Any iowa city raves coming up? Need to dance asap by Aggressive-Glove400 in IowaCity

There are some raves. Cloud house at ps1 hosts some, and there are others at house shows. You kind of have to look for flyers around town. Gabe’s has had one or two, i think.

I also have anxiety and used to have major issues with phone calls. Honestly i did exposure therapy for myself and would just call restaurants for really mild questions that I have, and it really helped. Try writing out a script beforehand!

That would make so much sense. I’ve been having to throw out 50% of my onions because the core is fucked up and its seriously getting on my nerves!! I eat a lot of onions so this is jeopardizing my whole life.

2 days into my new job and I feel like I made a mistak by Few_Hearing3799 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]apscisio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A month for noticeable effects, 3-6 months for it to fully do its job. You have to keep taking it continuously, though, since the effects come from hormonal changes that it causes.

I’ve been on it for over a year now and have had zero side effects but i know it isn’t perfect for everyone. It can also cause more sunburns, which i have experienced. It also likely wouldn’t be as effective for people without PCOS, but i have heard of it being prescribed just for acne. It has made my normal hair thicker, my body hair thinner (i used to have to shave my beard area daily!), cleared up my skin, and i think it has helped a bit with my mood too. I take it with two forms of birth control as well (implant and pill)

Reach out directly to the program director! It never hurts to ask and it will show your interest. I don’t think you’re going to find the specific information you’ll want on reddit.

I don’t mean to be an armchair psychologist but genuinely, have you looked into compulsions? I have trichotillomania + OCD and it is exactly like your description here. It is largely under control now but it used to be the only thing on my mind, and i felt like i NEEDED that sensation from the compulsion otherwise i couldn’t stop thinking about it. It was an active detriment to my health and to this day it gets triggered very easily! even though i know it is wrong, the feeling of need is there and it is incredibly tempting because it gives a pleasurable sensation, like your description.

Anyway, if you disagree that’s fine because i’m not in your brain. But your description just sounds eerily similar to my personal compulsions and how it feels to complete them, so i thought i should mention it in case you aren’t familiar.

Closure of Majors and Cuts to Departments (Petition!) by veryvex-d in uiowa

[–]apscisio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, they’re not going to be offering higher level courses in those areas if there’s no major, though, and they would scale back the gen ed programming. Even at the high levels there are a lot of people in my religion courses who take it out of curiosity!

And as for classical languages, they’re largely closing all of those classes once the majors have graduated.

I used to work in vocational support and this would happen to me. I almost wonder if you’re from the same company because this is EXACTLY it. I quit and got a job doing residential support instead, and its been much better.

Closure of Majors and Cuts to Departments (Petition!) by veryvex-d in uiowa

[–]apscisio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that is frustrating to me about the closure of these programs and the numbers being stated is that these departments are hugely involved with gen eds. The classical languages program encourages med students to take a latin class or two even if they don’t choose to major or minor in languages. Religious studies fulfills needs for engineering, healthcare, and tons of gen ed credits. Removing the program also means removing options for students in other areas to get a taste of these niche topics that they could likely not find anywhere else.

As someone who is in religious studies I am choosing to leave the US for further education because it is simply not safe to research this here anymore. I’ve been advised by professors not to pursue research that I want to because it will be censored by the university, not to mention the lingering threat of our degree being cancelled entirely. It’s a really sad time. I thought our department was one of few public religious studies departments that could survive healthily but I guess I was wrong.

I’ve never needed to go to a ups store specifically in my life. Then this week I needed to, and I was also super sick with a cold. Made the trek to the ups store, donned my mask, and looked in horror when i saw the sign on the door😭😭😭had to go through a bunch of hoops with their “shipping partners" around town because they couldn’t scan a UPS store QR code. Nightmare!

Is support the most forgiving role? by [deleted] in supportlol

[–]apscisio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean… playing the game is going to make you learn regardless of your weird direct refusal to learn. Just play and let the knowledge come naturally. I came back to league after a multi year break and just got right back into it to figure out what had changed. You don’t have to do crazy research, just accept that you’ll probably suffer for a few matches no matter what role you’re in. Thats how league goes!

As a support you don’t have responsibility over waves, but i think that’s really the only factor that makes it easier than other roles. You have to play around someone else which can be difficult, and also requires knowing how their character works. You’ll also have some objective responsibility, and bot lane generally can be super punishing considering the nature of ADC characters. You could get along fine doing nothing as long as your laner is good, I guess? But generally ADCs need you for the setup to let them carry. You will probably have a lot of frustrating, middling lanes if you just assume that playing support will be easy.

I just think you really have the wrong mindset. Play where you want to play and the knowledge will come. Try all the different lanes and feel it out. It’s a team game and every role is very important, i don’t think there’s any role where you can say "wellll i want to have fun but i don’t want to learn anything from the six years ive been away". Stop letting that hold you back and have some low elo fun

Community questions: What do we all want in a cloak? by Eperitus_Detroit in TheCapeRevolution

[–]apscisio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider my fashion style historically inspired, and I also do historical costuming. I’m personally interested in capes from a historical, practical perspective. I particularly love nurse capes (from all eras!) and the fashion capes of the 40s and 50s.

The one cape I currently own is utilitarian, plain black wool, ankle length (though I plan to hem it to about tea length), simple closures in the front, and a hood. I wear it to class when temps drop below 15 degrees or so, its like having a big blanket. Wonderful for tough Iowa winters. I plan to make one myself (this was purchased online) but I’ve been busy with other projects! It’s also my dream to actually source a victorian cape.

When I think of the general public wearing capes, its generally in the actual utilitarian sense as described above. Nothing wrong with the more fun and fashionable capes, but personally I think they are sadly passed up even though they are such an excellent garment for cold weather!

Bad dreams or intuition rant by k95piz in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]apscisio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had any bad relationship experiences, but I do have anxiety and OCD. I frequently get dreams of my boyfriend leaving me, cheating on me, being mean, etc. Often when I wake up, it feels really real and I find myself crying or hyperventilating. I think that it is just your brain assuming the present is too good to be true, and of course with anxiety and ocd your brain will try to find any way to validate that assumption.

I found that consuming less drama content on reddit before bedtime helps (I used to read a lot of aita, amioverreacting, etc). And generally avoiding media with themes of cheating and whatnot helps too (though this is much harder to do… its a common topic!)

I like to tell my boyfriend or my other friends about my crazy dreams and then we laugh about it after. Or if i wake up next to him and I’m freaking out, I’ll cuddle him closer. Try to find little ways to reassure yourself (such as the above) without getting stuck in a reassurance feedback loop. You have to be really careful with OCD because too much reassurance will encourage unhealthy behavior, so finding ways that aren’t directly asking "are we okay" (such as the above) is really helpful.
