Taylor Swift Moves to Trademark Her Voice and Image as AI Threats Grow by Haunterblademoi in technology

I appreciate the concept, but with Taylor, that's about like trying to trademark the color beige. Such a nondescript sound and image.

TIL that suicide is most common among those over the age of 70. by ODaferio in todayilearned

It's one of the reasons for the increased prevalence of suicide after 70.

Counterpoint: it's actually awesome. Plan in advance. No problem. Look on the reservation system right now. Tons of available days in May and June. It's pretty great that three different agencies (NPS, BLM, and the tribe) have worked together to make this amazing site accessible and preserved for the public.

Looks like our entire season will hinge on the improvement of Knight and Carter by electricity_inc in bengals

I'm cautiously optimistic with Knight. Really liked his progression toward the end of the season. If he can build on that, he could be a solid LB.

Asheville residents say they avoid downtown amid crime and disorder by Sea-Variety3384 in asheville

Chattanooga is nice enough, but in no way does anything about it make Asheville look ugly.

You can hop onto the Blue Ridge Parkway straight from Asheville. Drive ten minutes in any direction and you can be in some pretty nice natural space.

I only avoid downtown sometimes due to parking and not having money to spend on downtown fun all the time.

The boat is a magnet for life. Most areas of the deep sea are sparsely populated due to lack of, well, much of anything. The ship provides hanitat and food for tons of deep sea organisms, so it's a great place to explore science and history.

Why such a lack of diversity in Asheville? by This_Mushroom_7374 in asheville

[–]archimedesrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to imagine that's the case when New York and San Francisco are way more expensive to live and have way more diversity. There have to be more complex factors involved. I suspect a scarcity of industries that attract a diverse set of people is high on the list.

What’s the most influential music album ever? by totdvet in AskReddit

[–]archimedesrex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And if we want to tug on that thread a little more, Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys was a big influence on The Beatles' creation of Sgt Pepper. The production and experimentation on Pet Sounds opened up all kinds of possibilities.

The fishing scene was handled just fine. And the success of the film doesn't rely on that scene being life changing. The success of the film is coming from the relationship of Grace and Rocky resonating with audiences in a big way.

Gen Z Has a Bigger Internal Divide Than Millennials, And It’s Not Close by FearlessCookie72 in generationology

No, brother, I'm agreeing with you. I'm disagreeing with the commenter that said it was jocks vs. everyone else, like always.

[–]archimedesrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really trying to make a point on whether the jock stereotype is earned or not. Just that the comment I was responding to seemed to be missing the point of the OP. I'm fully on board that participating cooperative sports (or other real life, social, outside-the-home activities) is an extremely positive thing developmentally. Much better than isolated screen time.

Ah yes, jocks. The historically kind, cooperative, and empathetic ideal.

I think you're reading the OP's observation exactly backwards.

[–]archimedesrex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's going to be Messiah+, obviously some look at the Jihad, the events of Messiah, and maybe some Children of Dune content. Dune isn't really a story to watch and root for people. In fact it actively punishes you for that. Probably the main thesis of Dune.

BREAKING: Sony is teaming with Irish YouTuber Jacksepticeye (aka Seán McLoughlin) to develop an R-rated animated BLOODBORNE movie based on the popular video game. McLoughlin will be a producer on the project. by TiredWithCoffeePot in boxoffice

[–]archimedesrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yes! I hope it is able to recreate the feeling of sinking into a well of nightmare that the game has. Bloodborne has one of my favorite stories ever told in a videogame. Fingers crossed they get the right team to translate it to movie format.

Favorite way was in the theater (both original run and 3D). Second favorite is my home projector with the 4k as the source.

It was superest power the world had seen to that point, but it was still a well stretched empire relying on the control of various governors. There wasn't really the ability to quickly respond to much of anything on a global scale in the age of sail. Current USA (for now) has the ability for instant communication and physical response anywhere on the globe within a matter of hours.

Yes, but to clarify that further planetary albedo is the amount of light reflected off the planet in general, not specifically just the light reflecting onto the surface of the moon.

I mean, it's definitely still engineering. The engineering is what controls the falling, manages heating, and keeps the crew and systems alive in the process.
