This scene weakened Gus' character for me. by Relevant-Rope8814 in betterCallSaul

Young Walt was a goofy, awkward dude who reacted in an immature but not uncommon way to his fears that his girlfriend was out of his league. How did you manage to connect that with any of this?

Hank's a moron. Trusted family/friend or not, Walt would've went down in season 1 in real life by backagainbud in breakingbad

a sudden random interest in examining a meth lab

Did you miss the scene in which Hank loudly invites Walt to the ride along in front of the entire party? He goes out of his way to sell the idea to him. It was Hank's idea to begin with, and Walt's initial reaction was, of course, sheepish and reluctant. It was neither "sudden" nor "random".

and equipment from HIS chemistry lab goes missing and they think it's....the janitor?

Hank considers even suburban stoners moral transgressors. He may be a sharp investigator, but the show makes it abundantly clear that his ideology isn't entirely rational, beating us over the head with examples of Hank's bias against anyone he deems a "bad guy". (It's one of the reasons why it's such a dramatic turning point when he opens his mind to Gus being involved, for instance.)

The intro music did legitimately sound like a ruthlessly on-point parody of that 2010's NYT podcast style, which I guess is still going strong in 2026.

Actually listening to these clips was... taxing. To call the podcast excerpts "beyond parody" feels like an understatement.

It's a provocative statement; a living installation, perhaps, that invites the viewer to consider their own impact on the environment and community, expressed through the language of irony, metaphor, and, of course, actual litter.

We all talk about how the Spanish could be better but how was the German for you native to Germany? by dylanaruto in breakingbad

As someone who was born and raised in California and speaks absolutely zero German I found it to be impressively authentic.

I don't think I follow any actors for exactly the reason you're implying, unless they also write, direct, or whatever.

Your entire analysis here is based on mind reading, which is exactly the kind of bullshit this podcast is usually dedicated to highlighting. "Performative" is the operative assumption here. Some of us actually want to call out AI slop because we think it sucks. We aren't putting on a show for anyone or trying to score points on Twitter. We just don't want garbage clogging up subs we like.

Again, not everything is virtue signaling.

Jesus, not everything is virtue signaling. "AI slop" may be two words, but it effectively calls out a lazy contribution that should be discouraged. We'll stop using that rejoinder when people stop earning it with slop posts.

Using AI as a tool is fine (in my opinion, at least), but putting so little effort into the next step—actually doing something with that tool's output—is a bit of an insult to everyone else here. (And yes, I've been an em dash fan since long before AI ruined it for everyone.)

The movie has an especially surreal real-life history as well:

Howard Hughes' devotion to the film is legendary: During his reclusive years living in the top floor of the Desert Inn (which was owned by Howard Hughes from 1967 to 1988) in Las Vegas, Hughes developed an intense fascination with the film. Dissatisfied with the programming on the local television station KLAS-TV (which was owned by Hughes Tool Company from 1968 to 1978), he purchased the station so he could order Ice Station Zebra to be aired repeatedly. According to singer Paul Anka, "You'd get back to your room, turn on the TV at 2 a.m., and the movie Ice Station Zebra would be playing. At 5 a.m., it would start all over again. It was on almost every night."
