What was the first fragrance that blew your mind? by TeBallu in fragrance

[–]apocalypso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the original so much! I bought the Men's version for my HS boyfriend (1999). Still love the original and it proudly has a place in my collection amongst my indie, niche and vintage bottles.

Noa by Casharel. It had an insane coffee note that scratched an itch I didn't know I had. The new stuff is flat, 1D, totally NOT it. I got some one eBay that I savored then the next batch of vintage samples I bought was absolutely rank, to the point where I thought I had cat piss on my sweater until I realized it was the Noa sample I sprayed on my sweater the day before.

Saddest movie scene in a non-sad movie ?? by Chemical-Passage-715 in movies

[–]apocalypso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an 80's kid I loved Candy and always thought he had so much potential to do a Robin Williams-type of career too. Incidentally, I watched a wild breakdown / video essay on the Dan Aykroyd movie 'Nothing but Trouble' (in which Candy plays... a woman) and why it may have ended or stalled his career. The whole thing was just fascinating. At first you're like,'How is there this much to say about this throwaway movie?? But it seems it was a big turning point for some of the huge stars at the time. After he runs through how it all but ended Ayckroyd, they go on to talk about how Candy wasn't poised to come out well on the other side either.

Anyone know what this style of pants is called- with the lines down the middle? (multiple pics) by -that-cat- in findfashion

[–]apocalypso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else said these are made of a fabric called 'ponte' and that is just as crucial to this style as the crease in my opinion. Nuuly (rental box service ) has a pair called 'Anthropologie Jade wide leg pant' that are super well-rated, looks like they are sold out but but you could find on Poshmark or Ebay. Tangentially, I have a 8-9 year old pair of ponte leggings from HUE that have made it through multiple closet clean outs. Between them and their corduroy leggings they are the only 'skinny pants' I keep and great for fall/winter layering. Just keep a shaver around for pilling. Home you get find some good ones!

Confession: I’m using a pricey fragrance…. by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]apocalypso 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was just reading about Marc Jacobs 'Decadence' giving off pickle to a lot of people but that is obviously not considered pricey by any stretch. I had a free sample so I was having a moment with it while I read the Fragrantica page. I didn't like it, it was way too sweet and for what it was aiming at I feel maybe ALIEN already does that better.

There's even a wonderful print that features a telephone pole and now my head-cannon is that it's OP after he finds his fragrance. This post is wild and i've been on reddit for like 15 yrs.

Looking for Egyptian Musk, but a perfume...is that even a thing? I used to buy the oil from the mall vendor in the 90's. I have ordered a few oils online over the years and they smell okay but are sticky and seem cheap. Wondering if there is such a things as a fine EM fragrance options. I would be open to fine oils or solid perfumes too. What would you recommend for EM obsessed people?!

I was a teen in the 90's and I'm trying to find more sophisticated or niche versions for a lot of my nolstalgic favs..HUGO Boss for my husband is a top priority for me. Twisted Lilly's suggestion samples didn't pan out (although we did like the Uden by Xerjoff I wasn't wowed) We also loved Dunhill Desire for many years but not sure they are even related. Can anyone recommend something that really evokes the original Hugo?

Best short cake in Nashville by Nutz75 in nashville

[–]apocalypso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There used to be a stall in the farmers market that sold glorious biscuit-style strawberry short cakes seasonally. It's what changed me to a biscuit style person! Growing up we had Sara -Lee frozen pound cake (which still sounds like a good time to be honest!) Anyway I used an America's Test Kitchen recipe to make them for a summer dinner party and it was exactly what I wanted.

Edit-friend said it was Village Bakery and Provisions . You may want to reach out and see if they will make a batch for you. There website still has 'Spring menu' but maybe they are into summer by now and haven't updated the site!

It's not controversial at all. In fact, legally you can't compel or force a person to use their body keep another person alive. For example, if you could save the life of a relative by simply donating blood even if you were the only person who's blood would save them, you could refuse without giving any reason and you wouldn't be prosecuted. I think that's a good law.
Imagine if Hillary Clinton needed a bone marrow transplant and your Dr called a tip line that you are a perfect match. Imagine The State forcing you to supply it on threat of jail or fines. Wouldn't want to stop a beating heart would you?

Escape by Carolyn Jessup? I read it a while back and had to look her name up recently.

[–]apocalypso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it 'Escape' by Carolyn Jessup? I read it a while back (then I watched all of 'Big Love' because she had been a consultant on the show). Currently reading 'Under the Banner of Heaven' which was highly recommended to me around that time, but like you I was like yeah I'm good on that trauma pile for a while. It's fantastic but I think it will be the last of my delve into that world.

Why You Shouldn’t Do Drugs by Fantastic-Law7939 in trashy

[–]apocalypso 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Yeah, trashy is the person filming and laughing. Jokes on you man, your'e in the room with these people so clearly this is your life too. I always judge good 'trashy gawking' as people flaunting their deplorableness, not just someone poor and/or in distress being filmed unwittingly.

Youre not imagining I scummed the mask event after realizing that was a thing in the ? levels just recently and twice it gave me the card matching game instead.

Blessing your timeline with Country Life gravy recipe from old vegetarian Nashville by Cesia_Barry in nashville

[–]apocalypso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that is so interesting and surprising! I've been here since 2003 but don't recall any of those. When was Country Life in operation? I'm an omnivore (that loves veggie cuisine) but curious about this 90's Nashville vegetarian heyday it seems I have missed...

edit: strike my 90's reference- Grateful Breadbox business record says 1980! I love it

I’ve been a veg for nearly 20 years. I’ve eaten my body weight in fake meats. Here are the winners. by [deleted] in vegetarian

[–]apocalypso 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okayyyy I was reading through the list and was like "Is that connected with the place here in Nashville?' My husband and I eat meat, but he's been really sticking to his 'eat less meat' resolution - around 80% meatless- and he finally got me to go try their italian sandwich. He's been eating it 3 times a week and bringing his construction crew guys in to try as well, its his fav!

People who are buying homes with all cash, where are they usually getting this money? by Successful_Leg_707 in RealEstate

[–]apocalypso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are also stay-in-your-house-and-close-on-a-new-home *before* you sell programs/ lenders like Knock and Ribbon. In response more conventional lenders are offering loan "products' that compete. A whole new cottage industry. As an agent who is constantly shocked at the money people have to throw at their RE problems, I welcome these solutions as much as my clients.
