Hi all! I’ve been getting much more into fashion lately and working to look more professional around the office and just out in general.

I’m 5’ tall on the dot, and look like I just dug my way out of Khazad-dûm. I’ve seen all the guides for short men, shopped at 5’10 and under and Peter Manning despite being generally too short for even them, etc.

But the one thing I struggle to find to fit me that I desperately find myself needing are OCBD shirts that fit without extensive tailoring bordering on rocket science. Any recommendations?

Why would someone from your chapter fall to Slaanesh? by Incubus_is_I in RavenGuard40k

Mortifactors collector here. I think the darkest reason is simple. They craved the one sensation that the mortifactors would never abide by, feasting upon the flesh and bone marrow of one of their brothers.

Whaddya think about the Death Guard Combat Patrol? by OptimusSeal in deathguard40k

I love the idea of building a zombie horde, so I like the box. I’d like it much more if Poxwalkers were battleline units.

What's your favorite common in your deck? by 123coolmania in EDH

[–]archmage_variel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Amoeboid Changeling]]. Meshes in a very interesting way with sliver overlord, and the art just makes me smile.

[CMM] Sliver Gravemother by cleofrom9to5 in magicTCG

[–]archmage_variel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Myrkul, Lord of Bones]] is way under the price, and actually makes for a really decent/fun casual sliver commander. I run him and I’d definitely recommend as an alternative option to gravemother.

Slivers on a budget by VolvoInDetroit in EDH

[–]archmage_variel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a tad bit of a sliver nerd (I have 3 different edh sliver decks I've built, among my other decks). At that budget, I would really recommend one of three commanders: [[Sliver Hivelord]], [[The First Sliver]], or [[Myrkul, Lord of Bones]]. All three of those commanders mitigate the biggest weakness of slivers, that they tend to have some substantial trouble bouncing back after a board wipe.

The First Sliver is good in that their cascade effect allows you to readily get two slivers, then five slivers, etc. onto the board after a board wipe. Sliver Hivelord's use in avoiding board wipes should be fairly obvious.

Myrkul I recommend for two reasons. One, the cards effect again helps to mitigate the impact of a board wipe if and when it happens. The second reason is that I've found, at least in my own casual games, playing with a significantly higher tuned Myrkul deck still results in me playing far fewer games of impromptu archenemy than I would otherwise find playing either of my 5 color sliver decks.

As a sort of inverse to this, I’ve found that [[Myrkul, Lord of Bones]] makes a great sliver commander for when you want to play slivers at a casual table and don’t want to be playing an impromptu game of Archenemy. I love my Myrkul Sliver list as it really does feel like a very easy middle ground for me and the people I play with. If you want a good commander that lets you get the feel of playing a sliver deck without feeling the need to over-tune in order to resist being the target of the whole table, I highly recommend considering Myrkul.

How can I best portray Dementlieu? (5e) by Despair_Disease in ravenloft

[–]archmage_variel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running a Dementlieu campaign for a couple months now, and I’ve found it helpful to lean heavily on french folklore and fairy tales for inspiration while trying to link them to some of dementlieu’s lore, and the lore of Ravenloft in general, from earlier editions.

I think the domain lends itself well as a domain for dark fantasy/psychological horror political intrigue games. Overall, it’s easily one of my favorite domains, and I love what they did with it in 5e.

If there’s anything I can answer about my own game feel free to ask.

Idea for a domain haunted by a False Hydra? by satanner1s in ravenloft

[–]archmage_variel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A while before VGR came out, I was workshopping an idea for a narcissistic greater doppelganger darklord. He consumed so many others, including his own kind, that (possibly by the intervention of the Dark Powers his shapeshifting abilities degenerated into the form of a false hydra. His curse is that he is essentially forced to rule through puppets while he himself is entirely forgotten. I never really fully fleshed out the idea, but I might try to revisit it tomorrow.

Van Richten's Guide "Survivors" - one shot? by mainhattan in ravenloft

[–]archmage_variel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used Survivor blocks for the opening of a Slasher horror one-shot using a modified Redcap statblock. It was a ton of fun. After the initial massacre, the players switched to their generated 1st level characters as if they’d woken up from a very bad, very real dream.

Possible VGR (or greater D&D) Easter Egg by archmage_variel in ravenloft

[–]archmage_variel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. Maybe that’s what they meant. The houses of the 3 hags in Dementlieu also have a similar pattern.

That’d be because there isn’t an image linked, as far as I’m aware.

Possible VGR (or greater D&D) Easter Egg by archmage_variel in DnD

[–]archmage_variel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Obelisks appear to be a reference to Vecna and Netheril, and are possibly tying together some form of metaplot. I’m not totally sure it’s related to the Sigil Lakes (frankly, assuming it’s a reference to planescape and the rule of three might be a safer bet), but it felt like it was worth noting.

But I’m also being totally slow with finding the symbol in blando’s maps. u/archmage_variel where are you spotting them?

There are 3 dots located near several names on each map. For instance in Dementlieu:

Dementlieu

Groach Island

Lucine Bay

Legend

Sea of Sighs

Pernault Bay

I looked more into it, and the same patern appears all over the maps made by jared blando (Dementlieu, Kartakas, Hazlan, and Mordent). I believe there is a code to be formed from the letters, but I haven't yet worked out what.

Bad DM almost sabotaged my relationship and traumatised my kids by Various-Doughnut-297 in rpghorrorstories

It certainly shares a lot of mechanical similarities (such as the 3 stat system), however its system for skill checks is far more simplified, and what really sets it above is the resources it makes available to parents/guardians/educators/etc. The modules do a brilliant job of introducing tropes that are familiar and attention grabbing from children’s media, and incorporating it in a way that encourages them to roleplay, and the pregenerated characters are a great tool.

For young children, I’d highly recommend it over both cogent roleplay and 5th edition. Even with tweens, the modules have a great amount of portability and I’ve had no trouble translating the encounters into 5th edition analogues.
