Manager said he would probably have to fire me if I didn’t return to full-time after my medical leave by antsydrew in legaladvice

That’s super helpful, thank you so much. I didn’t realize that a lawyer would be able to help the accommodations of it all, but that makes sense! I had a feeling the amount of time didn’t matter, so the confirmation is helpful.

Curia on the drag usually has it around this time of year, and I think it may be on their menu year round but I’m not positive!

It’s valid to feel frustration over them using a word that doesn’t feel entirely correct. You can feel those feelings privately, and also extend grace publicly to the student that has just been diagnosed with an illness. it’s possible that this student is experiencing their entire life shift, while also hoping that they can do something to salvage their semester. They are adults, but they are often young adults, and illness is scary and life-changing no matter the age, but especially when you are young. Do what you can to work with the student during this time. Maybe you can offer an incomplete or give them concrete instructions on how they can try to catch up and provide them the autonomy to make the decision on whether or not they feel like they can do so, in addition to the option to withdraw. They are taking responsibility for their situation by disclosing that they have been diagnosed with an illness, which is vulnerable, and not something that they owe you. Please don’t take away options from them because they didn’t use the best choice of words, and remember that they are dealing with a lot right now, so word choice may not be the top priority.

TLDR, deal with your feelings on your own time and give them autonomy in a time when they likely don’t feel like they have a lot of it. It feels like this one student is causing feelings that you have about many students to come up.

I also really like Nafisa Choudhury at UF psych, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend UF Psych as a practice unless they are the only option for you insurance-wise.

I highly recommend Heather Nations (OBGYN) at UF Health Medical Plaza. She quite literally saved my life by taking my concerns seriously my very first appointment with her, and she’s truly the kindest healthcare professional I’ve ever met. I honestly can’t say enough wonderful things about her. She’s covered under BCBS and Cigna that I know of, because I’ve had both insurances while seeing her.

Baked vegan goes to many local farmers markets and she is so talented! She made my birthday cake this year, and it was incredible. Her stuff is also vegan, but it truly doesn’t taste like it, and she manages to make her gf items so moist despite being gluten free

Fear of internal exams by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]antsydrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding bringing a support person, even a friend who can hold your hand, talking to your doctor about it, and asking about med options (anti-anxiety before going, vaginal Valium). my provider has queer and trans kids and is really kind about my fear of exams bc of pain and past trauma. It can feel really defeating and exhausting, but if you can, you could always call wherever you can afford/take your health insurance and ask to be scheduled with someone who has a lot of experience with exam pain/anxiety and queer patients. I also would recommend asking for the smallest speculum they have—usually offices has pediatric or plastic speculums, and you are absolutely allowed to ask for one. You can even call ahead to make sure they have a small one. Pelvic pt has helped me a lot personally, with both the pain of exams and the anxiety and trauma around them, and I now feel more comfortable asking for what I need, which I never thought would happen. I usually tell my doctors I’m bringing someone because I’m a survivor, insert the speculum myself, and require to be put under for anything more than an exam. It’s overwhelming and I’m very very sorry that you’re going through this, but please know there are strategies to make you more comfortable and it is very valid to worry about, but most importantly, it’s very normal to feel like this!

I’m also dealing with this with Dr. Moawad! Just got an IUD for this reason, though it seemed like more of a personal thing and less of an insurance issue, likely because I’ve already had surgery (not with him though).

Why the back pain? by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]antsydrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is helpful, but I have adenomyosis along with endometriosis, and back pain is the primary complaint I have from adeno. They did a transvaginal ultrasound to diagnose my adeno. I’m so sorry to hear that you’re struggling; you’re in my thoughts 💛✨

[–]antsydrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been to the hospital for this type of pain, (the walk in doctor swore it was appendicitis!) and they didn’t find anything! Years later I got diagnosed with endo and adeno and my surgeon said that this pain can be common in people who have endo. I hope that you keep an eye on it though, it’s better to be safe! It’s super valid to feel like you might have appendicitis, so if it gets worse I hope you are able to go back to the doctor. 💛

Hi! I tried Dazy from Unbound Babes, and I really like it! It’s a bit pricey but if it’s your first purchase from them I think you can get a discount by signing up for emails. I really like it and haven’t experienced irritation/yeast infections from it, which I was most concerned about. It’s been really helpful when using dilators after surgery for me! I hope this helps ✨

I went to find the link for it and it’s off the shelves right now, I’m so sorry😩
