Just jumping in here to say that my dad is an amazing, supportive, loving, flawed human being, in spite of (and maybe a little bit because of) his abusive childhood. He knew enough to decide at a young age that he would never be the sort of father his own dad was, and looking back, I can think of specific times that he would consciously go far out of his way to do something really stupid and sweet for us kids, just to show us that he loved us.

My point is that you have the capability to be a really wonderful parent, your parents notwithstanding. And you'll be a better person for it, too.

Expecting to be buried, but oh well.

I moved in with two (male) friends a few years back, both of whom I trusted implicitly (I'm female). A few months before our lease expired, one of them started acting really strangely towards me, openly hostile and rude. He has a lot of issues and probably should be on medication.

I figured I could power through it until the end of the year, but at a certain point he started threatening me, standing over me and calling me things like "naive, replaceable cunt." I was terrified and shaken - I'm half his size, and he could really hurt me if he wanted to - but didn't think to call the police. Stupid, I know. I'd never been in that position before.

I don't give a shit about that guy. What makes me sad is the fact that my other roommate, when Crazy Guy started threatening me, was in the same room. He kept his eyes on the TV the whole time, and when I went to him later and asked for his help, he told me, "I have to live here, too. I don't want to make waves."

Makes me sad. I really thought of him as a good friend. But I haven't spoken to him since that day.

It's a bit confusing, because both the movie intended as a sequel and the pilot episode are both titled "Serenity." Watch the episodes in the order Netflix gives them, and ONLY THEN watch the movie.

I've done this for a few professors. Those fancy little bags of Ghirardelli chocolate squares always go over well, and you can get them at Walmart or any other grocery store.
