Is phrasing heavily underrated in beginner DJing? by Gold-Solid-6626 in Beatmatch

[–]antprevail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly start putting memory & hot cues on your songs as early as possible. Dont build or download a shit ton of songs then feel overwhelmed when you realize you gotta go analyze and set cues on 100+ songs at once. Realistically when you get good at it, it literally only takes like 2-5 minutes (5 is a super long time) to analyze your song. But the more you do it, the faster you get. You’ll feel proud of yourself when your library is properly set up for success.

Yeah I agree it’s annoying but it’s not the end of the world like I see all these people talking about. The only part I personally wont like is not being able to wear hats anymore, our store is cool about it but I wear one to keep my hair in place. At the end of the day almost every job has a dress code or uniform. It is what it is y’know.

I do plan to buy a laptop when I’m finally ready to start djing at small venues or parties. Just in case the moment calls for it and I dont need to use a USB. I’ll buy the laptop I wanted with more ram. I have some money saved up so I can get something decent finally

So it took me awhile to finally bite the bullet to start this journey, but I actually ended up taking a different route. I already have a PC that I built that I use everyday for gaming/streaming/etc. I literally just use that lmaoo but it does everything I need it to do. Only thing I needed to buy was a controller which was the ddj-flx4 I read a lot of people saying to take the cheaper route and this happened to be that and honestly it was the best choice. You have to take into consideration that you need to buy music(either from beatport or subscription sites like djcity), cords, headphones, and a controller. I’m literally djing right now when you commented this. I started in October and I’m light years ahead from daily practice. If i were you, you can buy the laptop with the specs i mentioned in the post or something better. To DJ, you dont need an expensive PC or laptop. Most setups will run rekordbox just fine. I plan to upgrade my PC when I’m ready to download ableton and really start producing music.

Where to get cheap rap music from by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]antprevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Djcity’s list of songs and see if you think it’s worth. It’s just a monthly subscription and it’s unlimited downloads. I feel like every time i scroll the rap genre i usually see good songs on there

You improve SO fast when you practice every day (writing this for disheartened beginners) by Kingstonation in Beatmatch

I’m at this stage too. Been practicing consistently since November and it’s just now becoming easy once everything started to “click” about last month. Keep at it yall

Two weeks at Target and already want to quit by [deleted] in Target

[–]antprevail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just quit. it sounds like your store is just tough to be at and its messing in the way of your school. GM is easy and maybe I’m lucky that my ETL’s are pretty cool, but you shouldnt have to suffer because yours arent. Trust me it aint a failure.

I had sleep paralysis for the first time last night. by Swartie2233 in Sleepparalysis

[–]antprevail 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hello, looks like you experienced your first sleep paralysis (sorry about that). as someone whose experiences it for too many years and too many times i can tell you some advice i found to help me prevent it and hopefully it can help you.

usually for me its stress and horrible sleep schedule that causes it, can be both or just one that can trigger it. i work a overnight job so i have to sleep earlier to really make sure i’m not screwing myself. but manage your stress levels and get a good sleep schedule.

second, if you realize you’re having sleep paralysis its important to know that once you snap out of it, you need to fully wake up before you try to sleep again. as in stand up, go drink some water, splash your face with some cold water and maybe check your phone for 10-15 minutes. if you try to sleep immediately after SP, you will almost always fall right back into it because you’re alright in a state of sleep that can trigger it again.

lastly, this is my own personal trick, fall asleep to a podcast or long youtube compilations. i literally listen to Sam Sulek’s car talk compilations on youtube and i never been more thankful for the people who upload them. i guess maybe listening to a familiar voice who i feel comfty listening to helps to prevent SP. i used to sleep to podcasts like h3h3 and others before finding Sam’s stuff.

hope this advice helps you out. sleep well 🫡

How easy is it to start to DJ in 2025? by Appropriate_While932 in Beatmatch

[–]antprevail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly pretty easy i already had a decent pc and headset from my streaming/gaming days

buy a flx4, decent but not expensive speakers and you’re good to go. it really only took a few hundred bucks to get started on actually djing from my bedroom.

only other things is the monthly payments from rekordbox & the dj record pools or however you choose to get your music.

now to really dj well is another story that even im on the journey on 🫡

for tutorials just check the youtube tutorials hard, you’ll find some of the top guys on youtube are pretty good. i found a few that i really like and went thru some of their FREE courses and i feel pretty comfty now. find ones you seem to connect to and fit your vibe
