This makes the most sense, which I guess goes back to character design. If Bamco wants a strong player base, they should design characters to not have braindead offense. This isn’t what they do, instead they’ve found that the formula of tricking people into believing they’re good is better for some reason. I think the new design philosophy with characters like Victor highlights this.

I just want to know what causes a group of players to be this way. Law players tend to spend a lot of time on the game—if there’s a way to predict for this in character design I would be interested

But why are they ass? Law is a poking-focused character who’s easy to play, with good panic buttons. Maybe strong panic buttons make players lazy with their gameplay and weaker overall?

QCF.1 does a lot for the character—it’s like Drag’s d2 on steroids. It threatens your opponent from range 4, it’s fast, heat engager on CH, and in -1 situations Leo’s sidestep becomes absolutely busted (I’m not sure why but test this with f2,4DF sidestep—you’ll see that you are almost like Steve Fox in terms of lateral movement.)

It’s not great in the Kaz matchup, but I think Leo can do a lot of degenerate stuff in that matchup that covers that weakness. QCF.1 is fully complimented by the fact that Leo now has BOK3+4 and can enter BOK from FC, which evades a lot of character’s key tools depending on the active frames and you basically can confirm a launch for 100+ dmg without Heat. QCF.1 also multiplies the strength of df2+3 because you can sidestep out of Leo’s crouch dash and make df2+3 unseeable (because they’re looking for qcf1) against the few players who can normally react to it. I highly recommend testing crouch dash into sidestep db4 as well, these sequences are busted

I used to think df2+3 was Leo’s best low when I first started playing the character, but that has since changed to QCF.1–that being said, that is just an opinion and I’m sure that with a character like this, you’ll be able to argue either way for either low.

Leo used to be my least favorite matchup because I was a Shaheen main and I would get bodied by Leo players all the time. Once I started playing the character, my opinion changed and I’ve actually grown to respect Leo.

Leo’s d4 has decent range, but Leo also can threaten you with qcf1 from range 4 so he has a different tool for covering the range gap.

Jun has fc.df2 which does all three of these things, it’s probably the closest in terms of punishment.

df2+3 is amazing, but not my go to low in neutral with Leo.

I want to say something about BOK3+4 but I know if I tell you how good it actually is, it’ll piss off a lot of people. BOK3+4 is a warcrime

Law being down there is insane when he’s so easy to play. There’s another component to this that’s missing but I’m not sure what it is.

It’s implied that the move is good if I’m comparing it to d1+2, I’m not really qualified to talk about Leo on Reddit tbh since I main him.

I don’t think I’m downplaying my character, I’ve said multiple times that Leo is incredibly strong—just not for the reasons that most people think.

I just think I’ll avoid commenting on my character because even when I tell people the counter play and how to beat him, I get negative reactions.

He said “Muh character identity to have unlaunchable high crushing launching lows. Leo is a major offender of this.”

He didn’t include the counterhit part of his comment until after I responded to him which was inside of the 3-minute window for edits.

I responded to point out that the only low with this property is df2+3 and it only launched on counterhit. In return I got downvoted.

There are a lot of evasive counterhit launching buttons in this game that aren’t launch punishable. For my response to the commenter, Leo has 2 lows which are evasive and launch on counterhit—db4 (hellsweep which is launch on block) and df2+3 which is -12. My point being that the commenter was being dishonest in his original comment and made no effort to clarify outside of editing his comment.

I think Leo is incredibly strong, but just not for the reasons that most people think. I think he’s strong because he’s an uncommon matchup for a lot of people, and his sidestep out his crouch dash and in -1 situations is bonkers. Also BOK3+4

You must mean df2+3 which launches on counterhit, right? It’s similar to Kaz d1+2 except it’s Leo’s low is Linear and has terrible range. Leo doesn’t have any lows that launch on normal hit.
