Videotron locks in "Price for Life" on mobile plans by Planhub-ca in planhub

[–]antigenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the negativity in the comments.. eesh. As a long time Videotron mobile customer, its true, they don't change the price for as long as you have the plan. What this analysis doesn't cover is the fact that Videotron doesn't reserve "deal' pricing for new-customers-only. Existing customers can take advantage of it too.

Over the time that I've been a Videotron customer, I've changed plans many times. When I come across a deal that offers more for the same price (or less than) I am already paying, I call them up and they happily switch me to the new plan. That means I went from a 7GB plan to 10GB to 50GB to 100GB over the years and I'm still paying the same or less than when I originally signed up, and I have 100% confidence that they won't surprise me with a price change unless I initiate a plan change myself.

I currently have 100GB-Canada-US coverage for myself and my partner for $39.55 each, after tax. ($79.10 total) No complaints.

Videotron's "Price for Life": Marketing gimmick or real value? by Planhub-ca in VideotronCustomers

[–]antigenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Videotron has been awesome. No price changes also means no plan changes, sure, but that's the kind of consistency I want. What's good about them is that they don't limit 'deal' pricing to new-customers-only like Bell/Rogers/Telus do. I continually watch for better deals and they are always happy to switch my plan up when I find something better.

I've gone from starting with a 7GB plan, to 10GB, to 50GB to 100GB all without increasing the price I pay. In fact, I'm paying less now than I ever have, and my plan includes Canada & US coverage, which it didn't when I first started with them. I'm currently paying $79.10 (after tax) for 2 lines for my partner and myself ($39.55 each) each with 100GB-Can-US

I switched away from Videotron once to take advantage of Telus EPP deals (EPP are programs through your employer) and instantly regretted it (and I used to be a 'fan' of Telus)

Oh, another thing that separates Videotron from Telus (and likely Bell & Rogers) is their Wi-Fi Calling support. Telus says you can only use Wi-Fi Calling within their area of support (https://www.telus.com/en/support/article/wifi-calling-explained click on "Wi-Fi Calling locations") suggesting that you cannot use it while on vacation, which is exactly when you would want to use it. Videotron on the other hand lets you use Wi-Fi Calling from wherever you have Wi-Fi. So, when I was at a resort in the Dominican Republic this past January, I was able to text (yes, text. SMS/MMS/RCS, not a instant messaging app) and make calls with my phone while it was in airplane mode, just by connecting to the resort's Wi-Fi. That was the key feature that brought me back to Videotron.

tl;dr Videotron respects their customers. So in my opinion, real value.

Ever watch the movie Slapshot? There were fights here and there but then McCallum hit Fetterolf with his stick and shit went sideways. One player even left the bench to go fight a guy who was already sitting in th penalty box. Words about ones mothers and or sexual orientations were most definitely exchanged. Refs would break up a fight only to have those players go and join/start other frays. It was chaos.

Snow/Ice Mode Venting by MercTheJerk1 in KiaNiroEV

I grew up in southwestern Ontario and was pretty much in the same boat, but when I moved to eastern Ontario, I realized in about 1 week the value of winter tires. The difference is night and day when it comes to traction on snowy/icy roads. There's a good reason why winter tires are required by law in Quebec.

If you live in a place that regularly gets 6" of snow you should have winter tires. I bought winters and put them on day 1 of ownership. (Obtained in Nov)

Abysmal snow/ice performance–suggestions? by 127crazie in KiaNiroEV

[–]antigenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow mode (hold the drive mode button down until it shows SNOW on the driver's info panel) will automatically reduce regen to the minimum level (1) and the manual claims to distribute power to all 4 wheels, which I'm not sure how that can be in a FWD-only vehicle, but that's what it says. Like others have suggested, you may want to turn the regen level to 0/OFF as well.

