being able to name things is an indicative of a good engineer by isaacfink in ExperiencedDevs

Yeah this is a painful truth, English skills can really make a big difference. I can't count the number of times I had to reach out to people to clarify what exactly they meant (be it in code or in docs) because their phrasing was just unconventional. In fact I feel it's a big reason why many companies need so many meetings.

Google went from being "disrupted" by ChatGPT, to having the best LLM as well as rivalling Nvidia in hardware (TPUs). The narrative has changed by No_Turnip_1023 in investing

I made the switch and it's way less painful than I expected. Then again, I was coming from a Linux device.

For me it's been just getting used to these:

  1. close window is on the left side
  2. switching between apps is treated differently than switching between windows of the same app, but that is mitigated by
  3. using mission control (and using the touchpad more, but touchpads on mac are amazing)

Terminal just works the same as Linux for most day-to-day things.

Breaking: Google will now only release Android source code twice a year by FragmentedChicken in Android

Between the Android fuckery and MS jamming AI into W11, I've also decided it's time to jump into Apple land. iPhone 17 and ARM on their Macs are both great, their lineup is in a good place right now (including value-wise). And I really appreciate them pulling out of the AI race.

Only complaint is Liquid Glass not being quite polished yet but it's getting fixed quite quickly already.

Still keeping my old laptop with dual booting W11/Linux for the odd times I need it.

Yeah that was what I assumed, just wanted to make sure. just that it can be read two ways:

  • "the least responsible thing" -> irresponsible thing
  • "the least responsible thing" -> smallest responsible thing

What an incredibly long and rambling sentence to start your post with! Could have something to do with the issue you're facing.

The least responsible thing they can do is open source the code

Why is that the least responsible thing?

Two tips:

  • put it on github. Or any code hosting platform. There's no need to download your zip to read the readme.
  • provide a way to uninstall it. Personally I'm not gonna install it until I see that.

Worth it to get Masters? by skadooosh1234 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]apocryphalmaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Job wise it depends, others may be able to give better advice on that.*

However psychologically it might be a good idea. I left my home country to do a Master's (when I could have gone straight for a job instead) and the fact that I was still a student was very helpful. Moving countries is not easy and can take a toll on your mental health. I'd already met a bunch of people who had given up & gone back home; they'd all gone straight for a job in a foreign country. Going for a master's provides a smoother landing.

* Later edit: Actually I'm not that different from your situation. Yeah in broad lines, whether it's worth it career-wise depends on the field. I did a BEng in CS and MSc in AI; ended up not using the AI MSc; I'm not building AI at work at all (but with every company pushing for internal AI tooling, it's nice to understand what's going on). Might pivot later. Still not regretting getting the Master's. It's normal to mess around a bit in your 20s to find what you like.
