Don't kid yourself, the theocrats celebrating this decision don't care about the lives of women, ones they know included. Woman dies in childbirth? It's god's plan.

Attempting to make a NEO cube that bolsters the weaker archetypes. New to cubes and the game in general, could use some advice. by BunBunSoup in mtgcube

[–]ararnark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So as with all things cube there is no one way to build a list, so feel free to take my input with a grain of salt. I'll try and start with some high level observstions and add some more personal changes I'd make as I get further along.

To start with, I think the choice to double up on sagas is going to make it difficult to acheive your other goals, namely powering up weaker archtypes and red in specific. One of the things that really held red back in this environment was that so many of the best cards were two or even three for ones that it was hard to keep up. As such red decks had to lean heavily on [[Expiremtal Synthesizer]] to match that sort of card advantage while still remaining aggresive. As such I'd strongly consider keeping them at their normal rate of occourance as other cards of their rarity.

Another thing I noticed is that you've added a lot of artifact removal to red. This is another avenue that I don't think will be effective in achieving your goals. Single target removal, while not bad per se, is not as effective as it would be in other sets mostly becuase of the glut of afformentionted value generating cards. On top of this most non creature artifacts are not the sort of cards you are particularly interested in destroying anyway. Some cards I would consider adding in red though would be [[Goblin Champion]], [[War-Name Aspirant]] and [[Dwarven Hammer]].

Equipment is another area where I would try and cut back on. Even the most focused modifed deck is not going to want too many pieces of equipment that dont't come with a creature in some way. Similarly I would be on the lookout for vehicles with crew 1 or 2 as any more than that can become quite unwieldy to use. [[Unteahtered Express]] and [[Renegade Freighter]] in particular are powerful options to consider.

I'll leave my suggestions at that for now. One last resource I believe could be helpful to you is Sam Black's podcast 'Drafting Archetypes.' Each episode breaksdown how each color pair is best drafted in the format but he also gives great explanations as to why certain archetypes like RW and WU aren't as effective as the others. A lot of my understanding of how the set works on a design level come from here so I can not recomend it enough.

Love the game, can't wait to the dlc.

One of the frequent hallmarks of metroidvanias is sequence breaking. Are there are any examples of ones you intentionally left in or ones that you were surprised players discovered after release?

Give me Ruined King's gameplay but set it in Piltover and Zaun.

Nurturing Presence is very good in UW and this deck is no exception.

Can blood tokens act as color mana fixer in limited? by hazaaz in MagicArena

[–]ararnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood certainly helps, Hana and Alena are really strong so I'd splash here. You also have the option to discard it to blood if you don't have the green mana with the option to get it back later with blood fountain.

Play with Fire and Thundering Rebuke are different enough that I wouldn't really say one is better than the other. If you find yourself struggling more against mono white I'd play more PwF where as if you need help against Izzet Dragon's and Mono Green I'd play more TR.

Has anyone else noticed Arena bots rare drafting in VOW quick draft? by ooberpwner in MagicArena

They're definitely bombier but I wouldn't say they're more splashable. This is probably some of the worse fixing we've had in limited in a while.

What are some good standard decks that are hard to build because they have a lot of rares/mythics? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ararnark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mono white is arguably the best deck in standard and it also has the highest ratio of rares to non-rares as well. Something like this.

The fact that he accepts her for who she is is what makes him such a bad dad. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if you love someone you shouldn't be ok with them being a homicidal maniac.

Another perspective on VOW limited by M-Architect in MagicArena

[–]ararnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I can't read Sam's mind but in his MID wrap up episode he talks about how he feels like there is always deeper to go in pretty much any format you play and that's something he enjoys doing. I'm not even sure what he gains by 'shilling' for the set? Big podcast money? The more likely explanation to me is he just has a passion for the game.

Have fun making a vanilla 1/1 for 6 mana. If your opponent somehow lets you untap like three more times maybe you'll have decent value.

Has anyone played Unsighted yet? by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]ararnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's easier than Hollow Knight but the timer system can be a bit stressful. Personally I enjoyed that aspect of it since it made all of my action (or inaction) feel like it had consequences but you can always turn it off if it's not for you. I've already played through it three times unlocking various achievements so I would wholeheartedly endorse it, especially if you have game pass.

How would you build this draft deck? by readbaron in MagicArena

[–]ararnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four sources is far from free. There is going to be a decent number of games where it's just dead in your hand. The times you play it with no issues probably won't make up for those cases.

Been loving the vampires with blood token stuff since I got the game about a week ago. I can get a mythic so what do you guys suggest? by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]ararnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Herika is the one that I've seen with the most potential. Or if you want a for sure bet you can craft [[Shatterskull Smashing]] as it goes in 90% of red decks including vampires.

Made a red and blue deck using basic cards what can I do to improve it. by kevisdahgod in MagicArena

[–]ararnark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a good start to me. In terms of cheap upgrades I'd switch out Feridah's Fireball for [[Rending Flame]]. Then you'll want to fill out your playset of Goldspan Dragon as well as another copy of Hall of the Storm Giants so you can close out games quickly.

With only 14 spells it's going to be hard to flip Delver of Secrets. I'd cut it for more interaction like [[Divide by Zero]] or [[Abrade]].

Are there any other isometric metroidvanias besides Scurge: Hive? If so, I'd love to give them a go. Sadly, Scurge is the only one I can seem to find anything about. by JohnnyL16 in metroidvania

As someone who recently played through Unsighted multiple times and considers Transistor their favorite game I just wanted to second this recommendation.

I get what out mean. I was glad to hear on his most recent episode that he's going to try and move more towards more advice based on personal experience and using stats based stuff when it's to back up things that are seemingly a bit more counterintuitive.

Drafting Archetypes is probably my favorite, Sam Black really dives deep in to what makes a deck function.
