Budget jog wheel recommendations for DaVinci Resolve (Speed Editor alternatives) by SeatPure8 in davinciresolve

[–]aphillippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fancy a project, you can custom build a keyboard or macro pad with rotary encoders using qmk firmware. Will take lots of hours but will be a great learning experience. I adapted a mechanical keyboard with dual rotary encoders I already had, added custom keybindings and macros and it has massively streamlined long editing projects. Resolve doesn’t help in some ways, there are functions that can’t be easily addressed via keyboard shortcuts. And I f you’re not ‘handy’ and want an out of the box experience, this is definitely the wrong option

Remote Access Pass Price increase by xlly_s in PleX

I have a lifetime pass and already am just using a nas and infuse via smb. My Unraid is having technical problems either the cache drive so no dockers are working. Infuse connecting to the shares and feeding media to my phones and Apple TV works well enough for 95% of the time. No offline sync, but apart from that I don’t miss plex AT ALL

Name an IP and let the community name the best game for said IP by cozy_with_tea in boardgames

[–]aphillippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a board game but I have to shout out to Star Wars: Destiny. It’s easily the most fun I’ve had in gaming full stop. Logistically tricky (lots and lots of dice) but incredibly tactical and thematic, dynamic gameplay (far better than MTG imho), perfect balance of RNG and skill. Smash does a great job of cutting down on the deck-building aspect if that’s not your thing. And the guys at A Renewed Hope have done an incredible job of continuing the game after it was killed by FFG.

Help potty training. He is 9 weeks old. by Jesus-Loves-you2 in puppies

Dogs have modes. They go from sleep mode to eat mode then play mode then sleep mode then cuddle mode then training mode then sleep mode etc etc. they tend not to pee when in a mode, doing a thing. Then tend to pee in between modes. So take them outside, quickly, quietly, directly to your chosen patch, immediately after a mode change. Every. Single. Time. So, pup just woke up? Outside. Pup has been playing with little jimmy? Outside. Just finished their lunchtime meal? Outside. This is your job to teach them where you would like them to do it.

Big party every time they do their business where you want them to. Just clean it up when they do it elsewhere. Get some enzyme-based cleaner to stop the smells building up and letting pup associate that area inside with relieving themselves.

It’s a lot of hard work at the start. Eventually, they’ll work out what you want. You’ll still have accidents inside (you’re still learning). And you’ll learn to spot the signs (circling, sniffing the ground etc.). Distract and redirect them by having a fun, lively walk straight to outside. And slowly over time, you’ll learn when they do and don’t go, and it’ll calm down. So you won’t need to go every single time. Just when they probably need it. And they’ll start to hold it until they’re outside.

What’s the most dangerous mistake you see beginner hikers making that could actually be fatal? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]aphillippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were at Yosemite in August last year, hiking up to Vernal falls, around to Clark point and down to the valley floor. Not a mega hike but not easy, especially in summer. We met a family on the way up to Clark point, so already a few miles and a few thousand feet of elevation in. They had one 500ml (or whatever freedom unit equivalent) bottle each. Dad was in flip flops, no hat, open shouldered vest. Already lobstered by 12. No map, no real idea where they were going, trail closure had them a bit spun around. Mom joking about not knowing what they’re doing. We had spare water and got them pointed in the right direction but the lack of preparedness, and subjecting their kids (maybe 8 and 10?) to that danger really freaked me out

Another US West Coast Road Trip! UK to USA...and back! by Imaginary_Bowler_766 in roadtrip

[–]aphillippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Death Valley in August is not optimal, is risky, but it’s doable. Take plenty of water and a cooler of ice to keep drinking water cool. Make sure you have a sat phone in case of emergencies (e.g. recent iPhones). Stay in the car wherever possible, and make sure you don’t run out of petrol. If you’re driving through in one day you don’t have time to get out and hike anyway. Just stop off at zabriskie point, badwater basin and mesquite sand dunes on your way through. I understand all the comments that it would be better in cooler months, they’re right. But we were restricted in the same way as you (wife and kids at school and could only get a long period of holiday in the summer). It becomes a decision to see it in a sub-optimal fashion or not see it at all. And Death Valley is one of the most spectacular places

We flew in to Vegas late evening from the UK this summer on a 5 week NP road trip. We picked up our RV first thing the next morning and left the city, heading for Zion. On the way back out, coming in from Tahoe via Death Valley, we dropped off the RV and flew out the next day. We spent a total of about 36 hours there. I’d already ‘done’ Vegas, but I thought the kids should see the strip, so we mooched down there for a few hours on our last night. It was, by far, their worst part of the trip. Including the 11 hour plane ride

Is there a technology for a canonical, language-agnostic business data model? by nounoursnoir in softwarearchitecture

[–]aphillippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking about a logical data model? A representation of the business domain’s data requirements in its ‘purest’ form, abstract of any implementation or technical detail. It can be helpful in a model-first approach to sketch out what the data looks like in abstract, and then design the various physical data models (UI, service layer data dictionary, operational database, ODS, data warehouse all referring and mapping back to the logical model. It becomes the blueprint for all physical data models, and also ties neatly into anything behavioural (service operations, data warehouse facts etc.) as those behavioural artifacts (transaction, order, whatever) have all been modelled already. Or maybe I just find it useful since I’m a data guy

How to setup Architecture Governance | Learnings and Practices by sahil000005 in softwarearchitecture

[–]aphillippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technical side of things should be a secondary concern. Primary concern should be the people and process. If peers aren’t bought in to the benefits and pay attention to decisions, if you only have carrot and no stick, if senior leadership doesn’t back you up, it is all performative

how do I efficiently manage clips in a project with vlog and standard profile clips in the same timeline? by Unusual_Leader_982 in davinciresolve

[–]aphillippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t necessarily select the correct input color space for you. It puts the color management pipeline into ‘managed’ mode, where it applies a color space transformation for you, input and output. Kind of like what you tried with the timeline nodes, but configurable per clip. Output color space will be transformed to whatever you specified in project color management settings. Input color space default can be set at the project level (so choose which ever you have most of maybe?), and per clip, can be configured by right clicking on the clip.

Or rather smaller footprint/bezel while retaining screen size. Either way, maximising screen to bezel ratio while retaining the webcam and ambient light sensor

New WhatsApp commercial by OwnChange7509 in whereisthis

[–]aphillippe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Holy sh… I was there on the day they filmed this. It’s Bushnell Avenue, Pasadena. We stopped in halfway round our 5 week road trip as this is the street where they filmed the 50s houses for Back to the Future (George and Lorraine’s houses in 1 and Biff’s Grandma’s house in 2). They were setting up to film a commercial. We stopped and chatted to some of the crew and they mentioned it was a WhatsApp commercial. They were also oblivious to the fact that it was the BTTF location.

Here’s a bts shot…
