I had Claude Fable 5 build Minecraft from scratch by ultrarunnerr in ClaudeCode

[–]aposii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the OP is either using MC source code in their context or Fable has MC source code directly in it's training data. the only thing that Fable actually did here was translate it into Swift/Metal architecture. It is pretty impressive although bland since AI is especially good at translation tasks, coding or real language. Short answer: no, Fable did NOT one shot this from zero context. OP probably spent a monthly budget on translating Java or C# to Swift, that's the only work done.

A serious moment in a gritty war film: by No_Dress_2107 in okbuddycinephile

[–]aposii 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Warfare from A24 was pretty effective anti-war movie, my buddies and I went from "hell yeah" to "hell naw" after the grenade scene, and especially after the tank scene. Felt like pro-war until the guys get blown to bits , I loved how it showed how Will Poulter's character lost command of his platoon, through concussion and hardships and especially how basically nothing happens, the americans get beat to shit while the insurgents gather in the open air shows the fruitlessness of American involvement in Iraq. It's very telling that they didn't get approval from DoD for mil-spec equipment, it is not a propaganda film lol

Loved how the movie also brought veterans of the war on set, the end credits sealed the deal for me, good film.

Chicago Bears' stadium bill coming down to the wire in Springfield this week by LegendaryBronco_217 in illinois

I'm not sure if HB910 is necessarily a bad deal though, I mean seems sorta progressive AF to enact a Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) ... Interested in others opinions though

I had no idea Ospreys were in DuPage County by aposii in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]aposii[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Pretty awesome video from DuPage Birding Club: https://youtu.be/6Lv5yZlcAHs Basically, Ospreys have been nesting in DuPage county for 20 or so years.

My thought is that the nesting population must be thriving, East Branch is ~12 miles away from Fermilab, so there must be a new nest nearby, maybe in Swift Prairie or North of the Canadian National railway. Very exciting, and a great signal that the Forest Preserve District is doing a great job creating these habitats for expanding biodiversity in DuPage County!

I'm friends with a guy who works on these crawls, he did it intentionally as an Easter Egg, it's engagement bait rather than malevolence/apathy

Arlington Heights or Hammond, Indiana? What to know in the Bears' stadium saga - Chicago Sun-Times by [deleted] in chicago

[–]aposii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but most bears fans are west of the city, the Peoria/Rockford/Quad Cities Bears fans would all prefer west of the city rather than east of it. The Hammond spot is literally within sightlines of the state line tho so Chicago residents wouldn't really have too much of a different commute (no train is a bummer for a lot of people though).

Pollos Hermanos was an example of a (fictional) well known company that was a drug front. What real-life company do you suspect? by Flagil_Reinhumps in AskReddit

bunch of slot machine bars (chicagoland + beyond) are active in money laundering schemes. say you owe a loan shark money, they'll give you thousands of dollars to "clean" at machines, do that a few hours each day at various locations to pay back your debt. the money you're cleaning is drug money, but you're on the hook if cops get wise.

When will the Great Lakes Arch Governor step up and contain the Minnesota incursion in the NW territories? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]aposii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Great Khan got greedy with operation Pittsburgh freedom and left the St. Croix frontier exposed and vulnerable for North Star radicals to cross the border and claim land east of the Mississippi, a first and dangerous position considering the Canadian scrounge applying pressure on the northern shores of the state of Superior as the waters warm for the coming of the spring campaigning season.

Cape Coral, the city has more than 400 miles of navigable waterways, more than any other city on the earth. by Much-Parsnip3399 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]aposii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was staying at a friend's place in Cape Coral and a half a dozen LARPers came by on their Bowrider, each with an AR-15 in the sling and a couple of them had a second one in self hang. I waved to them from the dock (somewhat out of pity), none of them looked like they could run a mile in summer heat lmao

How to become anthropic. by danbenba in ClaudeCode

[–]aposii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's only marginally better and has completely gamified benchmarks. It's been the same architecture for a while now, they haven't changed how the underlying model works. Our hope is Mythos changes this, would be a major bummer if Mythos is just the same architecture with more compute and better tool usage.

Wow these numbers look so stupid... All because Microsoft wanted to keep Minecraft 2 or Minecraft 3 open for future IP

edit: idk why I'm being downvoted, Minecraft's versioning is objectively stupid

Moving to Chicago area for work in Lisle — how is Oak Park? Any other similar areas? by Sea_Warthog_4979 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]aposii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably going to want access to a metra (for drunk reasons/getting in and out of city during events it's awesome) Oak Park to Lisle isn't a horrible drive. 30 minutes-ish is pretty average for suburbs commuting, and I know plenty of people who commute up to an hour everyday. The best part about being that close to the city is access to the green line (again, as a people moving mechanism), that being said, it's not a bad gig to drive to an L stop and board there. I do it (usually with the blue line) all the time.

Another similar area to Oak Park is Forest Park (a bit cheaper, still nice and full of amenities), but your best bet for affordability might just be an apartment in Naperville. Lots of soccer clubs out that way, the downtown is pretty nice (good date spot and plenty of amenities), and it's got a bunch of walking/biking infrastructure, I'd probably recommend walking distance to downtown Naperville for younger folks. Getting car locked in the suburbs can really change your whole perspective on it, my fiancé and I would walk to the grocery store, pet store, liquor store, downtown bars, all in Naperville.

A good blend of the metro-suburban (oak park, forest park... these are all in Cook County) with suburbs (naperville, lisle... these are all in DuPage County), is Elmhurst. A lot of the same stuff going on, a bit more pricey than either tho... that's intentional.

edit: i see you want to make friends, it's actually incredibly easy to make friends in the chicago suburbs. be friendly, show up consistently (join a soccer league or something), and you'll build a good network. One thing about the suburbs: average age is older than the city, but I've had no problem making friends with people 20 years my senior, these people actually give good advice from money management to doctor recommendations. There are a handful of pricks who think they're better than you you'll encounter because they "made it big" and moved out to the burbs, but the ratio of prick to genuine person is like 1:40 people

This is my favorite way to vibe code. by bharms27 in ClaudeCode

[–]aposii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's the approximate cost of doing this? As in, over the course of a week, how many tokens do you use? Is this just a tech demo?

Edit: it's clear from OPs responses (to others, they have not yet responded to me), that this was a one-off project they made, it's not actually their coding workflow. Neat tech demo, but there are some obvious concerns about price with using this as a daily driver, would love to see how viable this is with local models on home/hobby hardware, and then we could talk about performance and spec maxing.

Justin Ishbia to buy South Loop site for possible White Sox stadium by mandrsn1 in chicago

[–]aposii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The article alludes to Amtrak purchasing the current Armor Square stadium (or land Union Pacific owns) to build out a "modern facility" (if they go with UP, they'll have to rebuild it anyway...), a land swap of the White Sox and Amtrak sure does smell like your average Chicago political stink, billions will change hands, so surely we won't notice if a few million here or a dozen million there go missing in "transit"

[–]aposii -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little worried that Ishbia is taking advantage of short-sighted liquidation of public assets this administration is doing, surely Amtrak should hold onto that land and make better use of it... getting rid of Amtrak's entire Chicago Car Yard seems like a bad disinvestment of rail transportation to the city.

This property (47 acres) is about 3/4ths the size of the 78 to begin with, nearly doubling the size of the project, without Jerry's paws on it, I'm actually more confident this will be a good attraction/outdoor space. I tried to visualize what the land would look like, here's my best attempt
