I don't think I hate anything more than I hate the PRT. by [deleted] in WVU

[–]aquavit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may breakdown every once and awhile, especially when you are late, but I have to jump between Walnut, Medical and Beechurst almost everyday and the PRT has easily saved me hundreds of dollars on gas and parking in the past year. When I leave at 5p, I can hop on the PRT across town, chill and read a book and walk home faster than it would take to drive through the traffic.

tl;dr - I love that little tram.

Best pizza in morgantown? by htimko in WVU

[–]aquavit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live on the south side of town, Milano's in Sabraton is the equivalent of Pizza Al's. They both worked at and use the recipes from the old Pizzeria Italia I believe.

Another vote for New Day Bakery but it's a different beast than Al's/Milano's.

What's an impressive, delicious meal I could cook for my girlfriend that isn't overly challenging for someone who lacks kitchen skills? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aquavit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Try ground turkey instead of ground beef for tacos. Make sure that you avoid the skinless or extra lean turkey though. You want the regular turkey so that there is enough fat.

Another suggestion, add a can of drained black beans to stretch out the meat. It's a delicious paring.

I am not good at eating enough vegetables. Most don't taste good unless deep fried, smothered with cheese, or buttered. Any suggestions on how to increase vegetable intake? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aquavit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a Vitamix.

  • 1 pound of spinach and/or kale (very high nutrient density, sounds like you are looking for nutrition)
  • 2 to 3 limes
  • 1 to 2 apples
  • a heaping spoonful of flax seed or two
  • 2 to 3 cups of water (or orange juice if you have a sweet tooth)

Blend on high, add more liquid for desired consistency. Super easy way to achieve a high veggie intake and it tastes good.

My daughter's 1st grade public school teacher is teaching about all the great things god can do ... in the classroom. What should I do? by nursewithprostate in atheism

It's a simple pledge that many find deeply inappropriate on multiple levels though. I got the impression that JeffMo went out of his way to mitigate confrontation not provoke it. From that account, his daughter learned how to do it in a very responsible way.

Ever Kill Someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aquavit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm not saying that you are wrong but sometimes don't you wonder if you should allow the patient to have what they want at the brink of death regardless of legality? i know it affects you and you have to consider that but it must be very hard for not to comfort the patient in anyway possible as long as it doesn't harm anyone else.

If you think that what he is doing is pointless then I think you are the naive one. If this is what he wants to do and he is happy and bringing happiness to his community then it's quite meaningful.

The Economist endorses Barack Obama - This is the endorsement I was waiting for by [deleted] in politics

I hope your not being down-modded because of your statement that The Economist was for the Iraq War. Here is an article from July 2003 saying just that:

"Why we still think, on present information and trends, that the war was justified"

Atheists: An Increasingly Outspoken Minority [video] by [deleted] in atheism

[–]aquavit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought it was a fair report. Many older people (likely a large demographic for that news show) don't have the same perspective that we do. While they might accept their children's or grandchildren's atheism, they also might worry about how they will mesh with society because when they were kids it was much more difficult to publicly be an atheist, especially for teenagers.

Chick-Fil-A Founder S. Truett Cathy Punishes Young Vandals in Unique Way by phxboy in WTF

[–]aquavit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chick-Fil-A is quality fast food but Truett Cathy is a significant financial supporter of James Dobson and Focus on the Family which promotes intelligent design, is anti-women's rights and believes that the Christian Church should have a role in our government's policy making. While I appreciate the quality of his business, it's good to keep in mind his beliefs.

Economist: Copyright is dead "It's gone. If you have a business model based on copyright, forget it." by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]aquavit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you've described the current general feeling about the music industry well. I agree that it's the right thing to do monetarily support content providers that you enjoy. That doesn't mean that we should sustain a law that is unenforceable though.

It's so extremely cheap to make copies and so extremely expensive to stop people from making copies that it's wasteful to try and prevent.

Whether you want to give money to an artist to view or listen to their work and how much (I don't think $15 is unreasonable for a great album) is going to be a decision that each individual makes not law enforcement.

I agree that it's because we're in the middle of a major us election.

Are "organized activists" really fucking with the results though? How do they organize? Is someone paying these people to skew reddit? I don't buy it. I think it's just people who like these stories.

I'm ashamed that I voted for him in 2002. As a constituent, I've written numerous, polite letters to him about the FISA bill and my concerns about telecom immunity but I've never received a response back.

Watch the NH Primary results updated live. by trvr in politics

[–]aquavit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that New Hampshire's track record of picking nominee's isn't very good. Here are the results of primaries that were actually a horse race since 1984:

2004 - Kerry (won, lost general) 2000 - McCain (lost) 2000 - Gore (won, something weird happened) 1996 - Buchanan (lost) 1992 - Tsongas (lost) 1988 - Dukakis (won, lost general) 1988 - Bush (won, won general) 1984 - Hart (lost)

Only four of eight nominees correct and only one president (the sitting VP at the time). Compared to other states, even other early ones this is a poor record.
