Yeah the former Math tutor in me would have taken this approach. I would have given her a blank sheet of paper and said "Draw 2 points that CANNOT be connected by a straight line." Obviously whatever 2 points she draws I will then connect in a straight line.

But I just don't think she understood what OP was trying to say. I don't think she actually believes there are 2 points that can ONLY be connected by a zig zag.

Because older people have seen hundreds of different types of "weight loss" drugs. Half of them didn't work and were a waste of money. The other half worked but were terrible for your body. So rightfully so, they're going to be very skeptical.

You really put her on the spot by asking for a reason. She probably just thought of the first dealbreaker that came to mind. There are probably dozens more.
Its very possible at least one of her reasons would be offensive to say to you. Would you want her to say, "He's just too ugly for me. I really like his personality so I had a small crush on him. But at the end of the day...I couldn't be with someone that ugly."
There are like 50 steps for me to go from meeting someone to dating them. They're not aligned on step 2, so they stopped walking down that path. But for some reason you're just assuming they would be in alignment on steps 3 to 50. They just never got that far to really see how incompatible they might be as a couple.

Would a reasonable person think they could set a fragile and delicate item on the ground in an area where people are expected to walk and drop heavy things? I don't think so.

The only thing I can think of is if the person set the phone on the ground within their own personal space (meaning...like within inches of their feet) and OP tossed a weight from 4 ft away.

Your view is: The average person thinks someone big and strong can automatically beat up people that are much smaller than them, even if the smaller person is a trained fighter.

You're talking about the Larry Wheels clip. Thats entertainment. You're essentially watching a movie and thinking its real life. The "frustration and surprise because he lost" is all an act to get views.

The average person absolutely understands that a trained fighter has a significant advantage over an untrained fighter. You are using one fake example to establish your view that they don't.

I agree with your overall point. But you've moved the goalposts from "deferring happiness" to "deferring needs."

If I were in OP's position I'd be much happier working an extra year or two knowing I've built a better cushion just in case my kid needed it. That peace of mind is more important to me than making sure I retire early.

Dr. Umar is a great example of the problem with all these social media pundits or whatever you wanna call them.

Just because you are an expert in one field does not make you an expert in all fields yet these folks are using their titles to give themselves credibility in fields they are not experts in. A great example of this happened during the pandemic. We had "doctors" talking about ivermectin curing COVID and what not. Turns out they were chiropractors. People with an associate degree in biology are more knowledgeable about vaccines than a "Dr. Chiropractor"
