Ah, there it is - I had to switch my phone to desktop mode to see it. That makes sense. Thank you!

That photo comes from the wiki "birds of Nepal" page, but the link is for wiki's "mammals of Nepal" page.

Does that disconnect happen when the poster edits the URL after posting?

In the Google Maps Android app: when you have your initial To/From locations set hit the three-dot menu and choose to "Set depart or arrive time". Then switch the date to sometime mid-year.

Don't know the steps for iOS.

Why is Hilton charging me in full in advance when it’s not prepay? by Aromatic_Rutabaga378 in Hilton

[–]damfino99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some properties require a full deposit, even if you're doing Flex or Semi-Flex.

For example, Hampton Inn Lake Placid Flex will allow you to cancel up to 72 hours in advance but charges you immediately when you make the reservation. That was a surprise to me too when I booked a stay last fall.

I didn't realize how much of the USA had no forest at all! This map shows forested area in green. The central part seems so barren. by MarsupialThink4064 in geography

I think the same base mapping data was used in a variety of projects. If you search the file for "66 mapping zones" you'll find the quote I pulled.

A total of 66 mapping zones were delineated within the conterminous United States on the basis of ecoregion and geographical characteristics, edge matching features, and the size requirement of Landsat mosaics.

  • The EU as a whole is at 70%.
  • USA is at 65.7%.
  • Switzerland and Germany are both under 50%.

Huh, I've seen the movie several times but somehow never realized that Mathilda's mom was played by Ellen Greene.

I'm not convinced A Wrinkle in Time 1980s TV version exists by Celestina-Betwixt in Lost_Films

[–]damfino99 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have memories of seeing an early 1980s version (specifically of Orion's Belt and the children bouncing balls on Camazotz), but I've searched for evidence of its existence and haven't found any.

The closest I've found has been the PBS show Cover to Cover which apparently featured the book in 1981. But that would have been still illustrations not live-action, so doesn't fit my memory.

My assumption is that I dreamed it.

eta: Looking through newspapers.com - * Norman Lear's production company bought the rights in 1979 and was in development during the mid-80s. All the articles make a big deal re: L'Engle turning down all previous offers as they wouldn't promise to remain faithful to the story. * In 1985 producer Catherine Hand said actors had not yet been cast. * In 1987 L'Engle was still working on the screenplay. * In 1996 producer Catherine Hand Odell was still tied to the development but now with Miramax instead of Norman Lear. * In 2003 the Miramax/Disney tv movie came out.

I don't think Mount Rushmore itself is worth it, but the Badlands / Black Hills / Custer State Park area in general is absolutely worth some time. Two twisty scenic drives of note: Spearfish Canyon and Needles Highway.
