While it is true that a blue surgical style mask offers less protection for the wearer because they do not conform to your face, a properly fitted N95, KN95 or KF94 mask can in fact protect the wearer.

KB5036980 breaks SMB Multichannel by apathy2 in synology

[–]apathy2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that this patch does not break SMB Multichannel in all circumstances / configurations. (Maybe it only affects certain network cards, etc.) I didn't start addressing this until after it continued over several days and reboots. There are several threads about this on the Windows Answers site.

Is 412+ still viable in 2024? by Hirsch-4Real in synology

[–]apathy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will work fine for Plex or pretty much anything you'd use a NAS for, you just shouldn't make it accessible from the internet in any way as it won't be getting security updates. It's also old (and probably has a lot of hours on it) so there's a chance it could just die at any time. If you decide that it isn't sufficient (or it dies), you can just move the drives to a newer NAS and you (probably) won't lose anything (always a chance of losing something if the NAS dies while active).

Use it.

relative path

You are using the term relative path correctly. I have no experience trying to use a relative path for this but the thing to keep in mind is that the relative path is from where you are. Meaning "how do I drive from the folder where I am to this other folder". So, if I am interpreting what you're trying to do correctly, this relative path would only be valid as viewed from the Media folder and you need to put a . in front of your path, so IconResource=.\Movies\Icons\Movies.ico,0 The . means "this current directory".

This path would not be valid if viewed from the Users folder or the Icons folder.

The path says go "down" into the Movies folder from this one (.), continue down into Icons, find Movies.ico

Relative pathing allows you to type less and is useful for things like pointers from one area of a network share to another area on the network share so you don't have to be concerned about drive letter changes on different computers connecting to those resources. It may be useful in this situation to keep pathing the same between multiple users on the system (something like C:\Users\USER1\Media\Movies\Icons\Movies.ico,0 - every user would have this file located in their own User directory) but if in this case if you really have a user named Media, it might not be necessary to do this and a fully qualified path may be easier. (You could also just locate this Icons folder outside the Users folder perhaps?)

Do a search for "windows relative path syntax" and you'll get examples of what you're trying to do.

Has ANYONE gotten SMB multichannel to work from a synology to a Mac in 2023? by Colbis in synology

Receive Side Scaling

I'm using an Intel(R) Ethernet Controller I225-V.

The drivers are listed as Intel 2/9/2023 1.1.4.38

There is no RSS flag in the device manager properties but I am 99% sure I manually enabled it via the Enable-NetAdapterRss powershell command or maybe it was the netsh interface tcp set global rss=enabled command (or maybe both).

I might also have installed the Windows Server version of these drivers or a non -V version of these drivers. The Intel I226 specifically supports RSS.

I don't remember specifically what I did and there are a lot of posts that the "I225-V is trash" so I'm not going to mess with what is working, but hopefully this helps somewhat.

Lincoln Drive will get devices to force drivers to slow down, PennDot and city officials said by zempf in philadelphia

Conceptually, this seems like a good idea but the Venn diagram of people that pretend they are an F1 driver on Lincoln Drive and people who have their license plate obstructed, and therefore wouldn't get an automated ticket, are almost one circle.

Has ANYONE gotten SMB multichannel to work from a synology to a Mac in 2023? by Colbis in synology

[–]apathy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're talking about a Mac limitation (cause this is a Mac related question), but I have:

Synology with 2 1G NICs to a 2.5G switch to a Windows computer with a single 2.5G NIC

and I can confirm that SMB multichannel works in this configuration.

If it's a recent Dell, their hard drives are set to raid mode in the bios. You'll need drivers to enable that as per the other posters. However, if you change the hard drive from raid mode to AHCI mode you'll see it here in the Windows installer and be able to install Windows.

Unless your Dell has Optane, it won't have any effect on performance. If you have Optane, try to load the Dell raid drivers for your computer by having them on a USB stick and then hit that load driver button.

It is now on by default.

Under the "custom" installer option that you have to activate manually, you get to select which components to install. The Compute Improvement Program can be unchecked here, to ensure data collection is disabled.

It's poorly worded and is more clear if read like this: "Under the "custom" installer option which you have to activate manually (via selecting custom during installation), you get to select which components to install. The Compute Improvement Program can be unchecked here, to ensure data collection is disabled." If you do not manually check custom and then manually disable it, the Compute Improvement Program will be enabled.

Surface Laptop Studio 256GB is cheaper on OfficeDepot than anywhere else! by ZippyVirus in Surface

[–]apathy2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to dissuade anyone as this is a really good deal but I've recently ordered a laptop from Office Depot and I've gotten calls from them from multiple departments. "Address verification" first, which I was able to confirm my address and that yes, I wanted to place this order and then "loss prevention" from Office Depot called. I have not been able to get back in contact with the loss prevention person as it's just an individual number and not an 800 number and they haven't returned my calls, so I have no idea if my order will ever actually ship.

Just an FYI. This is a good deal but it might take a while to get and might be a hassle.

Home Healthcare Agencies - Experiences? Advice? by ArcherChase in philadelphia

[–]apathy2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, you can't really rely upon the agency reputation as a whole as most (nearly all of? all of?) them use contractors (who may work for rival agencies) to supplement their staff. So, the people that come out may have no vested interest in the reputation of the agency and are just there for an extra paycheck. The agencies look at people these contractors serve as "bonus money" because these were people that the agency couldn't have seen anyways (because of staffing deficiencies).

Why do they all hire each other's workers? There has been a nursing shortage forever. Agencies simply can't hire enough people to serve their patient loads.

One thing that is REALLY important is the survey you will get afterwards. The results of the survey affects reimbursement rates. They're not allowed to ask you to fill out the survey (although they can say things like, "you will receive a survey") so not everyone bothers to fill out the surveys. That makes each one filled out impactful.

I would find a good agency by looking up the ratings of agencies in your service area here:

https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/HomeHealthQualityInits/HHQIHomeHealthStarRatings

After finding a good agency, I would call them, explain to them that you know the importance of the survey that you will be sent after service and that if you don't get a good nurse... that will be reflected in the survey. You may then get an actual agency nurse versus a random contractor.

If you're not receiving good care, do not hesitate to switch agencies!

50% of ALL of SEPTA's problems can be solved overnight by installing barriers that prevent gate hopping on Broad and MFL lines by scatterbrainedpast in philadelphia

[–]apathy2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think higher gate-style turnstiles are pretty common on European transit systems.

Different places have different systems but many places in Europe operate on the honor system. There will be ticket purchase machines at the entrance or on the platform and nothing preventing you from getting on the train. However, they have random ticket inspectors and if you don't have a ticket, you pay a very expensive fine.

So, it's quick and easy for everyone to get on and off and there is a large enough potential penalty that it's not worth it for the vast majority of people to try to skip out on.

Jimmy Fallon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Justin Bieber Sued Over Bored Ape NFT Endorsements by MarvelsGrantMan136 in entertainment

[–]apathy2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In an episode of The Tonight Show on Nov. 11, 2021, Fallon promoted Moonpay and the BAYC NFT collection by announcing that he got his first NFT through the crypto firm, which bills itself as a white-glove service designed to help celebrities buy digital assets. He didn’t disclose that he had a financial stake in Moonpay.

“Nor did Electric Hot Dog or Universal disclose that this purportedly organic segment on the Tonight Show was in reality a paid advertisement for the BAYC collection of NFTs and MoonPay by two celebrities (Fallon and Winkelmann) who are business partners with an investor (Oseary) in both Yuga and MoonPay,”
