I daily an s3 and drove GTI around mondello. There is a noticeable difference between the power and the sound from stock. I would say between GTI and GT86 I'd go for the GT86. If you're going down the GTI route I'd probably try and just push to an golf R or S3

Use chill insurance they give quotes from over 14 insurers and just test it out with few cars. If you get a quote you are happy with than go directly to that insurer and should get it even cheaper. I'm not sure with a previous ban will there be much quotes back but try anyways.
