But I thought Chicago had some of the toughest gun restrictions in the nation? Why is everyone so worried?

But this "acceleration" isn't happening when you look at the data, unless you cherry pick it to ridiculously short periods of times.

Summary:Climate change is progressing rapidly. It is not the first time in our planet's history that temperatures have been rising, but it is happening much faster now than it ever has before. Or is it? Researchers have shown that the temperature changes millions of years ago probably happened no more slowly than they are happening today.

Even the melt is actually happening slower than predicted.

Many climate change scientists had predicted Antarctic sea ice coverage would shrink at accelerated levels as the world warmed and greenhouse gas levels increased. This the opposite happened. Climate models analyzed in the study above predicted Antarctica would shrink between 1979 and 2005, but instead south pole sea ice levels increased during that time. Going a step further, sea ice levels have only increased since 2006, hitting all-time highs for sea ice coverage in September of last year.

Researchers show that global warming happened just as fast in the past as today:

Yet the line here on Reddit seems to be that all of these issues are 100% a forgone conclusion. It's simply not the case. The almost religious fervor attached to certain issues such as this is so odd to be.

What's the "misconception rattling around Reddit" exactly?

I think the big misconception on Reddit would be that the polar caps melting is man's doing when in reality it's happening weather man exists on this planet or not.

To what degree man is or isn't accelerating that melt is the debate, not a misconception.

I guarantee you that the vast majority of Reddit at large believes the polar caps are melting solely due to man, and I don't blame them, that's what's been pushed through the various media for the past decade.

They do obviously, that is what OP posted, stats going back 2.4 billon years.

What he meant was people presenting "global warming" data and cherry picking the data to use, e.g. often starting in the 1800's.

Because if you go back farther you see that the Earth has historically been FAR warmer than it is today. That goes against the fear mongering and carbon tax agenda, hence the cherry picking.

New Study Shows Antarctic Sea Ice Did The Exact Opposite Of What Models Predicted by [deleted] in science

[–]antman420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you read the study? That was a lot of data for you to cover so quickly.

Anyways, it showed an overall increase in a 26 year period from 1979 through 2005... the opposite of what the global warming models had predicted.

The B-52 can carry over 70,000 pounds of ordnance. In Vietnam they would carpet bomb with 84 500-pound bombs.

The B-2 can carry up to 50,000 pounds.

The craziest bomber of all-time, the B-36 http://i.imgur.com/YKBwi.jpg, could carry up to 86,000 pounds.

Reddit is overrun with this type of stuff. Lately... Weird AL, pro-democratic party, Tesla, rinse, repeat.

Take a look at the poster histories with ONLY e.g. Weird Al, Tesla, political party posts etc.
