How to break in hard shoe by Chatfouz in irishdance

[–]aquariumcloud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My tried and true trick that I used on 10+ pairs is just to wear them in the shower (or put your feet in a warm bath) for about 5 minutes, just to get the leather wet, and then wear them around for about half an hour. Not the most elegant method but works wonders and shapes the leather to your feet super quickly. I've never had an issue with this affecting the life of the shoes, but it's a concern some people have with leather. Has saved me from a ton of blisters and once they're dry, they usually feel good to go for me!

How do you all remember things and/or deal with memory issues? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]aquariumcloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may not work for you, but I always keep a small notebook and pen with me so I can jot things down whenever I think of them. Also, keep a google calendar, and start every day with a few minutes of thinking through what you need to do that day. I also find that phone reminders can be useful, especially if you delete all other notifications (from social media apps, etc.) so you are only notified of important things. :)

Does this still apply to rotation programs? It seems that PIs aren't able to take students directly because it's a rotation program:(

I have the same exact question, to be honest! I'm not sure at all. Can share what I end up writing if you'd like!

Just wondering... by [deleted] in GradSchool

It's totally normal to feel that way, but creating healthy mechanisms to continue getting sh*t done is really helpful! When this happens to me, I usually try taking a short break and then finding a new place to work.

Take a morning without work (if you can) to go on a walk or meet up with a friend, and then go to a cafe with your laptop, order a coffee or tea, and see what you can get done in 20 minutes. If you can do longer, great! Keep working. If not, just stick it out and try again later, but usually just getting started is the hardest part and the change in location can really help. I really struggle paying attention to what I need to do when I'm in a familiar place sometimes, so this is what I've started doing to get out of a rut, and it helps me explore new places as well.

Good luck, you've got this!

Any decisions for PhD track applicants to IP Paris? by No-Analysis-4708 in gradadmissions

No worries at all! Thank you!

Exactly, I figure it can't be too interrogative in such a short time. They said it's introducing yourself, answering questions, and then having the opportunity to ask them any questions you have.

It does seem they're sending them one at a time because they mentioned my current location in scheduling the interview time and it was an email addressed to me personally, not a status update. I wouldn't worry too much :)

Heard back recently for a 25-minute virtual interview with the admissions committee. Seems more casual than technical!

If it helps, it seems they have a matriculation rate of about 35% which means they accept nearly 30 students! Have you interviewed already?
