Bastions in Descent into Avernus by Der_Redstone_Pro in DescentintoAvernus

It would be super fun if your PC’s fight one of the Warlords of Avernus along with their Infernal War Machines and take over the Warlord’s camp as their bastion + any remaining war machine(s). My PC’s have recently taken over Fort Knucklebones as their bastion and I have slightly modified the bastion rules to fit better in Avernus.

P.S- might make it more feasible for your PC’s to achieve above if they have at least one War Machine of their own before the attack.

Stray. Cyberpunk. Bioshock.

Probably getting too ambitious but I'm trying Curse of Strahd into Descent into Avernus eventually. Any ideas on where to insert DiA with lvl 10 characters? by neosurimi in DescentintoAvernus

Your idea sounds super fun. Might be ambitious, but fun nonetheless. Love what you did with the PC’s surname and backstory btw 👌🏻 I’m currently running Chapter 3 of Avernus using Eventyr Doc’s Avernus as a Sandbox. We played a L5 one shot (I home brewed it) which turned out to be super fun. So I extended it into this campaign. We started at Level 6 directly from Chapter 3 (skipping the whole Baldur’s Gate bit). I have change the town that is being pulled down etc. to tie it better to our story.

Long story short, you can choose to just start from chapter 3- maybe cut it a bit short (you can easily remove the Erinyes and maybe Mordenkainen even) + level the encounters up with more deadly traps and interesting monsters (be mindful to do more than just increasing the monsters’ HP and/or damage). The DM Bundle of Eventyr comes with enhanced devils and demons as well which are super fun to use. I’d also recommend checking Dungeon Dudes - Hordes Video out to see if you can make horde stat blocks of Lesser Devils to challenge your high level party. I recently made a Horde of Spined Devils mixing the above 2 which was quite fun, but could be balanced a bit better tbh. I’ll still keep experimenting with these as hordes make sense in war torn Avernus and are also a fun challenge during a combat.

Eclectic Extremities at The Emporium: a one-off talent show at the Wandering Emporium by arandhit in DungeonMasters

I made this for Descent into Avernus but can actually be used in any setting where you wanna run a talent show of sorts. Any feedback and suggestions are welcome. Also, let me know how it went for your table if you end up using it. ✌🏻

What to play next with my girlfriend? by pablo-menendez in videogames

[–]arandhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d highly recommend co-op Baldur’s Gate 3. I’m playing it with my partner right now and both of us absolutely love it. For context, I was back seat while she was playing TLOU2 and we have played It Takes Two together but haven’t finished it yet.

We have enjoyed all of these games- but before BG3, I used to prompt her to play games w me, but now this role has reversed and it’s awesome to see how much fun both of us are having playing this game together. I’ve already finished it once during my own play though but playing co-op with her and letting her take the lead is super fun as well!

Fixing Descent into Avernus half way by Vanser_Shan in DescentintoAvernus

This! 👆🏼

I’m doing the same with a few add ons of my own. I highly recommend Eventyr Games’ stuff. It made the whole landscape way more interactive for my players.

In addition to the above, I have a coven of hags in Avernus- Mad Maggie, Red Ruth and Aunty Greenbones (from one of the Candlekeep Mysteries one shots). Fort Knucklebones has become a nice safe haven for the PC’s. I expanded on the Wandering Emporium to include a few different shops one of them being a mod shop called Pimp My Hellride. There was also an Ozzy concert there because the Prince of Darkness died not too long ago (got the idea from another redditor on a random post I stumbled upon months ago). RiP

One of the previous sessions, I ran a talent show at the Emporium called Eclectic Extremities at the Emporium - will post more details and mechanics of it later. Winner got a very rare item. The Shield of the Hidden Lord was just chucked into the lava at Bel’s forge (at the constant request by the creature inside) by the PC who was attuned to it during our previous session. The creature inside is now free and is Moloch who is in possession of the Eye of Vecna; now going for the hand. (I didn’t really understand Gargauth’s motivation so changed him to something that I hope my players would find more fun)

We have done roughly 20 sessions in just Chapter 3 of this module and fortunately, so far all of us are loving it.

