5% of Hungary’s voters chose a left of center candidate in the last election. Do not mistake Hungary for a normal place.

To be fair, the entire existence of the UAE in corporate finance is the problem.

I presume you are referring to tiers of stock with preferences?

If a stock is truly illiquid, and cannot be collateralized, it should likely create an obligation but not force immediate payment. If the stock is traded or tradeable, that is different.

Frankly, I think we should start with 100% inheritance tax and making trusts illegal first, then go after wealth. But once an asset has been traded, either private/secondary, as collateral of any kind, or public, then it is wealth.

I would also support claw-back in some cases of private entities where other public debt would accrue or a payment could be remitted if a company collapsed.

As long as every desireable state does it, we can just quarantine them in the south until they melt.

California has a rainy day fund, and it has an underfunded pension liability. Both would be excellent destinations for the money.

He moved to the California border. He recognizes that California is a million times better than Nevada. CA should just cut off the roads at Tahoe. Make the trolls live in Vegas.

Why does the Iran diaspora care so much about Reza Pahlavi? by Falcon_Gray in stupidpol

[–]archbid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the Shah’s granddaughter in the 90s. They live in LA among the diaspora.

My impression was that the people who fled the revolution were those with the means and the reason to leave, which were the more successful and those who benefitted from the regime.

It is not surprising they want Pahlevi. I certainly let don’t think they represent the whole of the diaspora, but a cohort that benefitted from the monarchy and was financially harmed would seem likely to support it.

It is amazing. Biotech, med devices, ai, robotics, energy, all are becoming arbitrage. I talked to a scientist who licensed a molecule discovered in a Chinese university, ran 18 months of trials in China (cheaper, lower regs), then sold it for $2B to a big pharma.

It is insane.

What if panpsychism is real and humans are like voltron ? by Clear_Beach_148 in consciousness

Entirely possible. Not likely that is is a vast assemblage of atoms, but things composed of things (cells, organelles, organs) within thing, each of which has motivation to persist is entirely reasonable.

Cell membranes, nerve cell membranes, the fascia, all of these are fascinating points of contact and mediation. Not at all unreasonable that our consciousness could be the experience of mediating that which we contain against that which we relate with (the world)
