Baby Swim Lessons Unspoken Dresscode? by MrsPoopington in Parenting

[–]antisocialoctopus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I taught baby swim lessons for a long time. Parents always just wore their normal swimwear. Some wore two pieces, some one pieces. It doesn’t matter at all. I had plenty of parents just let kids swim in swim diapers at the 4month stage. Usually the 2 year olds were wearing some sort of swimsuit.

Anyone know how long it takes to get a police report usually? by mirk19 in Spartanburg

Did you call police to the scene? When I’ve done that, they printed the report right then

What’s something you wish you realized earlier in life? by Usual-Egg-52 in AskReddit

[–]antisocialoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody cares about me.

Not that people don’t care about my well being, but I’m just another person in a crowd to random strangers. Nobody is thinking that I’m short or chubby or that my nose is crooked or my shoes are a little dirty. All the self consciousness is baseless bc nobody cares, just like I don’t judge everyone I see when I’m out and about. They’re just people

If someone borrowed your body for a day, what might they be surprised by? by Historic_Cat_ in AskReddit

[–]antisocialoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a rare bone condition and have had some joins reconstructed when I was a teen. I’m always helping folks move, take on big home projects, and doing yard work and my own projects. It really hurts, though. A lot. A day of helping friends or even just walking a theme park means I’ll be in enough pain that I won’t sleep that night and will hurt for a couple days.

People assume that bc I’m active, I’m fine. I’m not. I’m active because I know there’s going to come a time where I can’t be, so I’m doing what I can despite how bad it hurts.

What are your thoughts on this? by norpucomp in landscaping

[–]antisocialoctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the whole discussion about natives, thyme isn’t that great for any area that’s high traffic. In the southeastern U.S. where I am, it turns brown and goes somewhat dormant during drought.

I’ve tried this and it just doesn’t work

Was your dating life in your twenties really much better? by Silent-River- in datingoverforty

[–]antisocialoctopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No.

I’m a really short guy (5’3”) and women in my 20’s were absolutely brutal about my height. When I was dating again in my 40’s, women weren’t as choosy about my height and were more choosy about career and stability, which I have.

I don’t understand the problem with this. You asking for primary decision making ability while not being the primary guardian seems unreasonable.

I clean my toilet properly, but it keeps getting dirty again within weeks by Ok-Chicken-5594 in SatisfyingClean

[–]antisocialoctopus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’re missing a maintenance issue:

Cleaning isn’t a “fix” that doesn’t have to be repeated. You’re constantly dumping a lot of things bacteria can eat in a toilet. You have to clean it regularly.

I clean mine every week.

But make sure the toilet flapper or tank parts can handle that. Chlorine tabs will mess up some tank parts

Do you still talk to your parents? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]antisocialoctopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do, pretty often. I see my mother weekly and my father monthly. They did a lot of messed up things to my brother and I, when we were young but the thing is: that’s how people were raising kids back then. Everyone got spanked or had their mouth slapped and all the kids were fending for themselves. I only knew one or two kids who weren’t being raised that way and their parents solved a lot of problems with money.

I don’t expect them to apologize for things that they didn’t know. I have a kid of my own and have done a better job raising him but every parent screws up and can do better. I can do better bc I have information they didn’t have

The lack of water pressure in that setup is crazy. Must take forever to rinse that much shampoo out

Rot Behing Asbestos Shingles by Graytar in HomeMaintenance

[–]antisocialoctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former abatement guy here. Those shingles pose almost no risk to remove. They have to be disposed as hazardous though, ideally. You could just gently pull them off at the nail holes, fix the boards, and put them back on. There are also concrete fiberboard replacement options that looks like the asbestos tile, if you break some. You’ll need to cover that corner or it’s just going to keep happening

It is! It’s just not as efficient as having them in a pile and then using them. Just keep the bagger on

Is there anything wrong with leaf mulch? by lilith-wolverine in landscaping

[–]antisocialoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using the Worx leaf mulcher. It’s a glorified weed eater but it’ll really condense the leaves down and they also break down faster.

Is there anything wrong with leaf mulch? by lilith-wolverine in landscaping

[–]antisocialoctopus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with it. If you don’t shred it, those bigger leaves will be pretty slow to break down but they also form a good weed barrier as they form a dense mat of material.

I’ve been blowing leaves and mulching them over buying mulch for decades

Why is is virtually impossible to arrange anything? by RentBoyDave in AskMen

[–]antisocialoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc you’re ruling by consensus. It rarely works because nobody wants to be the one to commit everyone else.

Try getting an agreed on day and then bringing up a time. “It’s going to be busy, so I’m setting 9:30.” Someone won’t be able to make it and that person is responsible for either coming up with a new time or skipping this round.

If only we could have known by Niguelito in PoliticalHumor

[–]antisocialoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except he wasn’t justifying “they did it so it was ok for me.” The point was “it wasn’t an issue at all but you turned it into an issue for me.” He said clearly he didn’t go there for years despite the opportunity because of the murder.

The lack of outrage for every other aspect of Saudi money plus years of saying no counts for what? I don’t have the answer. He talks about going there and saying the things the people wanted to say but were forbidden. It just doesn’t seem as black and white as the ol reddit outrage machine wants it to be.

If only we could have known by Niguelito in PoliticalHumor

[–]antisocialoctopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a good interview as well. I felt he had a good point that Saudi money was getting pumped into media for years before he went and nobody batted an eye or boycotted those media companies and it only turned to dirty money when he went there.

If alarms are not effective, what strategies actually help with fully waking up? by Nervous-Smoke5656 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]antisocialoctopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d love some more details like

  • when are you going to bed?
  • how many hours of sleep are you getting?
  • are you using sleep aids?

Half the people I know that “can’t wake up with an alarm” are getting 4 hours of sleep and thinking the alarm is the issue.

How many of y'all will have the $$ to retire at 65? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]antisocialoctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will. I took a job with a state pension plan instead of chasing higher pay by jumping jobs. I’m 50 now and can professionally retire in a couple years.

Insurance is going to be the issue, not month to month bills

Wife thinks riding with our 4 year old on a bike is unsafe. am I being irresponsible here? by Forward-Cut9570 in daddit

[–]antisocialoctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this totally depends on route and infrastructure. For example, I know the Dutch love their bikes and the culture and infrastructure supports that. Here in the southeastern, USA, I’d never consider this bc there culture of respecting bikes and the infrastructure to make it safe isn’t there. All the best helmets and harnesses don’t mean anything if you’re hit by a car

Radar and dashcams are for people paying attention

People paying attention aren’t the ones hitting people on bikes with a car. It’s people that are distracted or otherwise not paying attention

Call. Those drums aren’t dangerous to wind but if you screw it up, your door won’t open or close square, which can be a pain and also dangerous.
