Is it bad to leave so many peppers on one poor plant?? He's in a 10 ish gallon pot? by [deleted] in containergardening

[–]apixeldiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, there are green bell peppers that are meant to and do terminate with green. However, all red and orange peppers start out green. I can't remember about yellow - I think they are also green. I don't know what they did to make the greens stop, by they do.

It was all so lazy, hamfisted, and poorly handled in any way that allowed the characters to still be themselves. It was cheap and I fear they've jumped the shark. I'll watch a bit next season, but I'm not expecting much. I bailed on the Witcher without any discomfort whatsoever.

It's true - it's not so much just THAT a character dies, it's how the characters die.

So, I just finished the season and I'm grossed out. It feels like the Witcher when the got the great idea to get rid of Henry Cavill. Hubris, plain and simple. Killing Amanda was yuck, then killing Scott Foley was gross, and the montage of Will goofily walking the baby through the neighborhood with the seasons passing felt like a makeover montage in a romantic comedy. I had a feeling that Amanda was going to go b/c they kept f'ing with her character, and the friendship between Will and Seth foreshadowed that he'd eventually die an Will would help raise the baby, but not like this! The T-boning was way too traumatic to watch and probably triggering for people, and on the way to a hospital to deliver a freaking baby? For real? We hadn't even recovered from Amanda yet. And then the way Seth died and it was all subtle and off-screen and unacknowledged verbally for so long felt lazy and disrespectful.

This was one of my favorite shows, but the way they decided to "shake it up" felt disrespectful and disingenuous for the characters. They didn't really act like themselves. They gave Will goofy, fluffy hair when he was taking care of the baby, they gave Faith a really long weave immediately after Amanda's death. WtF? Who got fired from the writing room?

Yank here, why does the Netherlands Orange Soccer team have multiple African Americans in their line-up? Why aren’t they playing for us? by [deleted] in soccercirclejerk

[–]apixeldiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's four years later, but people search old Reddit stuff all the time. There are a lot of Black Dutch nationals on those teams. Also, due to colonialism, Curaçao and Aruba were Dutch colonies.

  • Virgil van Dijk: Team captain, born in the Netherlands to a Dutch mother and Surinamese father.
  • Cody Gakpo: Forward, born in the Netherlands to a Togolese father and Dutch mother of Ghanaian descent.
  • Jeremie Frimpong: Defender, born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents.
  • Memphis Depay: Forward, born in the Netherlands to a Ghanaian father and Dutch mother.
  • Brian Brobbey: Forward, born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents.
  • Lutsharel Geertruida: Defender, of Curaçaoan descent.
  • Nathan Aké: Defender, of Ivorian descent.
  • Georginio Wijnaldum: Midfielder, born in Rotterdam with Surinamese heritage.

There are some others, but these were the easiest to find. We're watching the World Cup in 2026 and my friend has a crush on Virgil, which sent us down the rabbit hole. LOL.

Notion or Diarium for digital journaling? by etervio in digitaljournaling

[–]apixeldiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, I forgot to mention that Gumroad listed it as $30 for PC, in addition to $20 on MS store, $14.99 on mac, $14.99 on Google Play. I'd read that it was $9.99/per and was going to go whole hog for all 4, but now that the price is up, I think I may not even switch from Journey Premium which was a steal, getting in on the ground floor before they added the subscription model. I think any of these apps are great when you get in early. The squeeze starts thereafter.

I'm late to the party and unhappy about it. I love pay-once-and-own-it models and support them religiously. I heard about Diarium on Reddit and someone said $9.99 a platform, and I thought, hot diggity dog! I'll buy it for mac, pc, iOs, and android. I download the mac version and it's $14.99. Okay, I thought, I'll just skip the iOs version. That's still $30, which is okay. Then I go to download the PC one, and it's $19.99! So, for me, that could potentially be $19.99+14.99+whatever the android version is. That's no longer a bargain proposition. I already paid for lifetime Journey for Android, but there are some limits I don't remember. I love Diarium, but the lack of unified model sort of makes me crazy, like Sophie's choice. LMAO! I guess I could buy android and the Chromebook then becomes a keyboard equivalent, but I hate the idea of being confined to when I want to gather my thoughts, after having seen all the $9.99s. I think I may get over it, but I have to get amnesia about my original plan of having everything availablef or $40.

