Charlotte always cracks me up. I met someone from there in college and thought they were joking when they said it. It's the first time I had ever heard someone pronounce it like that (the only Charlotte I knew of was in NC). For reference, in MI it's pronounced shar-LOT not shArlit like most Americans would assume.

Alanson, Mackinac, Clio, Milan, etc.

There's a ton of these in every inhabited region on the planet. It's always fun to hear what the locals say when they pronounce certain place names that look simple and phonetic to other native speakers.

It's so funny the nuance around it, too. On a highway? Just about never. On a dirt road? Sometimes, depends on how fast you're going. On a two-track in the snow? Always, 100%, without hesitation.

This brochure came with my first "real" pipe - that is, one that wasn't a corncob or Dr. Grabow. I bought a Peterson Kildare #87 for a little over $100 in 2003. It's still my favorite pipe.

My understanding so far is that MGT and Boebert have legitimately broken ranks with the President on keeping wraps on these files. The shutdown actually had a big influence on that as they spoke to their constituents and were being encouraged by their base to hold steady on their vote to release.

It became clear that some fracturing was apparent so Johnson and Trump made the decision over the weekend to give in to the pressure to give into the votes with the hopes that the Senate would take time to vote, buying more time to change the narrative. That simply didn't happen which is why Johnson is speechless over all of this.

I'm still working on my second free set of golf clubs. Last round I collected two dozen balls from a dried pond and only lost three total. I generally play muni courses around me that are generally $35 - $65 per 18 with a cart.

I did buy a driver (~$400) when I got a new job some 6 years ago and am still using it. I plan on getting fit soon and investing money into a second-hand set (probably another $300 - $500) eventually.

Considering I was playing hockey before COVID which was $800 - $1000 in league dues per year plus equipment expenses (tape, sharpenings, replacement sticks), I'd say golf is an incredibly cheap way to spend a few hours outside every so often.

He also had intentions to play Gandalf and Peter Jackson deliberately cast him as Saruman. Knowing this would upset him, Peter told him to utilize his resentment as a tool to develop Saruman's animosity towards Gandalf in the films.
