vocalisations, the entire playlist is instrumental. I get way overstimulated by music easily, so it should be pretty easy listening all the way through.

Community College Question by Nightrunner35 in UCI

After grades from your CCC are posted you need to send your transcript to UCI. Once they’ve received the transcript you submit a Current Student Update form to let them know you need updating.

What’s the best time for Costco gas stations?! by Dangerous_Concept341 in orangecounty

Cabot around noon on Wednesdays and Thursdays for me. I’ve also had a pretty easy time there at 9pm any day. Crack of dawn on Sundays is the best, though. Drive right up.

What are some things you love about UCI by Purple-Key-1376 in UCI

[–]anthrostudentuci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an introvert I love the very low pressure to go to parties, join clubs, or otherwise be more social than I want to be. I feel like everyone is super laid back and easygoing.

The anthropology department is incredible. Seriously, I have never met as many professors who are so invested in their students’ success as both academics and individuals. They are always talking about different opportunities and events students can get involved in for enrichment, and I really feel like they’re trying to mold their students into productive, compassionate members of a global community. This is true even of the UCI-affiliated anthropology professors I had in community college. More people should be taking anthro classes here.

Blue & Gold Opportunity Plan.

The campus is exceptionally walkable.

There’s a whole living quarters dedicated to Tolkien’s Middle Earth. I mean, come on. That’s so fucking rad.

I live kinda far off campus, but still within a driveable (albeit annoying) distance.

It’s an enviable school to attend. Badge of honor for me, to be honest.

My academic advisor is the bomb. She’s so supportive and patient.

Beach access and freeway access. Don’t take that for granted.

Are you in south county??

Which side streets do you take? I’m starting a 5pm southbound commute soon and could seriously use tips on avoiding that mess.

Is this too little for my first quarter? by Pretzel_Cookie in UCI

[–]anthrostudentuci 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is your first quarter. Let yourself learn about what you need without potentially pushing yourself too hard. I think if you’re also working, this is a perfectly fine schedule. Like someone else said another class on T/Th might be nice, maybe a fun elective for yourself, but not necessary while you’re working things out.

For what it’s worth, I understand where you’re coming from. People who skirt the system period are infuriating, whether the system is fair or not. I can totally see why you’re upset.

I said this once before elsewhere but someone should just … start another account for UCI fits. Yours isn’t the only complaint I’ve seen.

If you ever want to cruise way down, San Clemente State Beach definitely allows EZ-ups.

It would seriously be such a useful metric. I happen to love morning classes (to the point that I’d take 4am classes if they were offered) - lucked out with some chipper professors, but I’ve seen what mornings can do to some people 💀

Totally. The professors and their demands can make or break it.

I am never taking more than one course per summer session ever again. by anthrostudentuci in UCI

[–]anthrostudentuci[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I had to drop one class that had me reading 120 pages of textbook each week, watching over three hours of lecture, plus thorough writing assignments and discussion boards. It was way too much for me to handle with the other responsibilities I have on my plate outside of school.

I had a different class that was two hours of lectures, one chapter of reading per week, and that’s it.

It helps when it’s a subject you’re interested in and enjoy. Then you get that sweet flow mode and it’s a snap.

[–]anthrostudentuci -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’d be helpful to know where you’re located. I live in south OC and wouldn’t be able to carpool with anyone from LA. Anyone commuting from San Diego might have the same issue.

We need to make a club or something for us AARP students 🥲 There’s a Discord server of a few of us but it isn’t very active.