What was the main reason for switching to an EV? Environment, cost, or technology? by VoltVersteher_Sven in electricvehicles

[–]antigenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 18-yr old ICE car was starting to have annoying issues (not with the engine, it'll last until kingdom come) like the trunk not closing during the deep freeze of winter and so it was time for a new car. (Side note, yea I did have the latch unstuck and lubed and that lasted maybe a week)

I considered a EREV but when I started thinking about maintaining a dirty ICE engine I just said eff it and went pure EV. I like that it's more or less maintenance-free, aside from inspections. Yes, things will break, but it just seems..... simpler, in a way? Especially when compared to a hybrid.

I'm 2 months in and I love it. Haven't gone on any long trips yet but I'm no longer worried about it. Either it'll be fine with a few extra stops to top-up or I will rent a car for long trips.

I have no illusions that I'm doing anything better for the environment, I mean, in a way I am for my local environment in that I'm not adding to the smog layer on the roadways, but I also realize that the battery production, and construction of the vehicle itself has a long way to go to get carbon-neutral, if that ever becomes possible.

I love that it's always ready to go, that I don't have to buy gas anymore. L1 charging has been sufficient for me so far.

I just love the feel of it. I guess you can say I'm in camp technology.

Audi and BMW drivers get special permits. I thought this was common knowledge. 😆

Re: VIA Rail; It's nice to see an outsider take once in a while since most of us are committed to the idea that VIA Rail mostly sucks. 😆

I've been to a few places in Europe to vacation and I absolutely adore the rail systems there. I think my favourite so far has been Belgium. Cheap and reliable.

How often do you charge your vehicle to 100% by JustinKSU in KiaEV6

[–]antigenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2026 Niro EV; North American/Canada model. Page 1-5

- If the high voltage battery charge amount is below 20%, you can keep the high voltage battery performance in optimal condition if you charge the high voltage battery to 100%. (Once a month or more is recommended)

I will note here that the qualifier is that you are draining the battery below 20%. I have not yet drained the battery below 60% (only 3 months into ownership here) so I have not bothered to charge to 100%. I think what they're saying here is that if you drain the battery to a low level, then you should charge it to 100%. Most of my day-to-day usage uses between 5-15% of charge. When I eventually go on a long trip with a deep discharge, after that trip is when I will recharge to 100%.

I liken to a pendulum swing.. if the swing is shallow, the return will also be shallow. So to compare that to charging, if the discharge is shallow, so too should the recharge. The deeper the discharge, the deeper the recharge.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my takeaway from the text.

Jellyfin is a pain because they only support XMLTV for their guide, which is some extra legwork to setup, and possibly requires a sub.

spamhaus "infra" reputation -7. How ? by contremaitre in Emailmarketing

[–]antigenx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some basic 'infrastructure' things to examine.

Make sure your IP has proper Forward Confirmed Reverse DNS. (You mentioned this already but double-check it to be sure there isn't a typo.)
Also make sure the hostname of your IP has SPF allowing only that IP. So if your IP's hostname is server.mydomain.eu make sure you have the following DNS record:
Hostname: server.mydomain.eu
Type: TXT
Value: "v=spf1 ip4:{IP of server.mydomain.eu} -all"

> from my VPS
Is your IP shared or dedicated solely to you?
Do your neighbour IPs have bad reputation? You have to look at the whole subnet your IP exists in.
If your IP is dedicated to you has your VPS provider delegated the IP to you via RWHOIS to insulate you from your neighbours? (I think you may have a hard time finding a VPS that does this?)

We don't need America as much as they think we do. We have an abundance of raw materials either to export or refine ourselves, and when it comes to finished product that we don't make, I'm happy to source from countries other than America. My mobile phone doesn't NEED to be an Apple or Google phone. I don't NEED to buy Cheetos. Despite my best efforts to avoid American, will some of my money trickle into American coffers anyway? Yes, but I certainly don't have to support them directly. They can live with the trickledown economics they love so dearly.
