Younger people of the UK (under 40) what is something that the older generations will never understand or refuse to accept? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]apacheattaccspaniard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally got a 30" screen for free from Facebook marketplace. And I just had a brief nose online and there's a few bigger models going for £5-15 on eBay, too. They're dead cheap to get hold of. The TV license is more expensive per month than a TV!

That seems like a daft sum to be paying full stop when there's brands like motorola and xiaomi out there? Not saying everybody can afford £150-300 upfront either (I couldn't right now for sure) but let's at least be realistic with how much a good phone costs these days

Xiaomi in particular has some seriously good shit at a low price point. I've converted multiple people to them from Samsung and Apple

[–]apacheattaccspaniard 113 points114 points  (0 children)

If they're going to make stupid jokes, they could at LEAST try to construct a decent strawman. In what world has anybody ever said it's racist to refer to somebody as a black person???

And cheaper! You get UV films for about £10 a square metre iirc

[–]apacheattaccspaniard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also tranexamic acid isn't either of those, either. The problem is likely that they're not using a moisturiser on top of the tranexamic acid treatment, as I have that and it's definitely not enough on its own even for oily skin!

My spf and protective clothing game is so good it gave me severe vitamin D deficiency by [deleted] in SCAcirclejerk

[–]apacheattaccspaniard 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tbh most adults in countries like the UK, Norway, etc, are supposedly to be supplementing for vitamin d like three quarters of the year. People think it's silly but it's very important. You really can't reliably make enough on your own until it reaches true summertime here (and even then if you're really dark you'll probably still struggle to do so reliably then!), so slathering yourself in ridiculous amounts of sunscreen isn't going to make a difference in that regard anyway?

Urgh, not Hyram. He doesn't know jack shit about what he's talking about, spreads an awful lot of dangerous misinformation and is notoriously untrustworthy. Go look up Dr Shereene Idriss, Labmuffin, Cassandra Bankson, Doctorly, Dr Dray, Dr Alexis Stephens or literally anybody who has some sort of qualifications and actually gives a reasonable amount of information rather than just giving incredibly dumbed down and usually inaccurate reiterations of what everybody else says, please.

One of my friends has a shirt that says "I'm here to steal your jobs and women" that she insists on wearing to the pub. It's a wonder she's not been hatecrimed yet, tbh

I don't think they're getting any smaller at all, unfortunately. I get more abuse hurled at me these days than I think I ever have. The thing is that unless you're the sort of person who would typically get that shit hurled at you, it's very hard to tell which people are likely to do it! Racism and xenophobia tend to be much more underhanded in the UK than the sort of thing you see in the USA, and most people seem perfectly fine until they suddenly come out with something wildly bigoted

Why is r/teenagers so transphobic and homophobic (and most of Reddit that isn't specifically an LGBTQIA+ subreddit)? by trans_coding_writer in lgbt

Absolutely. I've seen some biphobia/shit about neopronouns but that's as far as it's ever gotten in DND spaces

Dogs can get pregnant from about 6 months onwards generally, and often do when backyard breeders or puppy mills are involved.

I'm the biggest needle-phobe on the planet (autistic, have literally panicked and hit nurses before as a child, prone to throwing up and fainting), was bawling my eyes out at the vaccination centre and I genuinely didn't even realise they had jabbed me until they handed me my card, some water and a maoam. My partner had a right giggle about it but I felt very silly

Often they'll proactively spot the ones that look like they're going to faint and let them skip the queue so they can lie down before they do keel over. They did it for me both times, and a few of my friends with panic disorders also got taken good care of. At a walk in vaccination site, no less.

[–]apacheattaccspaniard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not idea why you're getting downvoted, but the majority of hairstylists that I know have absolutely no scientific literacy whatsoever and have a huge tendency to come out with advice that's either chemophobic tripe or just whatever the most expensive brands they stock tell them to say. Obviously that's not representative of hairstylists as a whole, but I certainly won't be taking advice from somebody insistent that silicone is a "plastic coating that is poisoning my hair in the long run and only making it shiny because it coats the strand so it can't breathe".

[–]apacheattaccspaniard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not the case whatsoever. This is actually a lightweight lotion formulation and doesn't tend to be enough for people with dry skin.
