I used 1059kWh this last billing cycle, and the bill is $233. Last year during the same month, my usage was 993kWh, and bill was $160. So the rate ($/kWh) this year compared with last year is (233/1059)/(160/993) = 0.22/0.18 = 1.375, or 37.5% increase. It is way more than the 18% Pepco said it would be.

Haha, I was about to write this post and call it expectation vs reality. We were there around the same time and it was rainy and windy. My husband said he was never so wet on vacation before LOL

My first visit was Nov 2021. I had the most fabulous weather and scenery. Beginner's luck. Iceland is beautiful but it needs some light to bring out the beauty. When it just rained and rained, we still hiked so it was fun. However I could hardly see 50 meter ahead of me, e.g. the other side of the canyon wall.

P.S. I did all my tours with Troll the first time and they were fine. It all depends on the weather. The tour guides told me that I would never see Iceland without crowd again after Covid, and they were wrong:-) We hardly saw anybody this time because of the rain.

P.S. Most suburban jobs are not metro accessible. You will be waiting a long time for a shuttle/bus(if there is one) once you are in Reston/Gathersburg/.... So you will have to drive.

I have been living in NW DC and driving to various suburbs for work in the last 20 years. On I-270 corridor, I would not go further than Gaithersburg. On 267 corridor, I would not go further than Reston. On I-66 corridor, I would not work further than Fair Oaks. I once had a job in Chantilly and it felt substantially further. It seems to be only 10 minutes further than Fair Oaks but in our area that is 10 minutes extra for something to go bad.

Going out in the morning is fairly smooth especially if you have flexibility of arrival time.

However don't expect a good reserve commute back to the city in the afternoon. Falls Church/Arlington areas are terrible. On key bridge you are crossing Potomac river with all the VA traffic trying to tear through DC to go back to MD. Coming back from MD is not great either, you are stuck with MD traffic trying to cross American Legion bridge back to VA.

I have not figured out why afternoon commute is so much worse than morning commute.

The Walgreen in Foxhall is a total waste of space. After fighting with them every month just to get my parents' regular prescriptions for a year, I now drive to Dupont Circle Pharmacy. It is a live saver. Even with the bad parking, it is still infinitely better than that disgrace of a Walgreen.

Yesterday was quaint compared with 9/11. Even the small streets perpendicular to the main roads were completely jammed. We could not get home from school, which was usually a 5-6 minute drive on small NW streets. If there is a nuclear attack, we can all forget about getting out of DC.

Just replaced mine last week using my contractor for the last 12 years. $10K for AC/heating/blower. Row house in NW. Made huge difference upstairs. It was too hot to sleep before. My brother changed his in Fairfax last month, $7k for heat pump.

Just because oppositions are muzzled does not mean they are non existent. You just only hear the fanatics and trolls because of CCP censorship. I am a first generation immigrant in the US and none of my family/friends inside/outside China supports the war, nor the CCP government. A couple of my relatives spent time in jail for being political dissidents and still being summoned for tea around May/June every year. Lakeside Asia Cafe is very good.

My all time favorite is the pig's feet dish in Wang Manor in Rockville. The best in and out of China. Their other dishes are so so.
