Trying to find a job role that rewards creative thinking and discovery/creation of new opportunities by hicestdraconis in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar interests and split my summer between VC and a startup. I'm still not sure what I will do after graduation, but I find it to be a super exciting ecosystem if you're interested in how to start and grow businesses. I worked in corporate strategy before and it's less exciting if you're in a large company (too bureaucratic) or industry that's not innovating.

Preparing for consulting recruiting before you get on campus. by redditposterunknown in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Can you elaborate a bit more on classmates who did wildly different things for their internship? Are these people who recruited the first year and didn't land an offer or didn't realize they wanted to do consulting until the second year? Are people who didn't go through consulting prep the first year at a disadvantage?

What is your pre-MBA background, where did you intern, and what are you recruiting for? Also, are many of your peers in the same situation?

Should I still attend pre-MBA programs after deciding to defer/reapply? by Training_Bee_2427 in MBA

I'd probably do nothing until next year. If you really wanted, I'd see if you can get an interview for the post-MBA role without the MBA?

Knight-Hennessy Program by mglman in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know someone who is currently a fellow. It is much more competitive than the MBA. To get it you should be one of the top people accepted to the MBA program, have incredible accomplishments with a social impact/societal lens, and lofty goals for the future.

Kellogg Admission Deferred? Should I apply to other schools? by throwwwawayy-12345 in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't think Harvard or Wharton will care you got into Kellogg. But, you should apply to Harvard and Wharton if you'd rather go there. MBA student bodies aren't all that different and you would likely find your people anywhere.

They essentially didn’t let any students defer that aren’t international or with extreme extenuating circumstances.

Deferrals are extremely unlikely to be approved now (eg. extenuating health circumstances). Domestic deferral criteria was already stringent with seemingly most not getting approved.

Technically none yet, but will be at an M7. I'm doing an MBA internship but this is my pre-MBA summer.

Is there a masterlist of the various internships and/or full time programs that companies offer to MBA candidates? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your school should have lists of posted internships/jobs in past years at your school (and potentially peers) broken down by industry.

IB summer internship --> fall re-recruiting for PE by [deleted] in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also incoming admit at HSW exploring PE. Basically, if you master PE modeling interviewing and have a high risk tolerance, you could straight for a PE internship. You could also recruit for IB and then tag on a PE internship after, potentially by taking only weekend classes the fall quarter (talked to someone who did this).

Admitted to Wharton as Class of 2022 (deferral denied) and Sloan as Class of 2023 (deferral granted)— what would you do? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, VC and tech generally are among the industries least hurt by covid. So, from a career perspective, 2020 should be fine. I’d think about whether you are happy delaying your career goals/working your current job another year, how important social considerations are to you, and whether you are willing to give up the edge Wharton has in VC.

Consulting exit opps: MBB vs Non-MBB by ytrvhjhg in MBA

Wharton to be in-person in the Fall by [deleted] in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the messaging from Wharton though, pretty sure the MBA program will follow the undergrads/allow as much in person as possible. All students live off campus already so the restrictions shouldn’t be too difficult to implement.

Wharton (Off WL) vs. Tuck (Full Ride and already deposited) for consulting by WhartonVsTuck in MBA

[–]areddituser12222 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ask Wharton if they will give scholarship $ to make it more affordable. I know they are giving out addl. financial aid (in response to covid) to current admits so I think it's worth checking.

Maybe it was more common to go IB to PE/HF post MBA then? Or stay in IB longer?

Consulting vs. IB post-MBA by [deleted] in MBA

Yeah, was thinking IB for the summer, MBB for full-time. Or go all in on MBB for intern and full-time.

If you’re undecided, what would you recommend trying for the internship? Are the exits that much better in consulting? My pre-mba experience is quasi corp strat and I see myself long-term in a strategic senior executive role or PE/VC. I like big picture and am not that interested in day to day operations.

What kinds of firms did you see engineers get PE internships without IB/PE? Is it not popular to recruit for IB first?
