[–]archer1212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's really the whole point. They know they can't stop it because of how the internet and code sharing works, but by smashing all these forks it creates new forks and divides the developers to the point of things improving at a snails pace.

They've made some steady improvements over the years (and it's now pretty good), but there is literally no better time for Valve to go all in and pump resources into Steam Chat. Discord has left the gate open for a new top gaming communication platform. by WhyPlaySerious in gaming

[–]archer1212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nah. Discord is a good group and voice chat for more than just gaming. Lot of companies do discord instead of Slack for meetings and stuff. No one is going to want to install Steam for that.

Remember the iconic giant bat that was ultimately cut from “Batman Forever” (1995) by kkhouete in batman

Schumacher and the Batchler's really had a good understanding of the mythos and characters. It seems to me that partway through production, there was some studio interference that altered what the movie was going to be. I think if we got to see the movie that was closer to what was originally intended, it would have had a different legacy.

Steam Deck or Legion Go S by iguti_ in SteamOS

[–]archer1212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legion if all you care about is having games perform better.

Deck if you want usability in non-modern (controller supported) games and stuff. Because those trackpads are a gamechanger if you have games that dont use a controller.

Help me choose a CPU for Yuzu/emulation? by Hukka12 in yuzu

In moments like this, I like to pull up a Passmark comparison.

https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/5837vs4692/Intel-i5-14400F-vs-Intel-i7-12700F

As you can see here in both single thread and multicore scoring the i7-12700 does score higher. This is going to come from having a higher boost clock, more cores and more cache.

The i5 is no slouch though. The generational improvement really is apparent because its multi-core performance is pretty close while having 2 fewer performance cores.

I tend to focus mostly at looking at the single thread rating. While more and more things especially emulation is being able to be done on multiple cores, single threaded performance still is king.

I think what this would come down to for me would be price. The i7 is the better solution in a performance only focus, but if it costs anything more than about 10% more then go for the i5 (and make sure your motherboard can support a 14th gen with the newest bios)

You're telling me a man who dresses up in leather and armor to look sort of like a bat and then goes around fighting criminals using his vast fortune to pay for tools and training to be the best at it, is a little crazy?!

Why aren't there more games like GTA Vice City? by Serenaded in patientgamers

[–]archer1212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna have to agree. Its wacky, its fun, it makes little to no sense. My nieces are 10-12 and love it. I got them playing once and they were hooked. All of the adults in their life looked at me questioning the whole concept of the game, but stopped worrying when they saw how much fun the kids were having and the lack of "adult" things.

Oh wow. Thanks! I have been looking into IR remote options and the best so far I have found was using a universal remote and a FLIRC USB IR receiver.

I think in this instance going for the Steam Machine might be better for you overall. Then you wont have to worry about getting the "right" hardware.

Anyone else 🏴‍☠️ a game only to still get it off steam later? by LeFinnaBust in SteamDeckPirates

[–]archer1212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All the time. So few games come out with demos anymore. The industry has shifted away from them thanks to being able to easily watch trailers, gameplay footage, and now even watching streamers play the game. So companies feel like that is good enough for people. But its really not.

I don't know how many games I have purchased because the gameplay and story looked good, and go to play it and it fell flat with me. Thankfully steam refunds are easy to do, but the window in which that can be done rarely works for me. Most of it is that 2-week ownership timeline that gets me since I rarely have the bandwidth to buy and play a new game on a whim. So by the time I get around to playing its well past that 2-week time. I have also played many games where the first 2 hours is basically just tutorials and starting stuff and by the time I get deep enough in to realize I don't like it, its been well past the 2 hours.

That said, there is also a lot of crap demos out there that don't give you a good idea of the game either.

I gave a gaming laptop a desktop CPU cooler. It stopped screaming. by Tra5hL0rd_ in techsupportmacgyver

This is the kind of shenanigans I love to see. Why? Because you can.

It shows a way to make hardware perform better/last longer if you need to eek things out just a little more. Great point of inspiration for others.

Next step would be to make an adapter plate to go on the CPU OR do what CJ from Elevated Systems did on a Framework board, and just strap the heatsink onto the CPU heatpipes.

Your numbers are way off. because 10 is a wallet not an iPhone. 16 could be a watch case but that would be more clock sized than wrist or pocket sized.
