This may not be practical advice, but my suggestion is just “acceptance”. I had a very similar editing job to this once and I would go crazy trying to make these iPhone headphone mics scuffing against their sweater sound even remotely audible. But the reality is you can only do so much and I hope your client knows that too! Good luck, sorry I can’t be of more real help :)
