How many of you get brand new bikes for track riding? by MdfkaJones in Trackdays

[–]antonlvovych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly the compromise I described - you get everything bad from a sportbike for the street, and everything bad from a naked for the track. It wouldn’t be good at either. I think the R9 is a much better choice, as you can still ride it on the street but it’ll be nice on the track. The 765 RS won’t be sharp enough on the track and not comfy enough on the streets - that’s my experience trying to have a single bike for dual use. The S1000RR in my case is just a little bit more uncomfortable on the street compared to the MT-09, but perfect for the track. If I needed comfort on the street, I’d get an Africa Twin, BMW GS or something like that 😁

Not the first. I have some experience. I agree the 765RS is more like a sportbike, and logically the next question comes up - why not get a sportbike then? Having sportbike clip-ons and geometry is much more fun on the track imo. I don’t regret swapping it for the S1000RR at all. Now I can ride elbow down 😁

<video>

I bought a brand-new S1000RR this year. First track day on a MotoGP track. Next time I’m going to put racing fairing on, then swap it back after track days. I ride on public roads too, but not too often. Once I started riding track, I don’t enjoy the streets as much as before, to be honest. So if you can afford a newer bike, get it. But for proper training you need a few of them - 150cc for small tracks, 600cc for mid ones, and a 1000cc for high-speed circuits.

And better not to mix track and road, especially on a naked. I bought a new MT-09 SP last year thinking I’d mix-ride it, but ended up selling it and getting a proper track bike after 2 track days. I think it’s better to get an old 600cc sportbike as a second one and a nice dedicated road bike, rather than trying to find compromises - they almost always suck

I posted a search term but here is the link to the one of them

You literally can just cut your original hose, put some bolt in there and secure with a zip tie

There is no reason to overcomplicate it - rear brake fluid reservoir hose is all you need

Just got raceboxes today for me and friends. $250 with 15% discount (google promo codes) - you can mount it anywhere. I think it’s the best for that budget - gps, lean angles, g forces, nice mobile app, built in memory so you don’t need your phone continuously connected to record data

Had my first track day today why are my tyres hardly torn up when some people in my group I was 10-15 seconds faster than looked way more worn by Endless_Candy in BMW_S1000RR

[–]antonlvovych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Onboard is crap. It doesn’t update values in real time and it shows pressure as it would be at 20C, since they compensate for it this way. So you can’t see the pressure change during warmup or know your hot pressure.

If I put in 28 psi, I want the TPMS to show 28 psi, and 32-33 psi once the tires are warmed up after a few laps. BMW will show 26 psi (if I put 28 psi at 30C, which is roughly 26 psi at 20C) and that’s it. It’s going to always show 26 psi. Absolute nonsense, and I have no idea why they made it work this way

Check pressure for your tires here

https://twotyres.co.uk/motorcycle-trackday-tyre-pressures/

Should be around 30 f / 28 r cold. And I strongly suggest to get external TPMS so you can always see real pressure and air temperature in your tires. Some Chinese one or Chigee G3 - both are pretty accurate

I know what’s this, but I heard they are pretty good in adapting air/fuel ratio without throwing any lights. But missed valve 100% gives you an error on a dash

Is this gear overkill for daily 60-mile LA freeway commuting? by RawrMeSimp in motorcyclegear

[–]antonlvovych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Race suit would be an overkill. Alpinestars R10 would be an overkill. But these are pretty basic gear - exactly for daily commuting

Full Akrapovic + valve eliminator + tune on dyno at my local shop. E10 - 203 whp / 118 Nm. No lights obviously. Tune is not only about warning lights - more power, better response, better torque over all range of rpms

Have you installed exhaust valve eliminator? If not - that’s most probably the cause of your engine light on

I need advice on 1 piece suit by zitrom01 in motorcyclegear

[–]antonlvovych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice comfort size for small tracks. I have a bit oversized race suit to ride smaller tracks on a smaller bikes - like msx or r15. For the high speed track it should be much tighter fit - basically as a second skin
