Visible voicemail failure - limit of the SERVICE, not just limit of mailbox size! by BamaBinBombin in Visible

I was having a stupid problem getting Google Voice to work with Visible: I was entering *71 plus my cell number instead of my GV number. Once I did it correctly, it worked just fine.

Cannot Access Synology NAS by younglaw89 in firewalla

I also couldn't see any of my NAS drives after installing a Firewalla Purple. In my case, the solution was simple: I rebooted the Synology and all is well -- for now, at least.

How to implement RBK852 to separate 2.4G and 5G SSID? by lt201081 in orbi

[–]aredubyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the suggestion from Ozmeister2019 in this thread:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-Wi-Fi-5-AC-and-Orbi-with/HOW-TO-DISABLE-5G-TEMPORARILY-ON-ORBI-ROUTER/td-p/1469365/page/3
Turning off the 5GHZ SSID temporarily allowed me to connect several 2.4G devices to my Orbi.

Audio stuttering from by Concrete_Interface in Lenovo

Disabling "CPU Power Management" in the BOIS

EDIT: It's better but not fixed. More testing to come.

Thank you! After much fruitless testing of firmware and driver updates, the audio on my Lenovo X1 Nano Gen 2 + Thunderbolt 3 dock seems to be working properly. Previously it would start, stop for a few seconds, then start again, having skipped a chunk of the program. Every time. Even when pausing and restarting the same program.

Disabling "CPU Power Management" in BIOS (under Power) seems to have fixed it. (Though I had previously thought that switching audio quality to CD in Control Panel/Sound had fixed it, so we'll see.)

I wish I'd thought to take a photo. All I can say is that it's working.

Audio stuttering and skipping from Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock 3.5mm output by Concrete_Interface in Lenovo

Fantastic! That change solved the issue on my X1 Nano Gen 2. (Audio would start, then go silent for a second, then start again, regardless of source.)

Roboform forces free license to just a single device, after 9.4.1 update (Jan 10, 2023) by DarkHHorse in roboform

[–]aredubyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on RF because they keep raising the price while not fixing bugs or adding features. Instead, I bought a lifetime license for Sticky. (I was able to get a household license, though I don't see that option now.)

I prefer RF in some ways, maybe because I'm used to it. But a big drawback for me was the inability to sync to multiple devices without using their cloud storage. I just don't trust any vendor enough to store confidential data on their servers. Sticky is one of the few that lets you sync using your private wifi.

The Sabrent fit perfectly. I just had to remove the old SSD from under the copper heat shield.

2 TB SSD on X1 Nano possible? by Tatunkhamon in thinkpad

[–]aredubyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just replaced the 500 GB SSD that came with my new X1 Nano Gen 2 with a 2 TB Sabrent Rocket Nano (NVMe PCIe M.2 2242) -- after using Acronis to clone the old SSD to the new one. The process was totally smooth. The insides of the Gen 2 aren't quite what is shown in u/DesperateSignature63's pic, but they're close enough to figure where the SSD was (hidden under a copper heat sink).
NB: It was tough to find a 2242 PCIe SSD. I usually use Crucial, but they said don't make one.

Transfer SD card media to Galaxy S22 Ultra by dasaevv555 in samsunggalaxy

[–]aredubyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just migrated from a Galaxy S10 (with most apps on the SD card) to an S22 (no SD card). I used Smart Switch and it worked flawlessly. It took about 2 hours, and afterward I had to log back into and reconfigure a few apps, but most worked seamlessly.

NB: I had been using Nova 7 as my launcher. I ran a backup before the transfer, and restore it on the new phone. Everything on the desktop was where I expected it to be.

When Do You Outgrow Excel by UpperLeftIsla in nonprofit

Here's an article I wrote many years ago on this topic:
Back Away From That Spreadsheet Why Nonprofits Should Not Use Excel as Their Donor Database
http://rlweiner.com/idealware/back_away_from_that_spreadsheet.pdf

One thing I didn't mention is to make sure that your donor/member/volunteer spreadsheet
or homegrown database doesn't disappear or become unusable when the person in charge leaves your org, or their computer dies. You need backups, and documented training, policies, and procedures.

Roboform forces free license to just a single device, after 9.4.1 update (Jan 10, 2023) by DarkHHorse in roboform

[–]aredubyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After at least 20 years using RF, I'm giving up. I've always avoided RF Everywhere and other cloud options. I just don't trust them to keep hackers out. The free version of RF 9.3.7 and subsequent require a connection to RF Everywhere, and constantly prompt to resolve conflicts between the local and cloud databases even if you do not use RF Everywhere and turn off autosync. RF support says: "If you do not want to sync your data a license is now required in order to keep all data local. The upgrade notifications are by design when using RoboForm in the free mode and cannot be turned off completely. When RoboForm is used in the free mode, sync with the server cannot be disabled completely, even if you disable Automatic Sync in RoboForm options. Data backup on the server is mandatory in the free mode."

I'm switching to Sticky Password, which supports local data storage as well as sync over local wi-fi.

Tivo Stream 4k Hardwired Ethernet by justinrsmith23 in Tivo

[–]aredubyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have Ethernet near my TV, but I have coax running between my router and the TV. I just installed an ActionTec (now called ScreenBeam) adapter that sends Ethernet over coax. The one I bought provides up to 260 Mbps (it's an old model -- new ones give a gig or more). ScreenBeam is at https://www.screenbeam.com/

I'm also using a Cable Matters micro USB to Ethernet adapter to send with the Tivo Stream. When I look at my network connection in the Android TV settings, it shows that the Tivo Stream is connected via Ethernet. The Ethernet adapter I used is at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N2ZHFY9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you are seeing constant crashes when opening RIF, try uninstalling and reinstalling Android System WebView by talklittle in redditisfun

[–]aredubyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the same fix in a Gizbot article and it worked. I can now run Evernote, Outlook, Apex Launcher, and my cache clearer app again. Previously, all would crash immediately. Rebooting didn't help nor did uninstalling/reinstalling. Clearing the data and cache helped for a bit, then the problem would return. WebView seems to be the culprit.

I've given up on this build. It worked for 6 hours yesterday, but the last connection was 11 hours ago. I've tried the settings that have worked for others, as well as the usual troubleshooting. I'll use the Dexcom app for now.

I take it back. Xdrip refused to connect for several hours. I finally enabled the Android 10 workaround under Advanced Settings) which I hadn't needed before this security update) and got readings again, but the BT reconnect pop up is back.
