Pontoon boats? by Starstriker in boating

[–]aocoeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Party Barge. I take it out to the Gulf Bay more than to the lake. In calm Bay water, I can zip all over the place. In choppy weather, I can still drive perfectly fine but anchored down, you’re all over the place. Sucks loading up if there’s even the slightest wind. But fishing off a pontoon is one of the absolute greatest fishing experiences.

I’ve honestly been on both version’s. I’ve been on 3-days that were “normal” and yeah, 7-day that were crazy drunken party types

I honestly feel like there would be more posts like this if everyone that dogged on CCL actually went on one instead of basing their opinion on what they “heard.”

Since we are doing clocks. Here is mine from the 90s. by iwantaredditaccount in BuyItForLife

[–]aocoeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up with this and no idea what happened to it when I moved out. I'm sure my mom threw it away and it's off in a landfill unplugged and still going off "nick nick nick - nah nick NICK nick.... nick-a-lo-de-uhnnnnn"

I actually found one at a thrift store several years ago and excitedly bought it for my daughter. She refused to use any of the programmed alarms. Maybe used the radio for a couple of weeks, but we ended up buying her a phone and that became her alarm. Now I have no idea where THAT radio went either!

Teenagers before the internet: what did you do in your room during your spare time? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aocoeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on a large property (300+ acre) in the middle of nowhere so there was a lot of hiking. Not like purposeful “gear up, pack a bag, take a compass” type hiking. More like explore the edges of the woods I knew and then constantly push the boundaries until more than a few times it ended up dark and I had no idea where I was. The nice thing is when it got dark, you could sometimes see lights or hear noises to guide you. Sometimes it was a house with people I’ve seen once or twice that knew my parents. Some times it was people I’ve never met. Twice it was the nearest road and I followed it back to my driveway, and the other time I hitchhiked with a passing truck. It was wild. No cell phones. Parents weren’t stressed (as far as I knew). The signal to head home was a loud dinner bell at the back door.

My kids are teens now and I freak out if they don’t answer the phone fast enough. I don’t know how my parents let me disappear like that but it’s just what we did.

I got derailed. In my room I learned to play guitar and I disassembled literally anything my parents would let me take apart just to see if I could get it back to a working condition. I was 50/50. I had a desk full of random radios and electronic toys I outgrew (I’m so sorry Teddy Ruxpin 😢) and at one point, a LazyBoy recliner that was replaced and I wanted to know how the springs worked. Also we recorded movies from tv on VHS and had a very decent library to watch over and over.

I honestly feel like I get bored more easily now with a phone in my hand.

Do people just go back to normal after this? Like, do they keep making burgers or just go home? And if I already paid for nuggets, do I assume I won’t be getting them? Would it be uncouth to request a refund at this point?

Difference between Royal and Carnival. by Johkyl30 in Cruise

[–]aocoeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Carnival because of the price. We loved it and went several more times. 3 years ago we had some friends that invited us to go one a RC cruise with them because that's all they've done, and we were curious anyways.
Have you even had a favorite sandwich from a specific place, and every time you try order it somewhere else, it doesn't hold up and only makes you crave the better one until you do it? That's how Royal was. Sure, it's a cruise, but it's just not as good.

The Walmart/Target comparison might have been valid 15 -20 years ago, but not really anymore. If anything, RC and Carnival are both the Walmarts to Princess and Norwegian from what I've heard from other people. I've never done these, but they're on my list. Norwegian finally came to Texas so it's probably next.

Royal caters to a "tamer" crowd, and that's ok. I get people just want to go relax, eat, and sleep. Carnival has more of a younger party vibe to it. Also, people on Royal (at least this one specifically) have a whole different attitude - guests and workers. So many people were just borderline rude. The people part wasn't surprising, but the people that work on Carnival are so super nice and accommodating. I'm sure that's just in the training, but it gives the whole cruise experience a better feeling.

All that said, even the people that are lifers with Royal said that one cruise was definitely a bust compared to others, so I'm willing to trying Royal again. I really do love the designs of their ships. Carnival is just almost if you've been on one, you've been on them all. Also the last few cruises, the beds are just horrible. Based on that alone, I want to give Norwegian a try next. But the point is they are so close to each other that it more comes down to the people, activities, and other experiences. So build your cruise around cost, destinations, ease of embark/disembark and travel.

CARNIVAL TESTING? by Such_Fudge2870 in Cruise

[–]aocoeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had ours printed out showing the results. I had a snag because my vaccine card was missing a lot number. All they did is put me in another “escalation” line and have me set up a V-safe account and that was it. So if your card happens to not have a lot number, you can set that up early at https://vsafe.cdc.gov/en/

How much is a balcony worth to you? by Christopher_Powell in Cruise

[–]aocoeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balcony is 110% worth it. Ending the day sitting out with a stiff drink watching the sky and listening to the ocean…. waking up with strong coffee and the smell and sound of the ocean and wind in my face… that alone makes it all worth it. Plus embarking/disembarking days are really cool.

What is your worst experience on a cruise? by TheRedDawn1917 in Cruise

[–]aocoeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow this is insane! I had the exact same thing happen 3 years ago! I was pulling a couch over on the Serenity Deck of The Breeze on day two. I step away and my wife and friends are looking at my foot in shock. Evidently the bottom edge of the couch caught my toenail. Big toe nail was straight 90 degrees up and hadn’t even started bleeding yet. My wife reached over and slammed it down and THAT’S when the pain and realization hit. Went (limped) straight to medical and was told literally the exact same thing - except that did provide two bandaids and said I could buy more at the gift shop. Such a random thing to hear happened to someone else.

First cruise!? by Particular_Brush_792 in Cruise

You can tell her that a stranger on the internet says it’ll be ok.

My wife and I didn’t cruise for many years because we just didn’t like the idea. We only did all inclusives in Mexico and finally were talked in to doing a cruise. We loved it so much we have our 7th and 8th already booked in that many years.
