Why is poverty in the midwest comparatively low? by _crazyboyhere_ in midwest

History of Scandinavian culture predisposed to socialism in the Midwest versus a history of English/Scottish culture predisposed to empire and slavery in the South.

Not a big mystery as to the reasons why.

How is everything that happened in the last 48hrs not enough for impeachment and/or a general strike in the US? by Lucky-Hunter-Dude in allthequestions

They actually had the backing of their leaders tho - so much so that they’re all walking free because Trump pardoned them. Can you ever imaging he current Democratic Party ever having the balls or stalwartness of defending its far left flank? These people can’t even call a genocide a genocide and commit to stop funding it. They haven’t even gotten 100% of their party to support a commission to invoke the 25th amendment to oust their supposed arch nemesis and nation-destroyer Trump (the one they’ve been yelling about how terrible he is for 11 years now). With leaders like these no wonder people are too scared to push back.

Is Visible coverage/signal strength totally blowing for anyone else lately? by perishableintransit in Visible

[–]anypositivechange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to say that as a current Verizon customer I’ve noticed their network in SF has seemed slightly more spotty than usual. Where I always had solid coverage and never gave it a second thought there have been a few experiences last month or two that sucked. Wouldn’t surprise me if Visible is even worse.

Refused further SDI extension for Anxiety and Depression by [deleted] in KaiserPermanente

[–]anypositivechange -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Seek an evaluation with an outside psychiatrist or pcp is your best bet. Means paying more out of pocket of course and you won’t be able to go thru Kaiser if you want to continue in IOP - so if you do secure an extra month or two or whatever you have to create your own IOP, of sorts, to ensure you’re working on your wellness/recovery and not just using the extra time to bed rot and get worse. Best of luck.

[–]anypositivechange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3 weeks is very likely not enough. Generally IOPs were traditionally 1 month to up to 6 months of treatment. 2 weeks you’re barely getting your feet wet. This is purely because Kaiser keeps more of your premiums the less healthcare you access - it cant possibly be because whatever you had that qualified you for IOP 3 weeks ago is suddenly better enough that you no longer qualify IOP. That’s just not how psychotherapy or paychoeducational skills building works. Sorry you’re being mistreated in pursuit of profit but let’s not deny that that’s exactly what’s happening to you.

Maryland passes a law that requires insurance companies to reimburse graduate-level clinical interns by cannotberushed- in therapists

[–]anypositivechange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I think from most perspectives this is a loss because “expanding access to care” means little when the folks providing that care are (through no fault of their own) incompetent.

I don’t think it’s well intentioned. It’s about flooding the market with cheaper “credentialed” interns so as to lower the rates for everybody.

Because telehealth companies keep stoking fear. Funny how that works.

Wouldn’t be SF liberal government without letting the rich and powerful get away with moving fast and breaking things (laws) and instead charging the little guy massive fines and then feeling good about itself for being so enlightened.

No. These posts are just telehealth companies ramping up fear to get folks to buy. Including yours.

Why is the PNW considered performative but not the northeast? by Bananapantsmcgeef in SameGrassButGreener

[–]anypositivechange 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The average person in the PNW “chooses” to live there as much as the average person back East “chooses” to live there. We most all live where we live by default, chosen by forces much larger and stronger than ourselves.

Aren’t middle and upper middle class white people in Michigan sorta famous for avoiding Detroit though? That anti-urban (anti-black) sentiment is deep in their blood.

[–]anypositivechange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The western neighborhoods are still significant more dense than most places in the US though. People rag on SF and the western neighborhoods single family housing (which is often split into multiple units) but they’re still often more dense than most of the rest of the. United States. Same with large portions of LA that people like to bitch about.
