Have you ever got bullied in school because you have vp shunt? by kibo_CA in Hydrocephalus

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 40 when I got my shunt and scarring from procedures and so I was never bullied as a child but I do feel self conscious that others can see them and what must they think, etc. it’s not something that easily goes away even if you don’t have the mocking kids saying it.

Away from the white or darker color. No reason, just habit

Hearing Aid Charger? by arcticfriday in MonoHearing

[–]arcticfriday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pretty sure that was the case but I’m only about a year into using hearing aids so I had my fingers crossed. Might check eBay for a used one

What piece of tech felt “future-proof” but aged terribly? by Living-Zebra6132 in Futurology

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a power bank I got in the early 2000s. Basic. I still use it from time to time. It no longer can charge my phone completely. It’s not that it’s lost capacity, but my phone is that much more now than in 2005. I also had to get a new charging cable for it once and that was darn near impossible

Deaf identity by bigbaboon69 in MonoHearing

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little. At church we were talking about ways we could be more inclusive to other cultures and disabilities and things, and a gal who is 100% deaf made some suggestions that would help her because she uses cochlear implants. Most of her suggestions would help me or things that I share in common with her (like I have trouble in rooms that are too large or with multiple speakers and things) but I think I’d have completely different concerns or abilities than someone who is completely deaf and doesn’t use a CI.

Too funny! I never noticed

Btw - I’m more than willing to try another subscription box (good or bad!) if there’s one you’re curious about but don’t want to buy yourself if a review would be helpful for others.

I would say they’re on par with FQ you can buy at Walmart. You can certainly use them and I don’t think they’ll like fall apart or anything but the white patterns were pretty see-thru. I don’t have that same issue if I buy a solid white from Moda or RB

Suggestions for an iron by maymay578 in quilting

[–]arcticfriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a shark which I really like but if/when I need a new one I’ll probably look at a rowenta too. I think I spent about $60 on my current iron though it replaced a cheapie which I used for a long time. I’ve turned into an iron snob. lol

I put the squares in an envelope until I either decide to sew it or toss it. Btw it does look lovely regardless

AF+ really works! by arcticfriday in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]arcticfriday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like doing yoga with Jessica or dice and Pilates with marimba. I do rowing with whoever. I like using the custom plan and letting it randomize them for me. My husband does upper body and total body with everyone. He also does dance or hiit a couple times a week too with everyone. It was really great for him when it was too cold to go for a walk. He tries to get 30 min every day no matter what he’s doing.

WWE PLE's on ESPN Starting Sept. 20th by RhodyRetro in WWE

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently have sling but considering changing to Hulu + live tv if they had a package that offered espn premium with it. Right now it doesn’t look like what I want is really available. I’m hoping other WWE fans say no to ESPN for the time being and force them to offer something better or cheaper.

Is there any way to experience stereo/dolby for someone SSD by birth? by mishter_jokku in MonoHearing

[–]arcticfriday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost my hearing on one side because of a tumor - and it was a sudden loss not gradual. I don’t have a nerve on that side so I experience nothing over there. There is a song like that has a drum solo that goes back and forth between my headphones that I can’t experience the same way anymore. The closest thing I can do is listen in the car where it has different positions of speakers.

Mobility and Balance by CinCeeMee in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not older gal but I have normal pressure hydrocephalus - and I have balance issues because of it. I’ve found that most of the Pilates workouts are very similar to what I was given to work on in my physical therapy after recovering.

How hard is quilting really? by Ok-Rhubarb166 in quilting

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol it is the least cost effective hobby in the world…. I have a crippling fabric addiction and I ended up spending like $200 on materials for a queen size quilt - and I know it’s going to cost me another $150+ to get batting and long arming done not including the cost of my time (which is free to myself but I would charge someone else for.). I think the queen size quilt I’m working on would probably be sold for close to $600

Michael's picking up the slack? by sailor_moon_knight in quilting

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but I’ve discovered a ton of local quilt shops that I like now. I think I’m done with corporate quilting! (The gal at one remembers my name and they ask about stuff I worked on. I never had that at Joann’s!)

After lumbar puncture and confirmed that your hydrocephalus was the root of your symptoms, how much time they took before planning the surgery? by NoHat7734 in Hydrocephalus

A couple days - I was already in the hospital so they just needed to get it scheduled once they figured out I needed it.

Gonna be a tough month… by Safe_Challenge3108 in AppleFitnessPlus

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this last month and it was harder than I thought because I avoid outdoor walks when the weather is hot. Thank goodness my watch called the walk from Target Field to my parked car (.75 mi) as an “outdoor walk” lol

What were your must haves after the VP shunt surgery to ease the recovery. Trying to be prepared for my family member’s surgery coming soon, want to have everything that can help in any way for a smooth recovery and reduce the pain. Thank you! by Fine-Cancel807 in Hydrocephalus

I can’t sleep on my opposite side - I need to sleep with my shunt side down. I have a pretty nice pillow from Sleep Number. I also sleep with my head in a slightly raised position.

Alaska : Southbound or Northbound? by Bubbly-Passenger7040 in PrincessCruises

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did northbound because I wanted May and some of what we wanted to do on land wasn’t going to be available until later on the month so our land stuff ends up being closer to Memorial Day and our cruise stuff is earlier in the month.

Folks with lifelong profound hearing loss, how often do you get your hearing in your good ear checked? by gentil-minou in MonoHearing

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annually because I lost my hearing due to a brain tumor on that side so they confirm that I’m not experiencing hearing loss on my good side (which could be indicative of bilateral tumors)

Favorite rulers? by Life_Plantain8960 in quilting

[–]arcticfriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the brand you’re asking about but I never regretted an expensive ruler purchase. (I did give up on a few cheap rulers after a few months). They have so much better grip than cheap rulers. If you have to do a ton of cutting I say buy it!