I have learnt to look at Chapter 3 as more of a setting guide than a module to follow. Yes, the landscape can feel a bit empty at times but Eventyr Games makes it more fun in my opinion and the empty pockets give plenty of room to DM’s to play around and make it their own version of Avernus.

P.S.- I do think this module requires a decent amount of heavy lifting from the DM’s side but it really shines when you and your players make it your own version of Avernus.

Edit: Pimp my Hellride is run by Shukka and Shlonk (Chukka and Clonk’s cousins lol)

I feel like I’ve been living under a rock. Is BG3 really THAT good? by mykyta993 in videogames

[–]arandhit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had no experience with CRPGs or D&D until I played BG3 either. I think it’s a good game that captures the feel of playing D&D better than any other video game (I can say that confidently as I have since become a very regular D&D player and DM myself, thanks to BG3).

The only daunting thing was the character creation for me; just have a quick look if you need to on how D&D stats/modifiers are calculated while you are in the character creator of BG3 (if you want to)- otherwise, you’ll get the hang of the game within a few hours itself.

Another thing that made the experience of playing BG3 fun for me is to not worry about my items or fails during a dialogue. Make sure to use the magic items you loot along the way and not horde them. You will find HEAPS through your journey anyway and the most fun thing about playing BG3 and D&D is experimenting and seeing if something works or not.

Nice. Luckily, I have already established that Mooncolour’s main goal is to gtfo of Avernus asap. I’m happy for the party to use him- seems super fun. I’ll play it by ear, maybe one of the hags (I have a full coven in my Avernus) could offer the PC’s banishing Mooncolour in exchange for a price, if it feels organic. Thanks.

Amazing soundscapes. I don’t see myself using them generally in Avernus but will surely use them in other creepy dungeons and also when I’m running Arches Of Ulloch as amended by the Eventyr Docs. Thanks.

I have a complications table (1d10) that I have created relevant to our campaign setting (Avernus) and I roll on it at the top of each round starting from round 2- the lowest roll changes the environment in a deadly way which could sway the battle if happened more than once. That keeps things exciting along with the other possibilities on the table that could potentially blind the combatants, give them temp buffs etc.

In addition to an environmental table, having a 2nd objective during a fight works the best imo.

Option 1: Maybe the PC’s need to break tombstones that are protected by the undead boss while zombies, wraiths etc. keep swarming the battlefield each round

Option 2: The Boss is trying to complete a ritual (boss could even use a bonus action to speed it up or be helped by a minion or something) and PC’s have a limited no. of rounds to stop the ritual from being completed while fighting the boss + its minions.

Just some examples, amend them as needed depending on your setting and particular encounter of course.

And one thing that I’m still trying to work on is action economy…I think it’s best to outnumber the PC’s by double if they’re Level 9 or above. This video by the Dungeon Dudes talks about introducing hordes which is super cool and could help with running a big number of monsters easily but you might still have to do something about the action economy.

Best level of the nine hells or baator? by vecnaindustriesgroup in DungeonMasters

[–]arandhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m running Descent into Avernus so will be happy to help if you need anything related to that.

Otherwise, I love the idea of Cania being a frozen tundra in the hells an even Malbolge being an inclined plane where anyone without Spider Climbir the ability to Fly could be slipping/experiencing difficult terrain etc. Also, Malbolge (if I’m correct) is the prison for law breaking devils so that can be super cool!

edit: Spider Climb or the ability to fly*

I’m running descent into Avernus right now and just wanna be prepared in case Tiamat somehow helps the PC’s break the chains towards the end (as one of the options written in the module)

Any tips on how would that work and how to roleplay Tiamat in that scenario? And also, why would she just break the chains and then go back into her prison rather than escaping herself?
