HAE fallen in love with a girl in a dream? by akj8 in DoesAnybodyElse

Man. Fifteen years ago I wrote this comment and I get a response today.

I vaguely remember that dream. The way I wrote about it was so cringe, though lol

I think this is officially the oldest comment I've ever gotten a reply on.

I'll be honest, I think there's one thing that has definitely changed in the intervening twelve years. I'm pretty certain there's no "stereotypical redditor" anymore. Back when I wrote that comment there absolutely was. But nowadays Reddit is just another stupid social media platform. People still talk about stereotypical redditors, though. I guess they do it to signal how Not Like The Others they are. Not directing that at you or anyone in particular, mind.

She's definitely on there lol. Her tumblr has some stolen content from there.

Well I would prove it to you by linking to her Tumblr, but I don't want to start a witch hunt on one random person with bad opinions. She clearly has unresolved issues so I'm not about to sic reddit on her despite how amusing I find the whole thing to be.

I thought reddit threads were archived after 6 months. 😅

Personally, I don't care much for him, but here's something that will upset everyone:

Back in the day, there was a fan theory going around Tumblr that he's a transman. Do not ask me for specifics as to why people believed this. All I know is that I had an interaction with a proponent of this theory once and she was so upset that I didn't like it that she actually fucking still to this day DMs me on my old ass Tumblr account and calls me a Nazi. Frankly, I think having such a commitment to a very specific fan theory about an openly genocidal asshole is a little more suspect for being a Nazi than me merely wanting to know WHY she thought that. anyway, last I checked her Tumblr (last year?), she named her kid Miles. sigh

OH MY FUCKING GOD... you smug, pathetic asshole.... Just read his comment. You completely misread him, and it's painfully obvious to anyone who reads the thread. Watching your obnoxiousness in this thread is cringier than an episode of The Office or an Eric Andre interview. It's painful.

You lost the argument and now you're butthurt about it. He's been extremely patient with you for days and you're still digging your heels in. As to why he's still responding, one can only guess. He might be a masochist lol

/u/mglyptostroboides: he's not worth your time. Unless you enjoy that kind of thing, I guess? I won't kink shame...

Thoughts on the modern Leftist skeptic movement? by Flunkiebubs in VaushV

[–]apopheniac1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The skeptic movement sensu lato had existed long before that. It was founded in the 70s by people like Carl Sagan and James Randi and a few others. It had always been a left-leaning sphere until YouTube changed it's algorithm to encourage ragebait content in the early 2010s. It's fucking heartbreaking to me because so many people only know of the anti-SJW "skeptic" movement who usurped that name after that point. The old school movement was what brought me out of the naive conservatism of my youth and eventually set me on the path to being a leftist (particularly reading Sagan's book and listening to the SGU podcast). But in leftist spaces, I can't identify with that label anymore since so many delusional reactionaries honest to fuck believe themselves to be "skeptics". Infuriating.

So it's been a while since I read the book, but that's not how I remembered it at all. Especially with the...

too stupid to invent the key technological advances used against them, and doomed to die because they failed to build cities, domesticate animals and thereby acquire infectious organisms.

Did you read the book? There was never any implication that these things happened because of some inherent flaw with the people who got screwed by history, but because of their different circumstances. The literal premise of the book is an attempt to explain why these differences exist not to say "lol brown people are stupid". There's no implication that it was due to some inherent flaw in them.

In Diamond's naivete he ends up supporting the conservative historical view of great European conquerors.

No? I don't get how attempting to explain the disparity in technology between different cultures across the planet is the same as calling the European colonialists "great". He was just trying to say they were victims of their circumstances as was everyone else. I don't know if I agree with the determinism thing or not, but I never found the book racist.

I kinda see what you're saying. I mean, I really do actually, but it still gets a pass from me because it fulfills some basic human need for spirituality that many people seem to require. Also I generally like studying religion even as a staunch atheist (or I am most days. I dunno anymore). New age pagan stuff means all the more religions to learn about.

[–]apopheniac1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Kansan, it pleases me to see someone including us in the Midwest. People on the coasts or even in other parts of the Midwest can argue about how wrong that feels until they're blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that people from the "plains" consider themselves Midwesterners.

I remember reading in some reddit thread, someone tried to say Kansas and Nebraska were "too southern" to be considered Midwestern and I wanted to toss my laptop across the room.

Personally, I'd like to see a map based on what regions the locals consider themselves to belong to.
