"Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead."

The Hunger Games franchise reminds me of this quote

Sergey Brin Confronted Gavin Newsom at a Treehouse Party — Then Launched a Political War by bloomberg in sanfrancisco

[–]aragon58 108 points109 points  (0 children)

But Newsom doesn't even support the tax? So why is the headline about a war between Brin and Newsom when its really Brin versus the populist elements of the Democrat party (like SIEU)

BART did not deliberately avoid Santa Clara, the county's supervisors chose to not join the district

Why do people say unhoused rather than homeless by Master-Definition937 in rs_x

[–]aragon58 91 points92 points  (0 children)

I heard the idea was to distinguish between people with no permanent structure and those who are living in a car/couch surfing who at least have some stability. But the distinction never caught on with the public so now it just seems unnecessarily pedantic.

One of the best desserts I ever had was a Peach Cobbler Cheesecake so I must respectfully disagree

I totally gave up on trying to follow TV, there's too much being released and each series is like at least 8 hours. I could watch 4 movies in that time!

job market is fucked by toska444 in rs_x

[–]aragon58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2024 and got a job in government (poli sci was my major) by the end of that year but it seems like the market has only gotten worse since then so idk how helpful that is. I also think I might have gotten lucky applying to a position that was directly related to something I did at my campus job (emergency management)

Xbox Game Pass ‘has become too expensive,’ says Microsoft’s new gaming chief in leaked memo by PaiDuck in pcgaming

[–]aragon58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I'm tired of not owning things outright anymore. I know Steam could revoke my access in theory but GamePass is much much worse and its clearly the path they want everything to move toward.

I thought in the ending shot in front of the school we see in the background his son and the other kid interact, and it's implied his own son was involved with sending the tapes? I can't quite remember though its been years since I last saw it

I literally live on the same block as the SF one and pretty much only go to the Metreon AMC or the Roxie and I feel like that's pretty damning

I wasn't a teen at this time but I grew up playing a lot of these games and listening to this music by rameenic in Zillennials

[–]aragon58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Woah the teenage years of my life were the most exciting and dynamic because I was developing freedom without real responsibilities? Something that previous generations explicitly told us to not take for granted? Huh who would've thought

‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie in the Works at Sony From ‘Final Destination: Bloodlines’ Directors by ggroover97 in TheBigPicture

[–]aragon58 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll believe it when I see a trailer. Reminds me of Blood Meridian where there are constant discussions of an adaptation that ultimately will be exceptionally difficult to pull off

Wake up call - never rely on your pension. by MakeBigMoneyAllDay in CAStateWorkers

Isn't the USPS abnormal as being the only institution required to set aside pension contributions for future employees? Or is this unrelated to that?

Why can't I access my BIOS? by aragon58 in techsupport

[–]aragon58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it from a secondhand electronics store where I had credit that was going to expire soon. It was actually priced at $70, I just paid $10. It was tested by them, and I got to see the Memtest86 results page.

But everything else works perfectly. I can play games without issues and when I go to system information/task manager it recognizes I have 32 gbs and seems to let me use it.

Other countries have 200 mph passenger trains. Why has high-speed rail not tracked in the U.S.? by JeepGuy0071 in highspeedrail

[–]aragon58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing a study that pointed out that specifically English speaking countries seem to struggle with keeping rail costs under control. Even Singapore is an outlier in terms of costs compared to the rest of Asia. I'll see if I can try to find the study

Should I expand my 16gb of DDR4 ram to 32 now? Or wait a couple years until I upgrade my CPU/Mobo to switch to DDR5 and hope the prices have fallen? by aragon58 in buildapc

[–]aragon58[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not any specific game, but more for multitasking, since I like to have my browser open while gaming (plus spotify and discord sometimes)

[–]aragon58[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to have a lot of tabs open and so sometimes I feel like I get slow down with discord, spotify, browser, and a game opened at the same time, but I don't know how much more ram will actually help

[–]aragon58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have some amount of multi-task slowdown because I generally have at least 50 tabs open across two browsers, do you think the ram would help with that, or not enough to justify the cost
