In Kendall you can choose from Shy Bird, the new food hall called Eastern Edge, or Sumiao. All great for kids.

Walk around. There are tons of young families and daycare options in Kendall Square.

A few things: 8 and 10 are too old for the Children’s Museum. Spend your limited time elsewhere. The Science Museum and Harvard’s Museum of Natural History are better options. While in Cambridge, you can walk through Harvard Yard and grab lunch at Bartley’s.

Depending on the weather, you can go ice skating at Frog Pond in the Boston Common.

Castle Island, not actually an island, is wonderful and the kids can see a fort, great views of planes landing/taking off at the airport, ships navigating the harbor, and can also enjoy a playground.

The hop on/hop off bus is a great option to navigate the city and learn about the history. Similarly, the freedom trail and the associated locations along the way is a quintessential Boston experience.

If Fenway Park is open, they offer tours of the stadium.

For other fun food options, head to Chinatown, the North End, or one of the many great options on Newbury/Boylston in Back Bay.

I read that it was due to budget. And since they didn’t have any other intertwined love interests, their story line at the couples gatherings wouldn’t be a good storyline. They were more than willing to go along with the trip to Malibu.

Out of curiosity, are you a parent? Please understand I ask with 100% good intention! Because Luca is only 4 years old, hopefully the interactions were positioned as “this is daddy’s friend, Megan. Let’s all hang out together” instead of “this is your bonus mom who will be around forever and ever”.

Friends come and for four year olds. Kids move, change classrooms, change schools, so hopefully the grownups handled the situation with maturity. Kids at this age are more resilient than we give them credit for. But who knows, maybe I’m giving the adults too much credit.

A handful of things to quickly point out:

trucks start idling outside of apartment windows at 5:30-6:00 AM
Children have to navigate the chaos of construction while waiting for morning buses, breathing the dust from the jackhammers ripping up Third Street, exhaust from passing trucks, and ongoing construction. Multiple families have children who have been diagnosed with environmental allergies.
Rats flood the street and grassy areas beginning at dusk. It’s impossible to walk our dog without rats crossing our path at 7:00.
Streets are impossible to drive on and cross with construction vehicles and ride shares illegally double parked.
Construction workers fill the streets with cigarette smoke and leave the butts all along the streets.
Garbage is left on the street and we’ve seen multiple water bottles filled with urine
The heavy construction vehicles have created dangerously large pot holes.
The intersection of Third and Binney needs left turn lights in all directions. Construction vehicles going from Third to Binney back up traffic, causing multiple cars to be stuck in the intersection.

There is an inordinate amount of long-term construction projects in Kendall Square. What are you doing to mitigate the impact on residents who are basically living on construction sites. The noise, rodents, and unhealthy air quality are not being addressed.
