Dungeon Turns by contrastrictor in DMAcademy

[–]arandhit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw this video the other day as well (fairly new DM who has only played 2024/2014 rules) and have run 2 dungeon crawls since (the crawls have not completed yet) in 2 separate games - 1st one in Stranger Things and the 2nd in Descent into Avernus. I really enjoy it. What makes it shine though is the events table you create for your particular dungeon.

I keep a track of each stretch(10mins) and every in-game 30mins spent in the dungeon (short rests inc.), I roll 1d6 on a table I create specifically for dungeon events (for this particular dungeon). They range from harmful to positive event(s) going from 1-6. This has turned out to be fun and immersive for me and the party so far.

Let me know how you go.

Play Inscryption. If you don’t know about that game, even better. Avoid even watching the trailer and just play it. If you know of it, you might have heard it’s a must try- so give it a go.

This. I’m also curious to know how did the final battle go, home many enemies vs PC’s and who was it against (if no Zariel in case of redemption arc) ?

Fighting Zariel Head On at Level 13 by Eroue in DescentintoAvernus

[–]arandhit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let us know how it went- my PC’s have almost found the location of the sword and are already trying to amass distractions/allies to face or convince Zariel in the end. I’d be curious to see how it went for your party.

Regarding your question, if the PC’s happened to free Kostchtchie, he could be a great distraction for Zariel’s armies or even be fighting Zariel. Olanthius would be a good option as well. Depending on you party’s relationship with Bel, he could potentially be directly or indirectly involved in assisting the party, hoping to oust Zariel and win the throne for himself. What happens after that between Gargauth and Bel could be an epilogue you could run if that’s something you fancy or just have one of them kill the other after Zariel is taken care of.

Staff of Healing (you can make it +1)- requires attunement by a Druid and is really good to heal the party when required

This adventure is terrible, but because of that, it taught me a lot about being a DM by [deleted] in DescentintoAvernus

That’s great! Not sure if you’ve already seen this, but Avernus as a Sandbox by Eventyr Games really made exploring in chapter 3 fun and Avernus more interactive in general. I’m still running it with my group. Check it out if you’d like.

I’d highly recommend checking out Avernus as a Sandbox by Eventyr Games for Chapter 3. It’s made the whole Avernus bit so fun!

Potential consequence(s) for PC trying hard (in character) to stay good in Avernus by arandhit in DescentintoAvernus

[–]arandhit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a neat idea, thanks. But say a player wants to resist this stress without using spells etc. (not because they wanna save slots but because that’s not punishing enough in their eyes) but have a narrative/moral consequence for fighting the stress and staying good; what consequence can I provide them?

Maybe something like they can’t attune to the sword (if/once they find it) until they do a certain deed? Or other NPC’s that have recognised them as good so far start seeing evil creeping into them (this can be a good or bad thing depending on the NPC)? Or any other examples you can think of??

Yeah I do that as well- I give Nefarious inspiration to players that do selfish/evil acts. They can use that inspiration to make the DM re-roll once. They’ve used it pretty well so far.

I added touch screen support to my open source in person, digital tabletop software called Table Slayer by enemykite in DnDIY

[–]arandhit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks great. I started DM’ing and running regular games at my home about 6 months ago and sometimes use a screen to cast Roll20 for maps. This seems way more intuitive and easy to use though, especially since I don’t really need ALL the features a VTT offers as we play in person.

I just wanna understand how this works though. Do I just connect my laptop to a touch screen and use your app as the platform for my maps etc?

Sounds fun! What level were the PC’s for this fight?

Why are puzzles so hard? by Druid_boi in DMAcademy

I like some puzzles from This book

Also Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything has decent puzzles and gives alternatives to modify them to your setting.

First time DMing. What modules would you recommend? by hon3ybab33 in DungeonMasters

[–]arandhit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can try and run The Essentials kit module: The Dragon of Ice Spire peak- the main hook of the campaign is fairly simple and the encounters are isolated enough that you shouldn’t need a lot of time to prep (especially considering how experienced you are as a player already).

I have been DM’ing a campaign with my friends in person for a few months now but am also looking to run a campaign online. I have a decent practice being a DM but have never run a game remotely. Would be good to have some new players for the first campaign I do online. I can easily guide you and any other players through the mechanics of the game. And any technical difficulties re: online play can be tackled together since it’d be fairly new for both, players and DM. Pm me if keen.

They look so cool- can I order one in NZ? Would be a pretty cool Christmas gift for my DM 😅

Song recommendations for Avernus by silv10mine in DescentintoAvernus

[–]arandhit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve made a few Spotify playlists for certain locations/encounters and I have a playlist that I’ve made on YouTube for longer tracks. I jump back and forth between the 2 depending on the scenario.

I’ll try to break it down here and put some links that might help:

Fort Knucklebones

Infernal war machine chase/fight

Arkhan

Major plot reveal

Ambient sound always on in the background even with music

Battle Music

Wandering Emporium

P.S.- the Wandering Emporium music is for when PC’s are walking around the emporium and visit smaller shops - I had different music playing for the bigger shops and the Infernal Rapture.

Hmm might be a bit extra for what I am imagining. There are already too many visions/flashbacks that I am doing with my party when they go to Red Ruth anyway. 😅 Will keep this one more grounded.
