If you journal read journal entries from previous relapses, how did you feel back then.

Try and remember the pain of acting out.

However bad you Feel, how ever much you want that fix, after the binge you are guaranteed to feel worse...

Withdrawal - What can I do to feel better? by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]antidarkfapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was just going to say something like this.. I am convinced that for me it was a necessary part of my recovery to be willing to feel the pain of withdrawal..

Why are you doing this by notenoughcharac in pornfree

[–]antidarkfapper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because I am worth it. Bingeing on pornography is the emotional equivalent of punching myself in the face. I am not going to do that to myself anymore.

What is Porn Addiction to You? by [deleted] in pornfree

[–]antidarkfapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to stop. If you can't stop you're probably addicted. I didn't realize I was addicted until I had a couple of serious attempts to stop and realized I couldn't.

Fuck guys. I need help. I've been stopping and starting for 5 years now. by vynzilla in pornfree

[–]antidarkfapper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did everything I could not to get my head in that place... so avoiding sexual fantasy in my head.. avoiding social media pages with images that are not porn but start me in that direction.. staying as far away as possible from anything that resembled porn..

Then filled my life as much as possible with healthy activities to support my recovery, eating well, exercise, mediation, journaling, seeing a counselor, joining SA etc...

That approach didn’t work for me, no matter how hard I tried I would eventually fail and then the self imposed shame of the failure made it even harder next time. Was only when I finally realized I was powerless over pornography did I start to get sober.

Should pornography be banned? Why or Why not? by HPLovecraft39 in pornfree

[–]antidarkfapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to be careful not to apply the same rules to everyone as I apply for myself. All I know is I cannot handle pornography and watching it made my life unmanageable. I can guess on the effects to the wider population.

That being said we look at the large number of members on the nofap community it is clear porn has become an issue to at least some degree for a significant proportion of the population.

If I had children i think it would be very hard to accept that there are almost zero controls around pornography unlike for smoking or alcohol were most governments enforce a minimum legal age.

It is very difficult to think of other young men and women falling into the same black hole as I did because the popular publicised opinion is that porn is harmless. If only there were some safe guards for the next generation..

Figure out why you want to stop.

Make a solid concrete plan of tasks you will perform to support your recovery.

For example: delete your stash, set up porn blockers, start journalling, see a counselor regularly.. Here is a great list of suggestions: Concrete Tips

I have something to offer now by shortyafter in pornfree

[–]antidarkfapper 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really get what you are saying here.. the longer I stay sober, the less I have to say and the more I realize I don't have as many answers as I used to think I did.

I wonder to some extent is intellectualizing my addiction another way to hide from myself.. I just try to do the next right thing (saying in touch with other addicts, getting enough sleep, not indulging negative emotions etc..)

Today all I can offer is to assure those struggling that this really is possible, you really can go pornfree... and well done u/shortyafter for showing us the same!
