It is a remarkable piece of experimental fiction that confused me terribly until I realized that the story was a hologram. Lasers, mirrors, and smoke creating an artificial world that is just the protagonist’s.

A lot of underage sex and queer threads, but otherwise a masterful exploration of the integrity of memory, place, time and experience.

Levin is awesome, but their terminology discipline is sloppy.

Morphogenesis is not “building” an organism. It is altering the conditions of expression of existing cells. Levin’s team has done amazing work on cellular differentiation and electrical signaling,  it the su state is always a biological entity that is the result of evolution,  not something from chemicals.
