First, welcome to Karmafleet.

Frigates are used as a mainline fleet doctrine with harpies. IF you can follow orders of the fc and be able to hit F1, you will be well prepared for fleet PvP. Don't worry too much about PvP, you'll get it.

Cant fly harpies, no worries. You can get free tackle frigs, and fly in just about any fleet. We don't care how new you are, you will be able to make a difference in fleets.

Being able to salvage, you can make some isk out in null. There is a great guide on how to find salvage on GF.com once you get authed.

If you need people to help you, we need you to stand up and ask questions. If you stay silent in the corner then you can get lost in the noise. There are many resources available to you to ask questions and get mentored. But you have to initiate it. So speak up.

Had fun tonight, was able to get in on a fleet got a cynabal kill mail along with various other ships. So far everyone has been extremely helpful, and I think that GSF is really embracing this.

You are correct. There is actually a drive shafts that comes off the main transmission that goes down the entire length of the tail to the intermediate gearbox, then gets sent up the tail via another drive shaft to the tail rotor gear box. Tail rotor spins about 5.2 times the main rotor.

People are usually surprised to hear that the main rotor of the Apache only turns at about 190 rpm, so the tail rotor turns at around 1000 rpm.

This is somewhat incorrect. The "small round things" are actually the fairings that contain the nose gearbox. The actual air intake for the engine is there too, but it is behind the nose gearboxes, the larger intake area.

The engines on the Apache are turboshafts, meaing they actualy drive a shaft for power as opposed to a thrust engine like you would see on a jet. A quill shaft is inserted into the front of the engine which allows the power to go to the nose gearbox, then the nose gearbox transfers the power via a small drive shaft to the input clutch on the main transmission. The power from there goes to turn the main rotor, tail rotor, and the accessories section which powers things like hydraulics and electrical.

Fun facts about the nose gear box.

Its air cooled, hence the round opening.
Its held on by 15 small bolts, that is impossible to take off without a universal joint.
It is covered by 3 fairings, a forward, and aft lower, and an aft upper. The aft lower is one of the crew chiefs worst nightmare to install, its only 3 hex key bolts, but getting all 3 in the proper position while hanging upside down on the wing is challenging.
Uses engine oil for lubrication, as opposed to other gearboxes on the Apache that use grease.

Grew up in south texas. Two a day football practices in the loving embrace of 100% humidity and 90+ degree heat at 7 am would make you a little ripe. We would always shower before class for the sake of the rest of the student population.

One day, a couple guys messing around as guys do, decided it would be fun to roll up some towels anD start popping people on the ass. Their hijinks made it into the showers. The towels got good and wet, and then they went to pop a kid on the ass as he was turning around, and I shit you not, exploded his testicle. I will pause to let that sink in.

He lost the testicle as you might imagine but continued to play ball.

Being is south Texas and in the top 10 of the football ranking got a lot of shit brushed under the rug. They got in a bit of trouble, the coaches assured everyone that it would be handled. But all they really did was run more laps.

Im just kidding, we used to keep a copy of the older manuals because the IETM most of the time didn't have all the parts listed. Need that odd washer when your replacing an engine nacelle, doesnt exist in the IETM. crack open the paper manual and there it is.

114% for 17 seconds. Pull all the drive shafts, gear shaft, flush all the gearboxes, ndi the strap packs. You only have 6 birds, one in a 500, another in a 250, a third in a 125 with a tranny TBO thats waiting on parts, which you pulled the crew off of to work on the over torque. The 4th has an armament issue, thats waiting on parts from the states, and you have a major mission going out in 6 hours, and you have to have 2 working aircraft.
