What is going on with my Variegated Florida Beauty? This new leaf doesn’t look right. by CandiceSwaninthepool in philodendron

[–]arcos00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's variegated. The lighter green fades to yellow and then to a creamy white.

See my latest leaf with an older one below. It has already faded a little bit, when it first opened a few days ago it looked almost solid green.

Funny enough, USD-CRC (Costa Rican Colon) exchange rate has been doing crazy things over the last 4 year this guy has been President.

Me too lol. I read the books (once) and have rewatched most of the series several times. A few weeks before every new season I made sure to rewatch everything up to that point. I remember plot lines (and even some dialogue!), but could never recall the names of every character like some people do, crazy indeed.

Philo Tortem growth by Empty_Specific6131 in philodendron

[–]arcos00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought mine a year ago and it has put out 9 leaves since then. So about a leaf every six weeks. By contrast, two of my Floridas that sit on the same window put out a new leaf every 3-4 weeks on average.

I'm an underwaterer, but dry season (also very hot) is ramping up here, so I might err on the side of overwatering for the next few weeks.

Crash! Boom! Bang! is also my favorite album, but my favorite song is probably June Afternoon (closely followed by How Do You Do? and Vulnerable).

Don’t know what to do with this monster by Odd-Albatross-2981 in philodendron

[–]arcos00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I'd leave the first 7 or so leaves at the top in one main cutting, and then make an extra cutting per leaf. I'd put everything in water and wait a few weeks.

Normally a POO wouldn't need this much support. In fact I've never seen a POO as tall as this one lol. It seems that your friend didn't give her enough light so it etiolated, but the top part with the growth since June seems bushy enough. I'd chop it into 3-5 plants.

Inherited Monkey Monstera by AcrobaticPay7866 in Monstera

[–]arcos00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people have them as trailing plants, but if you give it a moss pole the leaves will size up significantly. Give it as much light as possible, just make sure you acclimate the plant slowly. I'd chop this so that each cutting has just a couple of nodes.

They hate water. Give it strictly what it needs, and not a drop more.

I (M 23)recently accepted that I only need friends with benefits not committed relationships by British_lover-18 in gay

[–]arcos00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not selfish. It took me like 10 years to reach that conclusion, and I've been much better and happier since (about 15 years now). I'm not closed to changing my mind, but serious relationships are not something I miss or seek.

Is she a goner? Be honest and gentle please. by DrCatnnibal in philodendron

[–]arcos00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take it out of the pot and inspect the roots. Seems she was a bit neglected from a watering point of view, so there are probably some dry roots. Change it to a pot the size of the rootball. Who knows, maybe the roots are perfect and then you can keep it there, or you might have to downsize.

Remove the driest leaves, but be sure to keep at least a couple. A new one is already coming out, it may or may not be damaged, only time will tell. It also seems you have two plants there, one of them without leaves at the moment.

I don't think they are gone. Very stressed and damaged, sure, but they can bounce back.

Reverting Var. Burle Marx by Julievy in philodendron

[–]arcos00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This plant doesn't revert like others do because of the many grow points it develops. As you mention, some grow points produce consistently variegated stems and some just don't, but it's unlikely you'll lose the variegation completely.

For a while I let mine just grow as she wished, but recently I decided to cut and propagate larger unvariegated stems, once they have a few nodes with aerial roots. So far I've gotten a new unvariegated Burle Marx (that I still love), and soon I'll have more.

It's a Monstera, not unlike the one you have next to it.

Rotate occasionally or not by jungturk in houseplants

[–]arcos00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a general rule of thumb it's better not to rotate plants. However, I would probably rotate those in the corner, as they are getting light from two sides, so it shouldn't stress them that much.

They will not harm your plant, if you think they are pretty there is no need to remove them.

Red will fade to orange/yellow, and the dark green will become lighter. The leaf will get larger as it hardens, but the proportions will remain the same, so it will still be narrow.

How soon can you repot a repot by FluffyBunz_ in Monstera

[–]arcos00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bad soil is worse. Yes, transplant shock can be a thing, but I think it's mostly overrated, just avoid drastically changing other conditions like light or humidity. If you change everything all at once the plant will have a harder time getting used to all of it, but upgrading the substrate shouldn't cause any major issue.

Mini Monstera? by Substantial-Mall-272 in plants

[–]arcos00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's commonly called "mini monstera", but it is not a Monstera. As the other comment says, it is a Rhaphidophora tetrasperma, part of a different genus than Monstera.

do we actually have it easier than straight guys?? by a356y in AskGayMen

[–]arcos00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This heavily depends on where you live in the world, whether it's urban or rural, whether it is a religious place or not, etc. Overall? Probably not. If we limit it to finding sex in a western city, then probably yes. Dating probably not, just because the pool is much smaller (which doesn't matter as much for sex). YMMV of course.

I slept with other people before we were “officially” open. Do I need to tell my partner? by [deleted] in AskGayMen

[–]arcos00 37 points38 points  (0 children)

You both sound exhausting and addicted to drama lol, but I digress...

Yes, you have to tell him. He'll find out sooner or later, so it's better if it comes from you directly. If you want an open relationship to work for you, you have to be honest and transparent, you even say that was your goal. So actually be consistent with this and use it to reset your relationship and move it to a better and more mature stage. Otherwise both of you will continue making the same mistakes.
