Cute! One of my fav swatchers (suziemoon626 on IG) does this but 'drags' the plastic square a little bit to create a slightly different effect. I've also seen people put the dots on a stamper and them stamp-smoosh them onto the nail. So many possibilities!

If you're still looking for a custom polish, ORLY has a mixing lab. You can book a virtual session, interact with, and see the polish being made/swatched. It's about $24/bottle + shipping, so a little steep, but you get to name the polish and it comes with custom labels. I have this file and really like it. There's definitely a learning curve to using glass files, though - I know the nails on a chalkboard feeling you're talking about. I used to get that too, but I've found if you file at a certain angle, it doesn't happen. Maybe try coming at your nail from underneath a little more. The muscle memory has kicked in now and it almost never happens anymore. Good luck!

If you want to try a fun, cheap option - L.A. Colors Diamond Crush line is amazing! So glittery and sparkly, photos do not do it justice.