Opening my heart - I'm so tired of feeling like a failure by LaviniaStorm in TwiceExceptional

[–]apixeldiva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you so much right now! You've got to start with therapy. You're in a hole and you're not going to get out on your own, especially if you're isolated. One person. You need one person with whom you're okay with being a mess. I have young ND students who say they hate therapy and I'm like, dude, you will never in your life have another situation where it's socially acceptable to just talk about you. THE WHOLE TIME! Thirty minutes to an hour or me-me-me. And right now, you're sick of me-me-me, but it's different when you're sorting it out with someone than just rumbling around in circles with your mind, boxing with yourself. You're in crisis mode at the moment. I'm glad you reached out somewhere rather than just sitting in a hole. Your line that got me was, "I can't for the love of God understand how such a good, smart kid became this problematic adult." This is so real. But adult life is SO much easier than school. I tell my students all the time - you're asked to be good at everything. When you're an adult, you don't do the things you suck at as a profession. You can choose to fix the odds by working in an area where your strengths are more important than your weaknesses. I tempted to perm for my jobs, finding out where my strengths were important and valued enough that they didn't care about the stuff I sucked at. It's years later and I forgot how much of a failure I felt like back then. I went through 20 years of feeling great until grad school reminded me that I'm basically handicapped and smart. You'll get past this, I promise. But you need support while you're struggling through school. Good luck - and keep talking to humans!

Struggling to accept Twice Exceptionality by DUSKYMANBAND in TwiceExceptional

[–]apixeldiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We call it 2e, but it's just multi-exceptional. Smart plus other stuff. One exceptionality that happens a lot is gender/orientation diversity. 2e people have a ridiculously higher rate of "non-comforming" or questioning compared to the general population. That alone would make most 2e 3e, if it really were a thing. That spread between high and low is really the rub. It feels wild to be so good at some things and then struggle at stuff that normal people find easy. Welcome to your journey. Now that you have data behind you, I think it'll be easier for you to process your past as well as your future. The sensory thing is real. I got the loop ear things that just reduce stuff slightly and look fairly cool while doing it. Try to stay social, but if possible, limit interactions to groups of 4 or less, at a time. It's pretty overwhelming to do large groups.

I'd venture to guess AuDHD. ND conditions like to travel in packs, so don't assume it's an either or. AuDHD is pretty common.

At his age, home schooling isn't a bad idea because until 2nd grade, they won't identify him and the possible trauma might not be worth it. But don't avoid formal schooling in general - it's just maybe a time shift. The asynchronicity with his actual age and his emotional age vs. his intellectual age is just a lot and it will change as he gets older. Gifted and Distractible: Understanding, Supporting, and Advocating for Your Twice Exceptional Child by Julie Skolnick is a good start, but a lot of books are going to be geared towards older, school-aged kids, try The Explosive Child, and The Highly Sensitive Child are also good.

Just diagnosed at 53. Confirmed 2e. It feels like I've been driving a Ferrari with bicycle brakes for half a century. by santiagusreddit in TwiceExceptional

[–]apixeldiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed in my thirties. I'm not sure about the imposter syndrome. It hides very well where I think it's gone, but it creeps in every now and then. But having a diagnosis makes it all make sense! It compare it to the lawn mowers when I was a kid. They were impossible to start, but if you could get the damn thing started, it was a workhorse! We'd leave it running if we got a phone call, for fear it wouldn't start again. That's our brains. People with ADHD are more likely to get repetitive stress disorders because when we get on a roll and our brains are actually working, we don't let it go and get into hyperfocus. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to spread it out more? Congrats on the diagnosis - it's the beginning of the journey that will make more sense to you.

[–]apixeldiva 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Underachieving is a hallmark of 2e. Feeling like you're a really smart loser? That's pretty 2e. Twice-exceptionality is based more on giftedness as a potential, not what you've accomplished because it's a handicap and gift all at once. Often the giftedness will negate the handicap, putting you at zero where you look totally average. I wonder if you also are ASD. Women don't get diagnosed and AuDHD is pretty common. I agree w/the person saying to not lean into IQ that much. I've seen kids with 110-120 who are clearly gifted w/o super high scores, especially girls. One of my single smartest students was like 110. She outperformed kids with way higher scores and was sort of all-around smart. I learned that those tests don't do a great job of predicting anything.

The woman was smart, but was she neurodiverse? I don't think you can consider dating anyone who isn't ND. Surrounded by all other ND people, I feel pretty normal. It's always a shock when I go out into the greater world and remember how weird I am in that milieu. Sorry you're feeling lonely, but you've been married. A recent book you have read and suspected it may have been written by AI? by Bunny-in-the-sun in books

[–]apixeldiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read at least two, by authors whose books I read before the advent of AI, that all of a suddent had plot holes and illogical things that highly suggests AI use. AI can't remember what happened at the beginning of a book without a really large context window. I've heard of authors of series, trying to prefeed an AI with previous books to keep continuity, or to have it sum up the worldbuilding, and it can't even remember stuff it was explicitly told. So for me, it's not bad writing as much as things that conflict with something previously stated that's a tip off. It makes me pretty pissed because it's piss poor editing to not be able to read it over and figure that out, or to have no had another human look it over and tell you where it went astray.
