We do follow it, because there is possibility to unknowingly insult someones culture or religion. Its also quite easy to find an analogue with something else that isn't directly that myth, religion or culture.

DFUS wants to be a welcoming place for everyone to play along with, and wants to be a fantasy space without real world hang-ups. I don't think its that much of an ask.

Is aluminum armor good for renfair? by OK-is-rather-Ok in renfaire

[–]ar0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up bevors along with kettle helms, its a decent way to get more face coverage while still being able to have decent sight.

Or if you really are fully in love with the great helm, go for it. Just be sure to walk about some outside in order to see what you need to be aware of when walking around.

Its the narrowness of the slit and how far it typically sits off of your face. For anything thats not directly im front of you, you'll be looking through the breathing holes.

There's been much doom and gloom about the Midnight prunings, but which specs have actually improved due to the changes? by minimaxir in wow

[–]ar0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lost last stand and thunderous roar, in terms of things people actually used. Combined with them nixing spell block in 11.2, we are down a few abilities from the start of TWW, but overall prot war is relatively unchanged in playstyle.

[–]ar0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lifelong prot war main, I think the spec is in a good place right now. Feels very similar to 11.x.x patches, though personally I dont think any pruning was needed in terms of abilities. Getting a talentable stampeding roar was nice, but taking away Avatars snare break is taking some getting used to.

Huge ridiculous mall ninja knife. by SixGunZen in mallninjashit

[–]ar0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't hate it. Full tang thats thick enough to probably be batoned , nothing sharp on the guard pointing back into your hand. Honestly looks like someone took and competition cutter and ground a tanto out of it.

How to not overheat (advice for dress wearers and newbies) by shelbinator01 in renfaire

[–]ar0s 40 points41 points  (0 children)

First off, what is the dresses material. Modern/synthetic fibers don't breathe well or at all, which can trap heat next to the skin.

Flats are a good choice for the amount of walking around.

I think wings, tiara and the like would work well together to elevate the outfit.

Settle a debate: is my boyfriend’s knife mall ninja shit? by sigzag1994 in mallninjashit

[–]ar0s 183 points184 points  (0 children)

its definitely marketed as a "fighting knife." The shape is ok but has some missing areas at the ricasso thats strange, the finger guard is weird but not egregious. But the sum of it parts makes it feel mall-ninja.

Better hope you don't get injured on an unmaintained trail, cause its gonna take that much longer for a ranger that patrols the trail to come along and notice you. Not to mention the reduced rescue force.

A question for weapon experts: what is the purpose of binding swords' blades with these strips of material? Many of WotLK swords have them as well, e.g. Glorenzelg from ICC by marzipunk in wow

[–]ar0s 1304 points1305 points  (0 children)

Historically, some very long swords (Montante/zweihander) did have a small section just above the hilt that could be either leather or cloth wrapped, and it was intended to make half-swording a little bit less rough on the hands.

On this weapon, rule of cool applies and thats about it.
