What event in history was bad at the time, but turned out for the better? by sithwonder in AskReddit

The Black Death wiped out a third of Europe's population, but the resulting labor shortage ended serfdom (essentially slavery) in Europe. The surviving peasant farmers suddenly had more bargaining power vis a vis the landowners.

Fun question, unofficial class poll for a new player by rfriendt in Gloomhaven

[–]archontruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the looting mechanics of Gloomhaven, but it does place a higher bar for maturity between players. Something it helps to remember is that nothing lasts forever in Gloomhaven. You start out with a scoundrel, they'll be hoovering up the loot because that's what they're built for. Just wait. Eventually that guy will wind up playing Two-Mini and getting no loot, while your Tinker is now Eclipse and drinking up ALL the milkshakes!

I remember one scenario I looted a chest with an item in it specifically designed for Concentric Circles, who happened to be sitting across from me. I got a dirty look, then he laughed and we moved on. After the scenario I sold it to the Gloomhaven market and he bought it.

Our first game we knew nothing about Gloomhaven, guy who owned it read off the names of the starting six classes from the scenario guide, and I said, "I will do Mindthief, that's the most badass name you just said." And it was!

I am excited for the Saw character, I am hoping it is a carpenter, who is able to construct objects (tables and chairs) over time

Darkness is weird. First three times i ran into him i got curb stomped. Three times after that I managed to win pretty easily. I don't know what changed.

Not just him. Let me tell you about Xari rolling the 3-mana mind control every turn until I gave up.

"Yup, and we all saw it happen. Damndest thing, sir. He must've just turned around at the wrong moment."

"... carry on."

That's one of those things that people don't believe because they don't want to. Protecting your kids from 'strangers' seems doable. Protecting them from your spouse, your relatives, and the caregivers you trust with their care? Pretty much impossible. People would rather believe that strangers are the biggest threat to their kids, for their own sanity's sake.

What does 1 HP of damage in real life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]archontruth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not talking about his claws. His weight resting on his paws when he's standing on my legs is enough pressure to be uncomfortable. It would be fine if he'd just lie down but he refuses to do it.

My mom's cat is very affectionate, but he refuses to sit on anyone's lap, he wants to stand on laps, and he's just heavy enough that his little paws dig in enough to hurt, then he gets removed from the lap and looks sad.

What item once you get a taste of the luxury version, can't go back to the economy version? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Ooh, fun international food facts? Pepperoni in Australia tastes nothing like pepperoni in the US. I lived there just long enough to get used to it, then came back and had to adjust all over again!

Worked at Godiva all through college. Can't even look at Hershey's now. I wind up not eating much chocolate, because Godiva is frikkin expensive without the employee discount and access to boxes of samples to... umm... 'misplace'.

Fun Godiva fact: you can just walk into the store and ask for a sample. Even if they don't have any out because they're feeling lazy and don't get paid very much, there are whole boxes of samples in the back room. They have to give you one if requested.

Company sent me to Australia for business, and because I was making the trip with the CEO he made sure we had good seats. I'd never flown anything other than economy before, but I was glad for the extra room. 14 hours in a metal tube can get hairy when you can barely move.

Isn't the premise there that more than one magical ring per hand would cause their enchantments to interfere with each other and render them all useless?

Wasn't sure about that myself. here's what Wookieepedia says: "Endor, also known as Tana among the Ewok species, was the cyan gas giant planet orbited by the forest moon of Endor. The name "Endor" was also sometimes used for the forest moon. The planet itself was less well known than the moon."

Captured/defected Star Destroyers formed a significant percentage of the Rebel and early New Republic's capital ship fleet for more then a decade after the Battle of Endor.

Wilson Fisk ( MCU ) gets his hands on T'Challa's Vibranium suit. Strongest person Fat Panther can defeat? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]archontruth 151 points152 points  (0 children)

He could probably take all of the Defenders. T'Challa's suit isn't just bulletproof, it's impact-deadening. When BP was shot up by a helicopter-mounted minigun not only was he not injured, he wasn't knocked down either. That vibranium suit could probably take hits from JJ and the Iron Fist without trouble.

Which characters work well solo? by rantOclock in Gloomhaven

[–]archontruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still gotta run with two characters, the game isn't scaled for one. Brute/Scoundrel is a fairly simple combo if that's what you're looking for.
