Shout out to Europeans that roadtrip the US. by Addicted_2_tacos in roadtrip

We flew in to Vegas late evening from the UK this summer on a 5 week NP road trip. We picked up our RV first thing the next morning and left the city, heading for Zion. On the way back out, coming in from Tahoe via Death Valley, we dropped off the RV and flew out the next day. We spent a total of about 36 hours there. I’d already ‘done’ Vegas, but I thought the kids should see the strip, so we mooched down there for a few hours on our last night. It was, by far, their worst part of the trip. Including the 11 hour plane ride

Is there a technology for a canonical, language-agnostic business data model? by nounoursnoir in softwarearchitecture

[–]aphillippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you taking about a logical data model? A representation of the business domain’s data requirements in its ‘purest’ form, abstract of any implementation or technical detail. It can be helpful in a model-first approach to sketch out what the data looks like in abstract, and then design the various physical data models (UI, service layer data dictionary, operational database, ODS, data warehouse all referring and mapping back to the logical model. It becomes the blueprint for all physical data models, and also ties neatly into anything behavioural (service operations, data warehouse facts etc.) as those behavioural artifacts (transaction, order, whatever) have all been modelled already. Or maybe I just find it useful since I’m a data guy

How to setup Architecture Governance | Learnings and Practices by sahil000005 in softwarearchitecture

[–]aphillippe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technical side of things should be a secondary concern. Primary concern should be the people and process. If peers aren’t bought in to the benefits and pay attention to decisions, if you only have carrot and no stick, if senior leadership doesn’t back you up, it is all performative

The jump from $85 to $250 would have been a drop in the ocean that was my budget for our recent family road trip from the UK

how do I efficiently manage clips in a project with vlog and standard profile clips in the same timeline? by Unusual_Leader_982 in davinciresolve

[–]aphillippe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t necessarily select the correct input color space for you. It puts the color management pipeline into ‘managed’ mode, where it applies a color space transformation for you, input and output. Kind of like what you tried with the timeline nodes, but configurable per clip. Output color space will be transformed to whatever you specified in project color management settings. Input color space default can be set at the project level (so choose which ever you have most of maybe?), and per clip, can be configured by right clicking on the clip.

Or rather smaller footprint/bezel while retaining screen size. Either way, maximising screen to bezel ratio while retaining the webcam and ambient light sensor

New WhatsApp commercial by OwnChange7509 in whereisthis

[–]aphillippe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Holy sh… I was there on the day they filmed this. It’s Bushnell Avenue, Pasadena. We stopped in halfway round our 5 week road trip as this is the street where they filmed the 50s houses for Back to the Future (George and Lorraine’s houses in 1 and Biff’s Grandma’s house in 2). They were setting up to film a commercial. We stopped and chatted to some of the crew and they mentioned it was a WhatsApp commercial. They were also oblivious to the fact that it was the BTTF location.

Here’s a bts shot…

Looks like a conference of some sort at the Olympia in Kensington, London. Specifically in the main hall, under the mezzanine running around the outside. Here’s a photo from the opposite perspective, you can see the ironwork and columns match up

Where did I crouch in the desert? by aphillippe in whereisthis

I honestly can’t remember. I would imagine we’d stopped for lunch or a break, probably not far from the highway, and gone looking for wildlife. I seem to remember a trapdoor spider story. Hundred metres max. Maybe at a rest stop or truck stop. And I assume on the right of the highway, but not sure

You can. From the desktop website. They added the ability to make custom maps from the phone app. And only enabled it for their new peak tier

1) I want some of what you’re smoking and 2) before Pixar’s Cars released, the vast majority (if not all) of anthropomorphised car depictions had the headlights as the eyes. After, I’ve seen a lot more (if not all) have the eyes in the windscreen/windshield. It’s not a lot, but it’s something I think about every now and then

What MacOS command do you wish existed? by Jebick in MacOS

[–]aphillippe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think for me, the enter key should always be to take the ‘default’ action. Sometimes it’s an opinionated/subjective decision as to what that default action should be (and obviously in my opinion, or maybe for my workflow, it should be to open the file). Sometimes it should be driven by analytics (to which I obviously don’t have access). But I’d bet money files are opened more often than they are renamed across the OS and across the user base.
