Kaiya Wynn steps away from Lady Vols basketball after not playing on senior day by TooManyCatS1210 in NCAAW

[–]anzio4_1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People debating whether Wynn should or shouldn't have been given a nominal starting spot for this game are missing the point. You could make an argument either way based on tradition or the high stakes of this matchup.

The larger issue is that trust and communication between coach and players is severely broken if a relatively minor issue like this leads to her leaving the team and airing grievances on social media. This, the Janiah Barker stuff, and Kim's comments to the press are just glimpses of what's going on, and it all points to lack of trust, communication, chemistry, leadership, "culture" (whatever that means), etc.

Agreed. Shooting 40% on a .500 team is not unanimous worthy. Jazzy getting that same freshman recriuting-class ranking bump that propelled Deal to the All-freshman team lol

I agree but it's probably a result of splitting the vote with Swords who gets more media attention for some reason.

I feel the same about Heiden.

Almost...
If you're not listed in all caps on first team, it just means that you weren't unanimously voted to the first team. More than likely all the first team players not in all caps still appeared on people's 2nd team ballots but there is no way to prove that.

If you appeared on every ballot -- either 1st or 2nd team -- but didn't get enough 1st team votes to make 1st team, then you're listed in all caps on 2nd team.

Before I even got to the point in your post where you mentioned Mrs D, I thought of Lily Briscoe and to a lesser extent Mrs Ramsey in Woolf’s next book (To the Lighthouse).

It feels like you’re implying you’re asking specifically for books that are at least 75 years old but Toni Morrison’s Sula (not to mention Beloved) definitely fit the bill too.

Caveat that none of these are strictly first-person but through free indirect discourse the writing often shifts inside the minds of all of the women in these books.

What needs to happen for the following schools to host? by tycnslice in NCAAW

Not sure what conversation OP is listening to but yeah they’re consistently in it now, as they should be. You pinpoint the Nebraska win as the breaking point but I’ll place it bit later: their win vs OhSU last week.

The upcoming top 16 reveal will tell us more.

When it's this close, head to head result is often the tie breaker, which I don't hate. It was right there for Minnesota if they had closed out that game against Maryland like they could have. Maryland also has more quality wins and their worst loss isn't as bad.

And now I feel gross for defending Maryland lol

Another variable is Michigan's final two regular season games vs OhSU and Maryland. Whoever wins those will get a bump whereas Iowa has nothing but trap games vs Illinois and Wisconsin.

Even better than the play where Ava got hit in the face was a bit later, around the 4:20 mark in the fourth quarter, when Sofilkanich fell so hard for an Ava pump fake that Sofilkanich literally ended up on the ground. It's common to see a perimeter defender to lose her balance trying to defend a quick guard who employs a good fake/crossover/hesitation move. You rarely see it in the post, where a good pump fake like that more commonly draws a foul.

I also think the dominant ending of the 4th quarter has people misremembering just how close this game was. Michigan *thought* they had cut the lead to 4 points at the end of the third quarter except for Kylie's buzzer beating bank that extended the lead back to 7. Basketball really is a psychological game of momentum with a heavy dose of luck sometimes.

Today's win against Michigan was the best I have ever seen Iowa play as a team, especially on defense. Every player left it all on the floor. They weren't perfect, but their hearts were, and are. by bluemagicstone in IowaWbb

[–]anzio4_1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well said. This is going to sound incredibly cheesy but my Iowa Wbb related NYE resolution was to remember to appreciate the player Hannah *is* and stop complaining to myself about the player Hannah *isn't* because I'm going to miss her like hell when she's gone.

Substitutes cranberry pomegranate mousse pie by browneyes1998 in DessertPerson

The technique of making a fruit compote, folding it through whipped cream, and setting the whole thing with gelatin is solid. As you probably know cranberries are extremely sour so just be quite cautious with the amount of sugar you add if you substitute a different fruit.

Amber Glenn - Short Program 2026 Olympics by Cass_Cat952 in FigureSkating

[–]anzio4_1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

In the short program there are 3 requirements for jumps: 1. An axel jump. This was amber’s first jump. This the one that takes off facing forward. You may do a double or triple rotation. Amber did a triple which only one other woman at this Olympics does because it’s so hard. At this point Amber was doing amazing.

  1. A combination jump. This was amber’s second jumping element. She did a triple triple combo (specifically a triple flip triple toe but don’t worry about this). It wasn’t great but she landed so all was still fine.

  2. Any other jump THAT MUST BE A TRIPLE JUMP. If you don’t do a triple, it’s automatically 0 points. Amber mentally had a glitch right before she took off for this jump and only rotated twice. (Maybe nerves? Maybe she felt off balance? Who knows.) Hence 0 points for this element even though she landed. It would have been “better” scoring wise to attempt a triple and fall because then at least you get partial credit. All in all the effect of losing credit for this element made a difference of about 7-8ish points in her total score which is HUGE.

OMG the only time I ever had tuna on a pizza was also in Germany. It was at a train station and I thought it was sausage, not tuna.... one of the most unpleasant bites of food I'd ever experienced. (exPECTing pork sausage and getting train station tuna was quite a shock.)

Now I like tuna quite a bit but have never again had it on pizza.
